isbister 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2008 Scott Thorton for the LA Kings would be a good deadline pick up for us. I don't think it would take too much to get him but then again I could be wrong. Scott skates decent for a big guy and could help our playoff roster with his grit. Thoughts? Wings_Dynasty 267 Report post Posted February 12, 2008 (edited) Wouldn't give up anything but a low prospect or a pick for him. But, he is a tough guy and doesn't back down. He can fight and he is a grinder. Would be a good pick up if cheap, but we can do better I think. Would only replace Downey or Drake and we need a scorer. And replacing Downey would ruffle a lot of feathers in FanLand after the Parros fight. Edited February 12, 2008 by Wings_Dynasty

Where would he fit in? We'd need to take a scorer of the line in order to get him in there. He'd get us nowhere.
Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted February 12, 2008 Scott Thornton is a dinosaur. There are plenty of other guys that can fill that role in a better way.
Grittzkey 1 Report post Posted February 12, 2008 I think we will be looking Defence if we do make a trade.
Lou_Siffer 1 Report post Posted February 12, 2008 Not a bad idea at all....I had forgotten about Thornton. Better than Drake or Kopecky (or McCarty) at least, and since we know they wouldnt play Downey in the playoffs it would definitely give them a good bit of toughness that can play. Also would cost next to nothing, and is a UFA after the year. For the 4th line, i dont see why not.

I'd love to have Thornton here. He's better than some of the guys we have now.

I can't believe I forgot about that, because I've called Drake out on numerous occasions this season as being a dinosaur. I used to be a Thornton fan, but he hasn't done much lately. Then again, when you consider the current guys on the 4th line the Wings have, I guess he would be an upgrade.
Lou_Siffer 1 Report post Posted February 12, 2008 Scott Thornton is a dinosaur. There are plenty of other guys that can fill that role in a better way. He wouldnt be my first choice Kp, as i'd rather a Chris Gratton obviously, but look at in the sense that he's better as well as alot tougher than Drake and Kopecky. Plus, it would give us 2 guys whove beaten George Parros this year
isbister 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2008 He would be an upgrade for Drake for sure, plus he can fight. I don't think we need 4 scoring lines to win the cup, we gotta get bigger and have more protection. I love Downey and respect the hell outta him for the Parros fight, but lets be honest he isn't going to get any playoff time unless injuries occur. Kings are going to make deals, this is who we need imo.

Gratton is such a logical option, because he can score points, and that seems to be the selling point with Wings management. Thornton wouldn't be a terrible choice, as if Holland actually got him, I wouldn't be against the move. I'd just rather have someone like Gratton first. Grittzkey 1 Report post Posted February 12, 2008 Id rather have a youthful guy tbh. Upshall would be naise.
Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted February 12, 2008 (edited) The Flyers would be crazy to get rid of Upshall. The guy has loads of offensive potential, is a great checker, can kill penalties (hear that Holland??!!), fights when he has to, and he's becoming one of the bigger trash talkers in the game. He's like Sean Avery, except not quite as brass. Edited February 12, 2008 by Kp-Wings
Guest Crymson Report post Posted February 12, 2008 So Dallas Drake isn't a dinosaur? Yes, but he's a dinosaur with leadership capability, and to boot he's a dinosaur whom we don't need to give anyone up for. We already have him. Thornton? He's not a leader and we'd need to trade something to get him.
