wingsownnhl43 14 Report post Posted February 26, 2008 For those of you wings fans that are sour at Holland for not acquiring these guys, please realize that Holland probably tried his hardest. In Hossa's case, look at what Pittsburgh had to give up. Angelo Esposito, 1st rd pick, and Colby Armstrong. Esposito is a legit prospect, Detroit doest have a legit prospect. I guarantee you guys Holland inquired about Hossa, but lets be real, Detroit didnt have the enough chips to put into play. In Brad Richards case, please realize that this guy makes 8 mil a year for the next 3 seasons. Also realize that we have to resign Henrik Zetterberg. Dallas got a hell of a deal, but we simply can not afford Richards contract. Would I have liked to add secondary scoring? Yes. But, we have to realize the players worth acquiring just weren't possible.

alienanxiety 23 Report post Posted February 26, 2008 like i said in the other thread. satan could have been had for a prospect and a pick. and fedorov could have been had for something better than ... ted ruth??? maybe ritola or mcgrath. those 2 forwards, along with staurt would have been excellent. no need for hossa or richards or jokinen
akustyk 84 Report post Posted February 26, 2008 Pittsburgh got robbed for Hossa and it's "do or die" for them now. and it really is a risky thing for them. they look legit this year but a lot depends on their goaltending which doesn't look convincing for the good playoff run. Richards didn't exactly come cheap, either. for Wings it'd require giving up ie. Howard and Flip, and I most certainly don't like them to be gone for Richards. though, I'd still like Holland to get some solid forward. I assume he passed being unable to find a good option for Wings movable assets.

Because if I am misremembering (Clemens reference) he wasn't traded, therefore if he wasn't traded for a prospect and a pick how do you know he could have been had for a prospect and a pick. Plus for the 87000000th time Feds was not going to get traded to a central division rival that is not only the best team in their division but the best in the league. Now if I am wrong about Satan sorry, but I cannot find where he was traded for a prospect and a pick so therefore I do not buy your argument that he was available for that! e_mcgrath88 0 Report post Posted February 26, 2008 Shero should be fired for that horrible trade..... i'm sorry to say but the Pens don't have the D or the Goaltending to win a cup.. they're now what Tampa used to be.. Hossa will sign somewhere else in the offseason...... lmao@ Shero for being an idiot...
akustyk 84 Report post Posted February 26, 2008 And let's face it, down the stretch there is no way Pittsburgh can afford Crosby, Hossa AND Malkin. I guess Hossa is a rental. and they'll sure like hell dump a good part of their developed youngsters to accomodate Sid and Malkin plus some quality goalie under the salary cap. after a second though this Hossa trade seems pretty logic. this is about the last moment this young, developed Pens team can go out and go for it. next year they're likely to be missing good part of their young core

The Wings made a lukewarm offer for Fedorov -- there was dissention in the ranks on whether he was a fit or not -- and the Jackets didn't feel it was up to snuff. Since the dust has settled a bit I'm fine with how things shook out. The prices on some of the forwards (Hossa) were ridiculous and I've got no problem with Holland standing pat in that regard. The onus is now on Filppula, Franzen, Samuelsson, Hudler and Cleary.
SnipeShow 0 Report post Posted February 27, 2008 I don't know why people would be upset with Ken Holland. We are the best team in the NHL right now, that alone should be enough to get your respect. I guess Wings fan really are spoiled. I think Sundin was our guy, but he never waived his NTC. I'm happy with our team as it stands right now. Solid Blueline, fairly reliable goalies and a decent 4 lines of forwards. If we don't win the cup this year, will it really hurt more than last year? I doubt it. You still gotta cheer for your team and be happy with what you have. If we don't win it all this year, then I'm sure we can bulk up on July 1st and/or next year's trade deadline. I'm so glad Ken Holland runs this team instead of the whiners I see on this site.
Superman54 91 Report post Posted February 27, 2008 I was shocked what Pittsburgh gave up for Hossa And if they do not re-sign him I think this deal was completley idiotic!
