I dont know why people seem to think Hossa is going to get 8M. When Sidney Crosby is only making 8.5 or whatever, Hossa doesnt touch 8M, especially on a longterm contract, and especially when you consider none of Iggy, Heatley, Spezza, or Lecavalier are making 8M. I love Hossa, but hes a top 20 forward, not top 10. I say if he truly does want to go to a contender, then he would accept 7M, probably over 5 years or so.

That being said, you have to keep in mind that Zetterbergs contract wont kick in until after next season. The Cap is projected to be about 54M next season, and itll likely go up another 2M after that. So youre looking at nearly 56M by the time Zetterbergs contract kicks in. If Detroit is smart and signs guys like Franzen, Flip, Ericsson, Cleary and Quincey to 2-4 year contracts right now, like they did with the likes of Zetterberg and Lebda, theyd be ahead of the game in 09/10 when wed have Hossa, Lidstrom, Hank, Datsyuk, and Raffi all on the books for big numbers..

Atlanta would have to pay him the 8 to stay. But a Detroit (where the chance for success is higher and there is already talent that he has to play with) would probably only have to pay him 5.

Just about every trade mentioned in this thread won't happen, so there's no difference.

Sad but true.

I think the odds of us signing one of the truly *big* names on the market are extremely slim.

"Alright, Kenny. Fork over Filppula, Samuelsson, Kindl and a first-round pick and you can have Marian."

"Sure thing, Don!"

Just read this on ESPN:

"Detroit GM Ken Holland told ESPN.com Tuesday the team is expected to offer erstwhile Grind Line member Darren McCarty a contract before Tuesday, the deadline for players to sign with teams and be eligible to play in the playoffs."

and the link: http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/columns/stor...&id=3254008

Uhhh duh, I have been saying this for about a month....

He will get the deal with McCarty done as soon as he has moved a player that cannot be sent down. Either that or put Cleary on the IR.

Plus when making deals you want to make people think your cupboard is bear.

I see alot of crazy unbelievable trades on this board, and there are people thinking we will have a completely new roster.

Hossa is not coming to Detroit folks, sorry but it is not happening. Plus it makes no sense anyways, it would take at least 6.75 million to resign him and we don't have that!

Stuart may resign in LA before the deadline, which could submarine that....

Sydor would be the most likely backup plan on that front.

Prospal is from my sources a done deal.... except the fact that Detroit won't finalize it until they are sure Sundin is out of the picture. The Sundin deal however is being held up by Sundin who is looking for the new contract before the deal goes through. Holland is on the phone with his agent.

Holland is going to pull the trigger right after he knows the MRI results on Lidstorm. He is going to get a bigger deal going if its worse then first thought.

If its serrious, Hossa will come into focus.

Anyways McCarty is definately back.

Mayers is garbage. I rather the redwings trade for a bag of popcorn and some easter peeps than Mayers

What's wrong with Mayers? Can you elaborate?

He potted 15 goals 2 years ago. Probably won't get that this year but he skates well, will probably set a new career high for points and his +/- has improved 3 years straight.

Oh, and he's had 30 fighting majors the past 3 years.

What's not to like other than he roughs up the Wings skilled players whenever we play him?

Here's some of the guys he's fought the past 3 years. He's exactly the kind of 3rd/4th liner that the Wings don't have yet teams like Anaheim do. The kind that skate well and can play the game and provide a nice middleweight prescence in the lineup

Dance Partners

Carcillo

Tollefson

Boll

Lappy

Scott Thornton

Moen

Morrow

McCarty

Winchester

Tootoo

Clowe

Shanahan

Henry

Beauchemin

Erskine

Davison

Lapointe

Not too shabby

With all the speculation going on the Wings have been linked to most of the big guns out there, yet our

front desk has stated that they won't give up the future in dealing for a rental. Sundin has supposedly

said he would waive his ntc if the Wings came knocking, yet would he sign a long term contract with the

Wings? He has just turned 37 and I would think that the Leafs would want at least Fil or Huds plus some

to get him. Both of them are just 24 with a long NHL future ahead of them. Will we be willing to lose any

of them to get him? Hossa is 29 and would be a better choice if signed to a 2-3 year deal. But his current

$7m contract would mean us moving alot to get him, let alone the players and picks the Thrasher would

want for him. Jokinen is in the same catergory as Hossa, 29 and carry a hefty contract with the Panthers.

I just don't see the Wings even attempting to sign any of these guys in reality, we would be better to keep

our roster guys and try and get in 2nd tier players. Satan could be had at a more affordable price, his current

$4.5m contract is up at season end, so he could be had at a more reasonable price in future. Prospol is younger

and comes cheaper than Satan. I guess the Wings maybe going after him and not giving up to much.

The D is going to make for interesting viewing. Heaven forbid that Lids is out long term but maybe the Wings

are hoping he will have a rest and re-coup for a little longer than 3 weeks, this'll give Babs a good look at Meech

Quincey and Ericsson see where that at beforing making a pitch for someone before next tuesday. I believe if

any one comes in on the D then someone off the current roster will have to make way. One of the 3 rookies

being more than likely but I can't see it being Ericsson, too much going for him alround. So come next Weds I see

us having 3 additions to the roster and 2 leaving. Prospal, Jackman and McCarty(2way) with Meech and Ellis going.

These guns?

Ohh, it's the deep burn. Oh, it's so deep. Oh, I can barely lift my right arm 'cause I did so many. I don't know if you heard me counting. I did over a thousand.

Back to the topic, Hossa for Flip with Hossa signing long term, I'm all for it.

"Today is arms and back. It's boring, but it's my life"

P.S. I'm all for dealing both Filpulla and Huds for Hossa as well - if he signs on for a longer term.
