Jonathan Ericsson

i saw him play down here in desmoines about a month ago and i was very impressed. he was easily our best D man that night, never really made any mistakes. i wouldnt say he was overly physical though...didnt get into a fight or anything, but he did play the body a lot. he looked pretty good on the power play too. from what ive read about his career he only recently started playing D, used to be a center i guess. oh and i heard he had a 100 mph shot at the AHL all star game :!:

kindl on the other hand made some big mistakes and seemed to be unsure of himself a lot. but i could see why everyone is high on him, looks like he just needs to smooth out some edges

He was originally a forward. Andersson thought he's make a good blueliner. He was asked to switch to D around the time he was drafted. That's where the "raw talent" tag comes from. He's still learning to play the game on defence. But he's arguably improved more than any Wings prospect over the last two years.

He's got the size, edge, shot, and mobility for the NHL. He just needs to keep learning the game, and become more consistent.

That's the low-down, as far as I know.

OK everybody calm down. Yes he is big, but from what I have been able to find on the net he is a very raw talent. Kindl and Smith are both regarded as better but they are more offensive minded defenseman. I think that Babs is giving him a look because Babs was impressed with him during training camp.

Don't expect too much from him yet. Just because he's big doesn't mean that he is ready for the NHL.

There is more to hockey than being big.

Also, I can't find anybody that lists him as more than 205. I'm not sure where the 250+ weight came from.

He's listed as 6'5 225 Lbs on all the sites I've seen, just google his name...250 is just the wishful thinking of Wing's fans ;)

So this guy is 6'5" and 225lbs? Can he skate? or handle the puck? Who is this guy and what is his story? Anyone who will threaten to keep a place on the roster? Let's hope he cracks some skulls and makes the front of the Wings net a very very unfriendly place to be! :punch:

Ericsson was a forward prior to being switched to being a defenseman, so he can handle the puck.

He hit the 100mph mark with his slapshot

He has some toughness, and did for a time play RW on the PP, lining up near the crease as does Zdeno Chara in Boston.

That fight clip against # 24 of the Blackhawks must have been prior to Martin Havlat coming to Chicago, who happens to wear # 24. He has been held in high regard for a few seasons, im glad hes finally up with the Wings.

Did you not notice he was wearing a Griffins jersey in the fight? That was against the Blackhawks farm club

That clip is of the Griffins and Wolves I believe. It's not the Blackhawks.

God, Kp! What does Lilja have to do, ******* murder someone in a fight before you start respecting his fighting prowess? It's not his fault that no one has wanted to fight him ever since he fell on top of Chris Neil. Another reason for him not fighting in a while is that the last few teams we played scratched their top enforcers for small fish like Ott, Lapperierre, etc. He didn't want to spotpick against lesser fighters, that's all. :D

Ah, right. I see.

So in the upcoming Calgary matchup, I expect Lilja and Godard to have a go at it. Unless Godard is not in the lineup, or you consider Godard another one of those "small fish" fighters. ;)

Haha, Maxim Kuznetsov....haven't thought about that name in years. How bout some retro Yan Gulobovsky (I can't recall it's spelling)?

You outdid me with that name. I forgot all about that stiff.

Godard is definitely a heavyweight, though he's been a disappointment this year. Providing Godard wants any of Lilja, I see PAIN TRAIN obliging him. Hey after the way Lilja destroyed Phaneuf, Godard will most likely be seeking revenge.

What became of old Kuznetsov? I loved that guy, but only for his name. I've never seen Ericsson play but I agree with the previous comments about Kindl - those were my exact impressions of him when I saw him play in the OHL. Presumably since then his game has improved and the standard has also risen -- logically we might imagine it'll take him a while to smooth those rough edges again.

But since this thread is about Ericsson....here's to him having a good game. The Wings are going to need him to play well.

PS Bring back KUZNETSOV

We'll get a good look at him in the next few games. Hopefully, he'll have a good NHL debut.

BTW Kindl is nowhere near being NHL ready IMO. He makes way too many mistakes from the 10 games or so I watched him in. He's got several years to go. Defensively, he has way too many lapses playing at a level where he should be solid, if not dominant. His offense is fine and you can see why they're high on that part of his game, but he's really a big question mark. He'd get shredded at the NHL level: that wouldn't be a pretty sight.

And who says Lilja's a fighter  Does he even take his gloves off?

It was the Norfolk Admirals and the Griffins.

Youre right, I went back and watched the clip again, I seen the 2 tomahawks with the C in the middle was why I thought Chicago.
