They went on to win the Cup! 3 games to 2 against the Rangers in the finals. Yeah!

EDIT: This made them back to back champions. --correction-- no it didn't

On March 24, 1936, the Detroit Red Wings played an NHL Stanley Cup playoff game against the Montreal Maroons that combined 60 minutes of regulation play and 116 minutes, 30 seconds of overtime.

Detroit won 1-0 and went on to win the series and its first Stanley Cup.

It remains the longest game in NHL playoff history.

That was their first, not their second of back to back.

If there are Wings fans here who don't know March 26,1997 by heart, then I would question how big of a Wings fan they are.

Tomorrow is 11 years....wow, doesn't seem so long ago.

today is only the 23rd

This place cracks me up.

Who are you (or anyone on here) to question "how much of a fan" someone is?

There may be 50 fans that started liking Detroit yesterday and have NO IDEA of the history. They may be the greatest fans in the world, but you feel you have the right to question their "Fan-ness" because they may not know the minutia of every minute of the Wings' existence?

Puh-leez.

For the record, I do know what happened on the date in question, but the self-righteous attitudes around here piss me off. We're supposed to be "brothers and sisters" united by the common love of the greatest franchise in all of sports and yet people still have to try and feel superior to others for no apparent reason.

I get chills just thinking about it.

What a game.

We ordered pizza, it was delivered right after the all the rough stuff was stopped and the refs were sorting it out. The delivery guy stayed a few extra minutes to see what happened.

What a night.

To call that game part of the minutiae of Red Wings history is ignorant and I don't think you're a real fan. :P

(We need a wavy guy smiley here to make it crystal clear when we're joking)

I know, seriously.

I couldn't freaking believe they were considering vacation of C Street southwesterly of B Street allowing the vacated area to accrue to Battle Creek Recreational Park. That kind of stuff had no business being in that meeting.
