I was just looking at the standings, and if nothing changes to much, this is 1st round match-ups...

1. Detroit vs 8. Colorado

2. Dallas vs 7. Vancouver

3. Minnesota vs 6. Calgary

4. Anaheim vs 5. San Jose

This is if nothing changed between now and then.

I think a series with Colorado who will have Sakic, Foote, Forskin. versus Detroit who will have McCarty, and the rest of the injured back. It's like de ja vu! There is no way that Colorado can hang in a series with us.

I think Dallas can squeek by Vancouver once again.

A toss up between Minnesota and Calgary

I am not sure if SJ can beat the Anaheim Thugs in a series, but I am fairly certain SJ's big bodies can wear Anaheim down and maybe take a couple of those whining ******* out. Preferrably Pronger and Perry.

Plus, in this scenario, Izzy24 gets to see more Wings games in person this season.

Thats cool. I have to wait til they see Anaslime or Anacrime. Thats what we call it here locally.

Too early to call. There are too few points separating the teams, esp 6-10. Remember the bottom teams are all fighting to get in still. Either way if the Wings stay 1 or 2 we should avoid sharks or ducks in the first, obviously. Avs would be a good match-up, but we need to see what happens over the next few weeks......

I see Flames taking over Wild for their division, seeing last stretch of the season is mostly divisional matchups and Minesota doesn't fare well against their division. Also Colorado will move up a spot or two I think

so final standing might look something like this

1. Detroit vs 8. Vancouver

2. Dallas vs 7. Colorado

3. Calgary vs 6. Minesota

4. Anaheim vs 5. San Jose

Never hope for a certain opponent. I remember how badly I wanted the Wings to play the Oilers in '06. Just let it all play out and hope for the best when the seeds are set.

All I want is a healthy, non-slumping Wings team in the first round... and then a Cup.

Exactly--and I wouldn't mind avoiding a hot goaltender. Actually, I don't know if the Wings make the goalies look good, or the goalies truly are that good--regardless I'd love to avoid that fate.

Hmmm I am willing to bet that Nashville or Phoenix actually make the playoffs this year.

Teams you can already count out for both the East/West IMO are: Blues, Kings, Lightning, Maple Leafs, Oilers, Thrashers, Panthers.

Ironically, Edmonton was the only team I didn't want the Wings to play.

If the Sharks met the Ducks, I'd be cheering for San Jose... I don't they could even hang with this team healthy. They had to get a cheap bounce off the netting just to get the winner on Friday.

Guest Canadian Wings

At this point we can lose to Colorado OR Vancouver in a 7 game series. Especially Vancouver when they have Luongo and we have two inconsistent goaltenders.

If we want an easy first round to get confidence for the rest of the playoffs... you better hope for the avs.

Im hoping for the avs, I wanna see us play them with a Downey-Drake-McCarty line...

Im hoping we get Anahiem at some point, the best games this season have been against them.

I have a different take on this:

Teams I would rather play in first round than later rounds:

Flames, Avs- both of these teams become more dangerous with a series win and some confidence under their belt.

Teams I would rather play in a later round:

Wild - they strike me as more of a first round winner than a second or third round winner. Sooner or later their European players will tire of playing for no money.

Stars - this team is good for one series, not so sure they are good for two or three, especially if they have to play a hard, fast, fore-checking team. They don't seem to do as well in traffic.

Yotes - is there another team out there that has first round upset winner written all over it in big bold black letters? Best to be avoided in the first round at all costs.

Teams it just doesn't matter:

Ducks - the road to the SCF is going to go through Anaheim. I guess if you're an owner, you want to meet the Ducks in round 3 so at least you got three rounds of attendance $$. Not saying they can't be beat, but they are definitely the team to beat.

Canucks - with Luongo, they are good for a scare in any round. Just don't think they can win any round.

Sharks - ya just never know what you are going to get with the Sharks. They can dominate a series and still lose. They can easily fail to meet expectations. They have the ability to win in four straight over just about anybody. But suspect defense and goaltending is never a winning combination.

Preds - how many playoffs rounds have they won in their history?

Team I would rather play in the second round:

Wings - I think this team is skilled enough and mentally tough enough to avoid most first round upsets. Unless I'm Anaheim, I also don't want to see them in the third round - the smell of the Cup might be too strong. Ergo, I would rather play the Wings in the second round.

That's my analysis of the 10 teams with a chance to make the playoffs.

Inconsistant goal tending? We've had a short slump, well maybe not so short, but other than that our goalies have been stellar. What team are you watching?

^He's Canadian so i'm guessing that stems from watching too much TSN. TSN thinks our goaltending is weak but they neglect to realize goaltending is not an issue in DET when Lidstrom is on the ICE for half a game..... But since he's out right now appartently we have major goaltending issues... lol

No don't say that. Even if you think it, just don't say it. We are winning this year. Anyways, we all know Luongo is not enough for the Canucks to win any series, especially against us.

The Avs on the other hand would be an interesting matchup. I'm actually thrilled to be playing them but like somebody earlier said... I would rather just see the playoffs take there course and have us win.

And Ozzy and Hasek are actually a bit inconsistent. Of course they are playing behind no defense and really don't have a choice but to be inconsistent. Regardless, they are still first and second in GAA, tied at 2.10, even through this slump. Have faith in them. They'll pull through. Especially because they are both experienced playoff goaltenders.

Don't paint all us canucks (nationality, not the team) with that same brush... ;)

I like our tandem...

That would be one hell of a first round if this actually ended up being the case.

Wings vs Avs with a bunch of old roster players back for one last run (good history behind the series)

Dallas vs Vancouver- rematch of last year, and also one of the closest played series from last year (potential "rivalry" series)

San Jose vs Anaheim- These two have been at eachothers throats this season, and it would be very interesting to see which team can out muscle the other (and who is left standing)

As pointed out already, I don't want to pick my poison, a la Edmonton series recently. They were supposed to be a slam dunk win for the Wings since they played a "similar" style. Well, they reverted to trapping, and look what happened...

Every series and every opponent will be dangerous in one form or another. I don't care who the opponent is, if the Wings don't play around the top of their game, winning will be much harder for them.
