moocat 1 Report post Posted February 13, 2008 I wish that we had a defenseman with a little bit of a mean streak. Not a Goon, but someone who would get under the other teams skin, and drive them crazy. Barret Jackman anyone?
GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted February 13, 2008 Our defense is great. We're just in a slump. You can't expect every player to give 100% every night. Lidstrom is the best defenseman in the NHL. Rafalski is a great defenseman and great match for Lidstrom (sometimes a bit inconsistent though) Kronwall has a lot of potential, and he's also a great 2nd line d-man right now. Lilja is really inconsitent. One game he plays incredible, the next game he gives the puck up and costs us a couple goals. He's not the kind of guy I want to have to depend on come playoff time. Chelios is getting old, but he's still a good player. Keep his shifts short and he'll play well enough to help us in the playoffs. Lebda has a lot of potential, and if he plays alongside Chelios, the two of them will be able to play strong defense against the other teams 3rd and 4th lines. Meech has a lot of potential, but I can't see him as a guy who we can depend on in the playoffs just yet. What could Lilja possibly do in the playoffs that might cost us a game? I can't think of anything.
CrossCheck24 2 Report post Posted February 13, 2008 What about Jonathan Erickson from GR? He is 6'5 220 and has a 101 mph slapper in the AHL ASG. 67-5-24-29 with 102 pims this season. He has There are 20 games left or so, get him some time to adjust? Ive never seen him play but he looks promising. Any thoughts, possibly from someone who has seen him play? RainingBlood 8 Report post Posted February 13, 2008 (edited) Ericsson will be on the roster next year if Lebda is traded. Which I hope not because Lebda is still young and has amazing speed for a d man. Personally Ericsson should have gotten a roster spot this year, couldnt do any worse than Lilja has been the past week Edited February 13, 2008 by RainingBlood

RainingBlood 8 Report post Posted February 14, 2008 Be sure to throw Rafalski under that bus too, cause he's been equally as sucky as Lilly. Im not gonna put Rafalski in the same sentence as Lilja. Rafalski has made some mistakes but when Lilja skates his feet seem to be stuck in concrete. For the past few seasons I really supported Lilja but enough is enough. Dominator2005 558 Report post Posted February 14, 2008 I used to hold so much hope for Lebda, but I've really lost it this season. I feel he's one of the most expendable players on the team and we'd be able to fetch something decent in return with some players/picks thrown into the mix. Move Lebda and a player/pick for a solid top 4 defenseman. Move Hudler, prospect and a pick for Hossa. Move another pick/prospect for defensive depth. You are right about Lebda... He have total of 12 points... and Vokoun have total of 6 points so far this season I know he is not offensive DEF but he's not defensive DEF either... trade him for Erskine... Uncle Danny 155 Report post Posted February 14, 2008 Why not?!?!? Because the Blues making a trade with us is about as likely as Dubya serving another term.
Dominator2005 558 Report post Posted February 14, 2008 Because the Blues making a trade with us is about as likely as Dubya serving another term. Real question is: Is Holland in research of this type of Def? or he would like to add someone like Woolley? Red Wings need BIG stay at home DEF who is able to drop the gloves... (someone like Erskine)...
isbister 0 Report post Posted February 14, 2008 Never thought I'd say this but I think we need to dangle Lebs out there and see who's interested. He does some good things on the ice, but again I don't think he's physical enough to answer some of our D-men issues. Yes I know were in 1rst place in the league by a long shot, but most of us fans know what it takes to win a cup. I think we need a physical D-man that can put the smack down on some fowards and plays with a bit of a mean streak. Saying that, I think its about time we address our size issue up front. I don't think we need 4 scoring lines to get to the end either. Keep in mind theres a stupid salary cap every team is up against. No more 4th lines consisting of Homer,Igor and Lucky Luc. By The Way would love B Jack!!!
SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted February 14, 2008 Sure, the Wings "want" to improve at the trade deadline, but to think there are any serious problems with the team is laughable. They are in a mini-slump right now (could extend to a big slump, but doubtful). Lidstrom was -3 last night, that tells you how bad of a game he had. Lidstrom had a bad game, does that mean he sucks now? Of course not, he had a bad game, like every other human, most guys have more bad games than he does. He and the team will move on and be better....no biggie. Will they win the cup? Who knows, but if anyone ever thought a march to the cup was going to be anywhere close to easy because of the season they have been having, they haven't been watching hockey long enough. Bush will be re-elected to a 3rd term before the Wings go out and aquire a player like Erskine... isn't going to happen.
