"I think in the last 10 years my favorite sports moment would have to be seeing Steve Yzerman with the Stanley Cup, you know, seeing your role model succeed, that's uh, you know it's definitely great to have someone like that to follow. I guess he's always been someone that I've tried to model my game after and there's certain things you can take away from other people and he's definitely a guy I look to."

Crosby is giving our Stevie Y some love. I've always liked Ovechkin more but to tell you the truth after watching this video I respect Crosby a lot more and like him a lot more. Always good to hear praise for hometown athletes.

Though I dont see a forseeable end to the TV/media infatiuation with Sid, I think i the coming years, many of the so called Crosby haters will let up. He will mature as a hockey player, and as a person. People will see all that he has to offer. Yes, the media has carpet bombed us with Crosby this and that, but when he has some interviews, you can see a genuine guy behind the hype.

Also could have been in reference to Yzerman: his reference to making a commitment to one team for a long time. He signed for 8 years at a young age, was ready to make that kind of commitment when he pretty much knows the league is on his shoulders, that he could go to a larger market (or a market in Canada), which is probably what he wanted to begin with. He's been great to Pittsburgh, though.

Great to see! Never knew Yzerman was his hockey idol. Looks like me and Sid have a few things in common. :D

Sid's the man. I've always enjoyed watching this kid play. Amazing abilities. And apparently GREAT taste in idols. lol

Crosby will go down as a great player, probably one of the best to play the game.

Yzerman has already gone down as one of the best to ever play the game.

But I think Ovechkin is better than Crosby, at least as of right now. Maybe that's because Crosby is injured, but Ovechkin as little to no support, but nonetheless he's a one man wrecking crew.

Yeah I agree. In a few years, there will be other players to talk about, if not next year. If Toronto lands Stamkos next year, I'm sure the media will be all over how and when Stamkos is going to turn the Leafs franchise around. Or it not Stamkos, then Tavares after that.

Im just curious to know though..how long is it before we see Crosby sacrifice a little of his offensive game for the defensive end of things. Right now hes decent defensively, but I wonder if hell soon take the route Steve did and become a great defensive forward. Malkin is already better than Crosby is in that department actually..

I agree. I think theyre more or less *** for tat in terms of skill, with Crosby having the edge in playmaking to Ovechkin's ability to score, but Ovechkin seems to have this killer instinct that is unparalleled in the NHL right now. Maybe its just because Ovechkin has a few years on Crosby, but I think Ovechkin definitely has the better ability to channel his emotions into the game, whereas Crosby often gets frustrated and it takes away from his game, although hes gotten better in that department..

Stevie didn't really change his game until Bowman asked him too, right?

I'm thinking Crosby is going to be on the top of the scoring charts for the next 10 years at least. Which is funny because if you think about it, in 10 years Crosby will be 30, just slightly older than Datsyuk is now. That's ridiculous to even think about.

Bowman is credited with too much influence for Yzerman's defensive game. People act as if Yzerman was a purely one-dimensional player, like a Craig Janney or Pierre Turgeon, and then Bowman said 'Hey guy, play some defense.'

The truth follows more along the lines of:

Yzerman was a very good offensive player who was also quite capable in his own zone. Bowman asked Yzerman to shift his focus from offense to defense. This took Yzerman, already one of the league's better defensive forwards and one of only a handful of guys with high end ability at both ends, and turned him into one of the five best defensive forwards in the league from 94-2002, but sacrificing the top end offensive output Detroit fans were accustomed to seeing from him before that period.

However, Bowman's asking Yzerman to refocus definitely impacted the team's success. It's like I always say in Yzerman discussions...had he remained an offense-first player, he probably would have finished his career with something close to 800 goals and 2000 points in the same number of games...but he probably wouldn't have been as truly great a player and likely the Wings wouldn't have won as many Cups.

Now everyone here will start to like Crosby all of a sudden, after bashing him for no reason like many of you have done in the past. That's hypocrisy at its best.

I was about to say something to the same effect. I've always loved Crosby, he is amazing. It's funny because I'm from Toronto and all the Leaf fans seem to think he is a cry baby? They go home and watch Tucker, McCabe and crew cry their eyes out every night. Even more hypocrisy to add to the pile.

Crosby is an amazing, talented player, given the 'C' at a very young age.

Seems like his dream of becoming like Steve is coming true. The only difference between the situation for Crosby and the situation for Yzerman is Yzerman's 'C' came from promise, talent, and ability to be a leader. While Crosby is promising and very talented, does he really come across as a leader? Times are changing. Gary Roberts is on that team with way more experience and leadership skills than Crosby. I don't get it.

Seems like it's just best for the franchise financially to give Crosby the C.

Good to hear that he looks up the The Man.

Mark me down. I was never a big Crosby fan but now he gets a big thumbs up!
