If its like me than the answer is not much...Cheechoo-Thornton=Crappy...

BUT Waddell will need to do something to prevent a bashing by the eniter city of Atlanta, and he also has said that if the offers can't help them this year it may not happen. So we'll see.

You put that way on the side of extreme. Hockey is not that popular in Atlanta, and from what I hear, the local media barely covers it at all. This is despite the fact that every other Atlanta sports team sucks, and the Thrashers are probably the best ones there.

How is it a weak argument? Right at the moment this team is in shambles... we look worse than the Leafs. What player with any say would want to come into an uncertain situation when they have the choice of a surging team in Anaheim... Its a bery sound argument, and one I'm sad is a reality.

Because before these injuries the Wings were by far the best team in the league, and the only player that MAY not be back for the start of the playoffs is Cleary...everyone else will be back and I think that once that happens the Wings will once again be playing like the best team in the league.

I don't know man, I guess I'm just not sure where you are getting this uncertainty from. Yes, we have injuries. These players will all be back well in time for the playoffs, except for Cleary, who will also be back in time. Are you saying that it is uncertain because they might get injured again? Because as I said before, any player from any team can get injured, and many of them have had injuries in their past. One time injuries are not a reason to look past a team. Or are you uncertain because you think that, even healthy, this team is not a solid contender? Because then I just respectfully disagree. I just really don't see where the uncertainty comes from, and if you could explain it to me, I would probably see better where you are coming from.

Saying that, the reason why Waddell made the moves at the deadline last year is because he promised to make the playoffs, if he didn't he would have been fired. I can see him making a move for someone with more impact then Filppula right now.

Anyways Eklund (ya i know), has Sundin's list of 3 teams down to Anaheim, Detroit, Montreal. Should hear an answer on that front before Toronto's plane leaves for Ottawa tomorrow at 3 pm.

How do you know that? Its just as likely that these guys will be rusty, or depending on the injury more prone to getting re-injured.

I agree. I think that Waddell is still on the hot seat in Atlanta, especially because their 5 year plans keep becoming 6/7/8 year plans to be a contender. He needs results that are both long term and immediate, and to be honest I think part of why Hossa wants out is because he doesn't have faith that Atlanta can ever build a contender. That being said, if Waddell trades Hossa, and they fail to make the playoffs, he may be filing for unemployment checks in June. I think that the Wings just don't have the goods to make a competitive offer for a player like Hossa in a scenario like Atlanta is in. And in terms of the Holland-Waddell friendship, which do you think he cares more about, his job, or helping his friends team win...I'd say his job...Just like Kevin Lowe...so regardless of my feelings on if I want Hossa to come here, I don't think he will soley due to circumstances...

I don't but nobody knows if they will or will not. Going off what the doctors have said in terms of timelines for these injuries I have no reason to doubt that they will be healthy come playoffs. And who says that if he goes to Anaheim there is no chance Neidermayer and Selanne get hurt, since they aren't in game shape yet due to late starts...nobody...

Its a chance you take, any player has just a good of a chance of an injury as any other player in the league. You just need to look at what the roster should be at the time of the playoffs. And these guys should be back. And with no reason to doubt that I see the team as the best in the league again come playoffs.

I'm asoory, not to be rude, but I completely agree with you, for the most part. Now, I do agree something does look off about Z. He still doesn;t look himself, a little slower, a bit too hesitant, and doesn't shoot as much. BUT, Datsyuk has not played bad... In fact, he was the ONLY Red Wing that I noticed giving 100%effort all night long.... every time I blinked an eye the guy was on the ice tryin to produce stuff, set up plays and etc. he is doing everything he should, but its the players around him that are screwing it up... they aren't getting his passes and stuff. I notice he flew back for the back-check, was one of the only wings to win puck battles consistantly, and, I thought, was very good in the face off circle. ( I would like to know why Babs put Z as centre over Pavel before anyways... I always thought Pavel is he btter centre). Overall, with the team right now... Datsyuk is basically the only player that is trying all game long... so I think things will be much like this until Rafi (San Jose game return), Kronners (Tues), and Dom (likely San Jose gaame return) are back. And then things will REALLY pick up when Captain Nick returns on March 9. So, until then I see Pavel the one trying all game.. but maybe other wings will finally pick it up too... GO WINGS

Now lets say Ottawa offers Vermette + 1st rounder...I'd take that over Filppula + Sammy + 2nd rounder...

or Montreal offers Streit and Ryder + a pick (as rumored on Spectors a few day back) I take that over Filpulla + Sammy + a 2nd

Just in terms of this years help. Those 2 offers are more competitive than anything the Wings are going to offer. Thus I think IF Waddell sticks to his "must help this years chances" motif, the Wings cannot compete with other offers.

Ottawa said they wont offer there 1st in a trade because they host the draft this year and want to make a pick at home ;)

Atlanta wont take Ryder because he's a UFA.
