Jennings Trophy Not Won Yet...

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

Right now the Wings have 183 goals against and 1 game left. The Ducks have 186 and 2 games left.

So, the Wings need to let in less than 3 goals on Sunday and/or hope for the Ducks to not shut out there opponents in the next 2 games.

I'm sure the Wings won't let in 6 goals again ( ) but all I'm saying is that they can't just sit back and relax if they want Oz and Dom to have the trophy.

Play tight and put it out of reach.

the MASTERTON (not masterson) trophy is awarded to the player who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to ice hockey. Here is what the trophy looks like.

No team can win this trophy. Individual award only.

its mispoke. You hope you never mispoke in here.

Misspeak or misspeaking is refering to the 3rd person.

Consider this your warning.

Woah, maybe we should get Matt to include a grammar checker along with the spell checker. I may have to google search to determine if I need to use 'who' or 'whom' in the future...

Oh, and it's spelled referring, not 'refering'... :D

I think the race is actually a little closer, even than that. I was reading at HFBoards that shootout goals don't count toward the Jennings trophy. And if I remember, the actual mark is:

Red Wings

81 GP

178 GA

Ducks

80 GP

179 GA

where are you getting this from? nhl.com lists as 183 and 186 and i don't think that includes shootouts, though i'm not certain.

His numbers are correct, the NHL standings stats do include SO goals.

well that's kind of silly, the goals don't count towards the players stats why should they be reflected on the standings

From the NHL Official Rulebook,

84.4 ...."The losing goalkeeper will not be charged with the extra goal against. The player scoring the game-winning goal in the shootout will not be credited with a goal scored in his personal statistics."

I've searched and searched, and I can't seem to find anything that says if the SO goals count in the teams GA or not. I guess the only way to find out for sure it to tally up all 81 games played and find out. Any volunteers?

For those wanting to know, WITHOUT shootout goals

Detroit: 178 GA, 1 game remaining

San Jose: 183 GA, 1 game remaining

Anaheim: 179 GA, 2 games remaining (this afternoon against LA, they already have 2 goals against, so they currently sit at 181)

Basically if Detroit lets in 2 goals tomorrow or less, they lock it up.

EDIT: LA has just scored again on Anaheim, so Detroit now has a 3 goal cushion. 3GA tomorrow and they still win it.
