Is Nicklas Lidstrom going to win the Norris Trophy again?

I'm trying not to sound like a homer, but I don't think there's another dman in the league that even comes close to him. Sure, he lost some games due to injury but this award is for the best defenseman in the NHL. If all 30 GM's had to pick one dman for one year, who would their top pick be? Unquestionably Nick Lidstrom.

After he passes Orr for most all time or even most in a row, then maybe people will start to talk about changing the name, but I seriously doubt the name will change and I realize you were being a little facetious, but I thought I would just let it be known to those that may not know you were taking a little poetic liberty!

Edit: Tori Spelling!

The Calgary Herald did an article last weekend as to whether Phaneuf could get some consideration for the Norris this year. They listed a bunch of stats and Dion is top 5 in most of them and #1 in several. Lidstrom is clearly #1 in pts and +/-, but didn't show up in the top 5 in a lot of the other categories. Not that that's necessarily a bad thing when one of the categories was penalty minutes. They discussed whether Lid's time off this year hurts or helps his status. Lastly they did a straw poll of western sportswriters (the guys who actually decide the winner). Consensus was Lidstrom is still the best dman in the league and will win yet again. But there was a strong feeling that his run is going to end sooner rather than later.

Dion will get a lot of 2nd place votes, but not 1st. That's how the voting works right (1st, 2nd, 3rd)?

We're still not in. :ranting:

I want 6th or 3rd. I want the Wild in round 1. If the Flames get the Wild, then the Flames should get through to round 2. If the Flames get the Sharks or Ducks, I'll get to see one playoff game live and then I'll concentrate on golf. If the Flames get the Wings, I might see two games.

OR the Flames actually play like the team that has just dominated games at times this year and we have a long run. (I don't think that happens personally).

How bout you? Gonna make a trip to see a game live?

I don't think getting his ass kicked by Lilja is going to get him any extra votes. :D

This should be Lidstrom's easiest Norris win ever, since the rest of the competition is far behind. Gonchar might steal some votes, but he still sucks in his own zone, and if he wins the Norris, the league should disband the trophy.

Phaneuf might start a run of his own, but it isn't going to start this year.

I can't remember is the norris a one vote system or is a first second third vote system.

If it is the latter Lids could easily sweep and get all of the first place votes, half of the second place and 1/4 of the third place votes, because literally there is no one close to him this year.

Don't take that as I disrespect any other d-men, Phanuef is going to be great could win a couple of Norris trophies, but Nick is just that much better than anyone else this year.

I think Next year (this is a guess based on improved play this year) Phanuef and maybe Neids(If back) will give Lids some competition but not this year.

The voting is conducted at the end of the regular season by members of the Professional Hockey Writers Association, and each individual voter ranks their top five candidates on a 10-7-5-3-1 points system. Three finalists are named and the trophy is awarded at the NHL Awards ceremony after the playoffs.

Here's the article. It's an interesting read. It does more than discuss Phaneuf vs Lidstrom, it also briefly analyzes the other contenders.

I don't see how Phaneuf can win, unless the voters are tired of giving it to Lidstrom every year. Anyway, that article was from the Calgary Herald, which I think it's safe to say is biased as hell on this matter.

Nobody does this year. You couldn't have read the article if you think the Herald was picking Dion. They just discussed the possibility. The only thing coming out of this article is that Nick wins hands down. It wasn't a homer article at all
