Let's relax. Some people have been pushing the panic button a little too much. I can't believe how many people are bashign Holland. I would like to note that most of them are not regular posters around here.

But seriously, folks, it's not like the Wings took a step backward here. Signing Stuart was "safe", but when the Wings are on their game thye are SCARY good. You've got to believe that they will get back on their game, since there is no reason for them to be in this slump as of late. It's just a fluke. When the Wings prove each of you wron I expect each of you to write Holland an apology letter.

When did i claim to defend Hudler. I just believe at least with Hudler he can mature into something better, he has a future. Feds is on his demise. I would rather keep the young talent. Its not much of an improvement

if i recall correctly, the general consensus on these boards was that we needed 3 things: depth at defense, more size/grit, and secondary scoring ... we got depth at defense with stuart, and if mccarty makes it up the 2 of them bring some added size and grit (not enough to please everyone, i know, but more than before) ... so the only thing not addresses was secondary scoring, and for the umpteenth time prior to our slump/rash of injuries we had as much secondary scoring as anyone in the league ... 2 out of 3 isn't bad ...

it's easy to look at the trades that happened and say we could have done that, especially fedorov, but we're not on the inside to know what is going on ... if players or coaches have reservations about getting a player, that is significant ... i don't know too many cup winners lacking in chemistry ... also a good possibility columbus wouldn't deal with us ...

in any case, to stop cheering for your team because they didn't wow you at the deadline is pretty weak ...

so the only thing not addresses was secondary scoring, and for the umpteenth time prior to our slump/rash of injuries we had as much secondary scoring as anyone in the league ... 2 out of 3 isn't bad ...

And that is in correlation with the people that are injured. The Wings have very, very little scoring threats if they are out. They won't be out the whole season (knock on wood) so it's impossible to say that the Wings are going to continue to score no goals or one goal a game. But that doesn't change the fact that there is NO scoring depth on this team.

I think after posting this, ad nauseam in practically every thread today, that we get the fact that you don't support Ken Holland.

He didn't get you the wunderkind that is Sergei Fedorov ( oh my lord!) and he didn't trade the future of the team for a guy like Marian Hossa, who he had no chance of signing, had he come here, given the impending expense of the next Zetterberg contract. Not to mention that there wasn't any way for him to match the ridiculous price in talent that the Penguins paid.

I know what you mean and you could say the same thing about the Stars to an extent. I agree that when the Wings have such great success in the regular season and they're ousted in the playoffs, I think we all feel let down. At the same time I think it's amazing that the Wings have been this good for this long, especially with the new salary cap era. I just don't think it's realistic to expect a team to go/win a cup like every other year consistently and for other fans to laugh at us is kinda stupid and hypocritical.

Defense wins championships, Offense wins games. Anehiem beat Ottawa last year with better defense then the Sens had offense. We lost to the Ducks even though we had better defense (In my opinion) because we had too many injuries. Stuart is insurance on the defense plus he lets us come back with a big hit here and there.

To anyone who is made we did not pick up more scoring... we lost mathias last year trying to get secondary scoring and now he is an awesome prospect who will be big in the NHL next year. I am glad we did not sell the farm for a big player or pick up someone over the hill (Federov has no heart for the cup left IMO). We need our young stars o step up like Dats and Zet did in the playoffs last year. Babcock can make them do it.

Not being able to score has lost us a lot of playoff runs. We need good playoff scoring. It seems a different type of player is good at scoring in reg. season AND playoffs. I digress. I think Holland made a good decision. I typed at length in another thread. I was mad at first, but I don't think we have a good chance of winning the Cup this year because of too many injuries. I would have said we had the perfect team to win a couple months ago. I don't know if we can get our act together in time though, and who knows who'll be injured next.

Why lose good young players for a rent-a-player just to lose becuase of injuries. It was smart imo not to give up too much to get a ridiculous player. I wish he'd have gotten Fedorov but who knows what happened there, you know.
