Majsheppard 203 Report post Posted February 23, 2008 He has looked really good in the last two games. I have to ask, is this going to make him less likely to be a part of a deal or more likely? I thought Quincey was the 7th dman but in GR due to the fact he can clear waivers. Now maybe Meech is supplanting him? let's see how it goes, but one thing is for sure another wrinkle in the trade deadline drama has been made. I am wondering where he was as well. This extra time sure makes him look like a viable replacement due to injury on a playoff run.

Guest Agalloch Report post Posted February 23, 2008 The whole defense has been a collective piece of s*** since Kronwall got injured. I don't know what you guys are watching, but I've seen so many odd man rushes and breakaways and excellent scoring chances during this streak because our defense has no idea what they're doing. Quincey and Meech look to have little upside and I don't see either in the Wings future plans (nor Lebda).

Guest Agalloch Report post Posted February 23, 2008 Then maybe you should watch the ******* games. Scoring and defense has both been s***. If the goalies hadn't been so great recently a moron like you would be able to see that.
Izzy24 44 Report post Posted February 23, 2008 I think the point people are making is that all things considered, the D has been pretty good. Key Point: all things considered.
Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted February 23, 2008 Meech has a couple of ok games, and now all of a sudden he's looked at as an untouchable prospect. The same works when Lilja has a few good games. Puh-lease! Meech is very tradeable. If a team actually wants him, you do not think twice about giving him. Guys like him can be found in a garbage disposel if you look hard enough. In all seriousness, the Wings have a guy named Logan Pyett in the minors, who is exactly the same type of player as Meech, but better. Since the Wings have him, as well as a bunch of other defensive prospects waiting in the minors/juniors, there is no reason why the Wings should keep Meech. He's not the second coming of Bobby Orr, so don't act like giving him up would be the end of the world. I'll admit, he has played somewhat better recently, but I still don't like Meech, and he's very replaceable. If a team wants, they can and should have him. YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted February 23, 2008 I dont know what you guys are talking about, but both Quincey and Meech will be traded and should be traded if a deal comes up. Neither brings a huge body, blinding speed, an amazing set of moves, or impressive physicality. Theyre boring pluggers at this point and our team has enough of them. With young guys like Smith, Kindl, and Ericsson progressing nicely with more to offer, Quincey and Meech are expendable.

Quincey and Meech look to have little upside and I don't see either in the Wings future plans (nor Lebda). The last two games all things considered the defense has been solid. As for Meech, I think he's making a good pitch for a chance to be on the Wings long term, and given the extra time so far he's done solid overall, but like Matt Ellis' situation, assuming the defense comes back healthy soon and he's the 7th d-man again, he's on the outside looking in like most of this early season. If that happens and most of the defensive core is the same next year, he might have to find elsewhere to play professionally. I guess from my vantage point (and I'm from Louisiana so it's probably not a good one in regards to viewing hockey players and prospects overall ), I just haven't seen enough of him yet to make a fair comparison of whether he looks ready for full NHL duty yet one way or the other. VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted February 23, 2008 short term, I agree Personally, I feel Meech and Quincey should both be on the Wings long term. THey're great players. Who cares if they're not physical? Having a team of nothing but big physical guys does nothing for you. You need guys who can play and generate offense, which Quincey and Meech certainly can do, especially once they get going in the NHL level. Ericsson is also coming up, to provide the grittiness, so why can't we just have all three and be a great, balanced team?
Mickeyisms Rule! 0 Report post Posted February 23, 2008 I love it. The last 2 games the Wings have given up exactly 1 (ONE) goal. You can't tell me that the defence has been playing THAT poorly- especially with LIDSTROM, KRONWALL, RAFALSKI, and now CHELIOS all gone to injury (and yes I have watched the games, Agalloch). We have the 2 top scoring defensemen down right now. Of course the offense isn't going to be as good!

Ericsson is also coming up, to provide the grittiness, so why can't we just have all three and be a great, balanced team? well.. I don't know if Quincey is the guy who can generate offense. Also I think Lebda is better version of Meech. Meech just carries the puck to the end and hold it in the board while get caught off position when the play goes back the other way. Seriously in Defensive zone, he just gives puck to everyone that nears by, be it Wings or other team. In neutral zone, he is getting caught off position. In offensive zone, either he is ineffective by being in wrong position or does absolutely nothing productive. yeah he played great game against Avs but anyone can have great 1 game. It is not fair for me to evaluate him without really giving him chance to get experience under his belt, but I don't see anything great from Meech that warrants him a regular spot in future. Sure he 'CAN' be a good D man when he gets more experience but I would assume it is going to take long time and you just know if they have it or not even without much experience. If we are gonna give our valuable D minute to a rookie, I think it should be Ericsson. He looks like he will learn very quick and ... maybe I'm crazy but I think he might develop into Lidstrom Jr in times.
Majsheppard 203 Report post Posted February 23, 2008 Well, I don't think either is going to be a long term fit for our team. I do however think they may have what it takes to be 6 and 7th defensemen. Perhaps that means we don't need a depth defensemen via trade, and now will look at only top four defensemen or none at all. There were many cough ups and miscues and such, but as the games are progressing they too are looking sharp all things considering. I mean only one goal allowed in the last two games with such an inexperienced group of players and only five on the bench. I think I feel alot better reguardless of what happens.
