Yzermania19 1 Report post Posted March 12, 2008 The last I heard he is out with a rib injury he suffered in his last game with the Griffins. He's not practicing and no one seems to know - or is saying - when he may be able to play. There's been no new news on Mac in the last couple of days so I guess it's safe to say things are status quo for the moment.
wingslogo19 281 Report post Posted March 12, 2008 Mac still hasn't been on the ice so im guessing not till at least the weekend or even sometime next week

miller76 463 Report post Posted March 12, 2008 Ken Daniels and Mickey Redmond were saying last wekend during the game against Buffalo that McCarty was a week away from his first appearance as Redwing. So I figured either Nashville on Saturday or Sunday in Columbus.
SweWings 45 Report post Posted March 12, 2008 ASAP - I know it's more of a nostalgic thing but damn I can't wait. I'm man enough to admit I'll prolly get a bit teary .
Barrie 900 Report post Posted March 13, 2008 I'm man enough to admit I'll prolly get a bit teary . Same here. I can't wait to see DMac wearing #25 again, I'll shed a tear. I was in attendance when Yzerman passed Lemiuex all-time in goals, and got a bit teary when we gave him a standing O. It was the best live sports moment I've ever been a part of. SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted March 13, 2008 I know what I am going to post is going to ruin the party probably, and I definitely for nostalgic purposes to an extent think it is going to be cool to see McCarty back and I definitely like him, but I'm honestly not getting my hopes up with me. We've all seen the player he once was, and I hope he can re-discover that mode, but let's be honest. Some time out of the league, was battling personal problems, and it's not like he was ever a bona-fide superstar. Hopefully I will be proven wrong though by him. Opie 308 Report post Posted March 13, 2008 How dare you post that? Go root for the Ducks if you're not going to support your team. Well at least he didn't freak out due to a trade not happening, and give up on a team that was and still is in 1st in the league, right?

You're absolutely right Opie, as usual. It still remains to be seen, though, how this team will stack up in the playoffs. I could care less if they finish 1st or 8th, as long as they make it. Home ice advantage is overrated anyway.

Yzermania19 1 Report post Posted March 14, 2008 On channel 7's news earlier tonight, Don Shane said that Mac practised with the team today, but it was "clear to see he is still a few weeks away from playing" (Don's words, not mine), so if he plays at all it might not be until the playoffs. I remember last week or so it was either Babs or Holland that said Mac was like, in October while the rest of the team is 3/4 of the way through the season. In other words, he had some catching up to do. This was before he got hurt in GR. So we may not see him at all this season.

RedStormRising 7 Report post Posted March 15, 2008 (edited) He is still a few weeks out... I loved this quote though: "I'm confident in my ability, and obviously the organization is," McCarty said. "All my life it's been proving everybody sort of wrong. It's sort of motivation to hear people who don't think I can do it. There's some good things in store. I enjoy making people eat their words." Yzermania19 1 Report post Posted March 15, 2008 He has broken ribs - Darren McCarty , recovering from broken ribs, took part in the morning skate. McCarty still has yet to practice with the Wings, and likely won't for a few more days. Wings take care of their business "With the ribs, I got to wait until they're 100 per cent," McCarty said. "It's a little bit frustrating just because I feel great. It's something I can't play hurt with because one hit or one wrong movement could really set me back. So hopefully next week, I'll be able to turn the corner and practice hard and hopefully within a couple of weeks everything will heal up." Though McCarty doesn't have the green light [for contact] yet, he said he feels steady progress is being made. Previously, he's only had the odd skate by himself. WhiteLightning91 105 Report post Posted March 18, 2008 The Windsor Star's Dave Waddell says that Red Wings forward Darren McCarty might get into a handful of games, if that, as his broken ribs (and the rib cartilage that is likely torn from the injury, which is the "official" injury as opposed to the result thereof) are healing very slowly: March 17, Windsor Star: It appears Darren McCarty isn't likely to play before the end of March. The Leamington native has been nursing a rib cartilage injury for three weeks and Wings general manager Ken Holland said McCarty's injury typically takes from four to six weeks to heal. "I don't think he's close," Holland said. "Maybe he plays sooner, but we're hoping he gets a chance play the last three, four games. He's skating to skate, he still has pain." Holland admits the clock is ticking on McCarty's chances of cracking Detroit's line-up for the playoffs. However, with the unpredictability of playoffs, he refused to say McCarty had to play in the regular season before the Wings would consider using him in the playoffs. "You don't know about injuries," Holland said. "You start to get 3-4-5 guys hurt up front, someone's got to play. If he doesn't play a regular season game, it's hard to think he's going to play a playoff game, unless we go on a long run and get banged up front. I'm optimistic he's going to play some regular season games." Wings coach Mike Babcock has stated that McCarty must play some regular season games because the playoffs aren't the time to assess talent...
