I hate Eklund so much, he takes anything he hears and blows it all way out of proportion. I love how the second Ottawa is lined to Fedorov in the media its an e4 and is highly likely, when nobody else has reported more than talks. But the giant s*** the Ottawa GM took in the toilet called him up and told him the inside scoop.

"Detroit Red Wings: General manager Ken Holland is looking at every possibility of landing a big scorer because Holland always looks at every possibility. He's made overtures for most of the premium players, but Holland is saying he also doesn't want to give up his future for a rental player. He believes he has enough depth to be a quality team for a few years if he doesn't trade it away. The Red Wings will look at defensive depth, but that's a lower priority than a scorer.

That scorer's name won't be Hossa or Sundin, either. "

Saying what I've been saying. Sundin or Hossa is just not gonna happen people. We'll get a scorer and perhaps even a d-man but it'll be a scorer with maybe 10-15 goals on the season who will come cheap. I'm STILL saying we should cross our fingers for Feds. He's one of our few realistic options and he seems to playing good lately. By Tuesday, Sundin will either be a Leaf or a Duck. And Hossa will be traded to a team for the farm. Neither of em are coming here.

That is good news, because what it would take to get either of them would be too much, and neither would be a guarentee to be here next season.

Just because a guy is liked by our organization doesnt mean he holds high value around the league. Im speaking mediocre is terms of his trade value.

ok, I can give you that - he wouldn't demand much on the trade market, simply because of how unknown he is, but this kids the real deal... I can't wait to see him up here full time...

It will be a while. He was not very good in Grand Rapids, and went back to Sweden, where he has been slow to recover from his rough start to the season. I think that had he made the commitment and stayed like Ritola he would be on a good schedule still, but going to Sweden, and not producing there, may have slowed him down some.

1. In what world is something like Flip + Hudler/Sammy + Prospect/Pick for Marian Hossa too much? If it's about the $, it has been shown many times here that it is absolutely do-able, even with Hank's payday on the horizon.

2. For the 3,000,000th time, Hossa is not a rental; he would be here next season. Otherwise, Holland wouldn't even bother talking to him. I'm hoping that's not the case.

Thanks for playing!

But NONE of those "cases" take into account defered bonuses for this year that will happen if the Wings acquire Hossa and a defenseman. And also they are all ASSUMING that the cap will go up for the 2009/2010 season, and that is too far away of an assumption. There is proof of a 3-5 million dollar increase for next season, which in prior posts I have shown that with the deferred bonuses the Wings are pushing cap in that scenario if it only goes up 3. AND you CANNOT assume the cap will go up every year that is too far of a glimpse to see, it is based on the rest of this year and all of next year's league revenue. What happens if the cap doesn't go up for the 2009/2010 season like you are all assuming, I have shown that in another post as well, and the answer is that if the cap does not raise again that season Zetterberg's raise would not fit under cap. And those numbers are all assuming our PREDICITIONS of player salaries that re-sign with the team are correct and they do not get more than we are assuming. It is a risky venture to go into a world where you are pushing cap for years to come,...ask the Maple Leafs...

I think that link is already in some other thread... maybe the Hossa thread?
