Steroids, the NHL, and Congress

Is anyone else pissed off that the government is now not only wasting MILLIONS of our tax dollars to find out which baseball players were taking steroids, but that now they have turned their focus to hockey?!

WHAT THE HELL IS THE POINT?!?!?!

With all of the other problems this country has, say troops overseas for one, why the hell is Congress even thinking about steroids in sports?

I would wonder what the rule is for injured players. What if you get a steroid injection to help with an injury like Zetterberg and his back problem or Hasek and his recurring hip problem? Steroids could probably help those injuries.

If steroids are prescribed by doctors and administered by them or in association with them, then they are legal. But when an athlete takes non-prescribed steroids or illegally prescribed steroids, then it is against the law. The steroids Hank is getting are in an extremely small dosage that doesn't show or really have effect other than speeding up the healing process or strengthening the surrounding muscles around the injury.

Also, regardless if the steroids or other meds are prescribed or not, if the are illegal a player can't take them.

I agree Congress has more pressing matters to deal with, but should athletes really be allowed to behave as though the laws don't apply to them? I mean, when you're making more money than most people will ever see or dream of in a lifetime, it's easier to see yourself as above the law than, say, if you were a normal person.

No, cheating should not be allowed in major league sports. It's crazy that the leagues don't enforce these rules the way they're enforced when normal citizens are involved. If you can't win through hard work and conventional training, you don't deserve to win. But it's really not Congress' place to punish these people. It's too bad no one else is willing to, though.

I'm kind of confused over what jurisdiction Congress has in this matter, and I'm a poly sci student. I never understood why and how Congress could get involved in pro sports. Other than the fact taht it's no-risk and high profile.

Plain and simple, they are the government. They can do whatever they want, whenever they want, however they want and pay no consequences.

And if you don't think so, I'd suggest reading the 'Patriot Act'.

more than likely he's getting anti inflammatory drugs to deal with that. His injury will bother him for the rest of his career. There will be times that he misses a game or two with back spasms or stiffness from now on until he retires.

Here is how they are wasting money.

Electricity used during the hearings, beverages, lunches, hotels, flights, ect. None of that would have to be paid for if they weren't wasting time talking about steroids in sports.

Furthermore, they are wasting time. And as we all know, time is money.

They aren't doing their real jobs. How would your boss feel if you spent all day at work doing something that didn't have anything to do with your job?

Finally, talking to whomever about steroids in sports pushes off other things they should be talking about to a later time. And again, time is money. We are paying them to talk about sports. I don't know about you guys, but my friends and I talk about that s*** at the bar all the time. Sounds more to me like they are pursuing personal interests than doing their jobs.

But hey, what do I know? I'm just an average joe.
