Why isn't Downey playing every night?

So you'd reward Hudler's incompetent play by putting him on the 1st line. It's amazing how he keeps getting better in your mind, while in everyone else's mind he's nothing. He shouldn't even be dressed, let alone be on the 1st line.

I would put him with Zetterberg because I believe hie would fit better with Hank and Flip would fit better with Dats. Hank's line is considered the first line because it's the best line. but if it makes you feel better, you can call that the second line.

It's really more about demoting guys that are on the top two lines right now and not doing their job than it is about rewarding Hudler, who should have been on the top two lines all along.

The problem with this roster right now is that there's no one to demote. Our 2nd liners should really be 3rd liners on any other top team, so it's hard to scratch anybody, but I still think that if anyone hasn't been cutting it lately, it has to be Hudler.

I don't know why you like him so much, but I guess due to your expertise with stats, you could find a stat that makes any player seem great or useful.

And my argument is that it was a mistake to take him off the second line to begin with.

The Wings' lines should probably look like this:

Hudler/Zetterberg/Holmstrom

Filppula/Datsyuk/Cleary

Franzen/Kopecky/Samuelsson

Maltby/Draper/Downey (Drake)

I do agree that if he's going to be in the lineup, then he should be on the 2nd line as he has no place and is useless on the bottom lines. Since day 1 this has always been my argument as to why Hudler has no future on this team and should be moved. I dont feel he brings nearly enough to be in our top 6, especially considering the makeup of the others in it and his size. He will never be a good bottom line player, therefore i see no place for him here. Ive always envisioned Hudler's future as being a pretty decent 2nd liner on a bad team.

I think Hudler would actually do better playing with Datsyuk, I could see more chemistry there

Hudler-Dats-Holms

Flipps-Zetter-Cleary

Mule-Kops-Sammy

Maltby-Draps-McCarty (too good to be true!)

The Wings have six guys whose offensive numbers make them top-six forwards based on the league. Filppula, who has never left the top two lines this season, is not one of them. People generally consider Flip our fifth best forward. So by that estimation, we have more top-six forwards than we have spots for them. With Cleary out, that means we have five guys who have top-six offense plus Filppula. That's six forwards. What is the problem?
