It always seems like the east is a bigger playoff battle than the West? Why? Cause they all play at the same mediocre level of hockey??

Dallas, Detroit, Anaheim, hell even a team like Phoenix could feed probably 75% of Eastern teams their lunch in the playoffs...if not all of them. The West is a grind. The East is a cakewalk. Look at Buffalo. They got through the first round of the playoffs last year without even trying..and thats by their own admission. Look at Ottawa versus Anaheim. Anaheim plowed over "the best team in the East". And before that, when teams like Carolina and Tampa were winning it, the western teams were limping into each round, after having played tons of grinding, defensive hockey, while the Eastern teams came in having played through blow outs..

i dont agree at all, but good points. no way about phoenix, they are too inexperienced and undisciplined(sp?) to even contend in the playoffs and would get their asses handed to them. i see them frequently and go to alot of games at JOBing.com arena. they arent terrible, but far from good. dallas, detroit, and anaheim are givens. what about philly? as much as i hate them, they are coming up, and would probably be near 1st seed if they hadnt set on their current 10 game loss streak. i meant battle for spots too, not actual playoff performances, since alot of east playoff runs have been mostly the same teams recently.

the east has all the good players, but the west has all the tough ones. thats the difference. if a team like the ducks, sharks, flames make the finals, they will win the cup. they will man handle any of the skilled east teams.

i predict we extinguish the flames again!!

You're a fool.

If this were the end of the season, you'd be the guy telling us to stop talking about the draft and start comparing the east to the west, and then typing foolish things like "BRING IT ON!".

Fact: Trade deadline is Tuesday. That is all you need to know.

Hatred of the deep seeded, 3+ generation, driving distance kind favors the East easily.

Discipline favors the West.

West plays a grind where-as the East plays like two goats ramming each other repeatedly.

East has bigger stars, but West has better overall talent.

I remember this question was asked around october maybe and someone brought up the statistisc of Western teams vs Eastern Teams and the west won like 70% of the games vs each other in the 06-07 season.

Edit: Anyone care to help?

Still holds true. only the sharks, hawks, and wild don't have a winning record against the east, but you can add 2 more teams if you ignore the horrible Southeast.

Dank, forgot to add that the West also is more well defined on who the have's and havenots are.

I guess that puts us s*** out of luck, and pretty much sums up how worried I am about the Wings stacking up to those teams.

I think the bottom line is that the West has had the top 3 or 4 teams in the league for the last couple of years. Ottawa is the only great team in the East, and they looked pathetic in the Finals last year.
