FirstSamuel1745 0 Report post Posted April 6, 2008 Coming from someone who lives in MD, I can't wait to see the Capitals get destroyed to shut these morons up around here who suddenly found out about hockey yesterday. Coming from someone else who lives in MD, its exciting to see hockey get some play on the radio and the local papers. There's some wonderful pockets of hockey in this state, and let's hope that Ovechkin and the Caps can increase the popularity of the game around here. As for all the Caps talk on this board - I'd like to think that Wings fans are hockey fans first. The Caps have been a great story and have played great hockey - why not talk em up? pjgj13 30 Report post Posted April 6, 2008 I am happy for Ovie. Caps are hot team now, I think they might pull off upset.. Seeing as both the Caps & Sens have the same number of points, if either team wins, it wouldn't be an upset at all.

You can one-up all you want, I played hockey in this state through college, I was at the game in 98 when the Wings' swept the Capitals and hoisted the cup in DC, and I have no love for the Capitals or their fans. The last time the Wings played the Caps in DC ~4 years ago I was forced into a fight outside the MCI center after we were told to "Go back to your own arena" when the Wings won 5-1. You guys are welcome to talk about the Caps all you want, and by all means be happy for them, but don't expect everyone to universally applaud their organization or the team. Viperar 16 Report post Posted April 6, 2008 well i hope were all hockey fans, yet i am a die hard wings fan there for i root for the wings and wings only. capitals and everyone else come playoffs .but thats just me. GO WINGS! so? I root for the wings first and foremost too, but since the caps wont be anywhere near the wings until the finals (which then i would root for the wings) its ok to be happy for them. Also...this is a red wings forum but it is also a hockey forum. I believe we are allowed to discuss other teams as well.

Thats pretty sweet you judge an entire fan base, even taking it up to the organization and the team, on a couple fans that gave you a hard time.
Mors 201 Report post Posted April 6, 2008 (edited) Thats pretty sweet you judge an entire fan base, even taking it up to the organization and the team, on a couple fans that gave you a hard time. I don't believe I came in here and said, "f*** the capitals and all their fans, they're complete pieces of s***" nor did I tell anyone else that they need to agree with my dislike for the team. Maybe you should climb down off your high horse just because I don't love every team in the NHL. You mean to tell me there are no teams in the entire league that you don't like? I love it when people jump all over someone on the internet because they don't automatically agree with everyone in a thread. DaKineMaui 8 Report post Posted April 6, 2008 It is, unfortunatly AO has drawn attention. So much so that I think a few of these guys are jumping ship. It is like when you buy new clothes which ever looks the most clean and sexy is what gets all the wear time. You're not speaking for me. The guy plays his heart out on one of the s***tiest teams in the league. Night in, night out.....season after season. For me? It's just a bonus that he happens to be one of the best players I've ever seen. Now that he's made the playoffs I'm just curious to see if he has another level. Nothing wrong with rooting for a player that is fun to watch.
SweWings 45 Report post Posted April 6, 2008 Now that he's made the playoffs I'm just curious to see if he has another level. Nothing wrong with rooting for a player that is fun to watch. But it's not just him anymore, with Bodreu they're playing a fun offense-minded game that inspires players. Just look at how much more fun Feds seems to have now... I'm not gonna apologize for cheering for a team that plays entertaining hockey and that have just completed a crazy turnaround to make the playoffs (22 out of 24 points in their final games). A real cinderella story and anything beyond this for the Caps is a bonus. And the match-up against Ottawa is wide open.
omnipotent_hudler 0 Report post Posted April 6, 2008 Caps are definitely my secondary team in the playoffs this year. Let's just hope that the relative inexperience of a good portion of their lineup doesn't choke. With veterans like Kolzig, Fedorov, and Nylander in the room though, they should be fine... Caps in
eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted April 6, 2008 it should be the eight seed. still glad they're in though. If Philly loses, Caps would get sixth seed by points, after tiebreakers. Had the Canes won against Florida, Washington would still be in the playoffs, even if Philly wins today. For those of you bashing the Southeast and saying that they needed a guaranteed seed to make the playoffs...had Florida (A SE team) lost to Carolina as they did to Washington, the SE would have two teams in..Carolina at the 3rd seed and Washington at the 6th or 7th seed. HkyTwn 5 Report post Posted April 6, 2008 i could've swore this was the wings site whats up with all the caps fans all of a sudden.GO WINGS! I don't think there is anything wrong with having a favorite team or two in the East. Sure, this is a Wings site and we all love the Wings but I really love some other teams too which is why I am a part of several other forums. I think we can come together on more similarities than just loving the Wings. That being said, GO WINGS!

akustyk 84 Report post Posted April 6, 2008 Senators are a mess and if Caps did not run out of gas they'll steamroll Ottawa in 4-5 games. no, they're not a flat team. they have some decent talent other than AO and they have coach who made those youngsters a team. a team that plays with heart and balls. contrary to what some people think, Capitals are for real. they have strong offence, solid defense and goaltending from Huet who seems to be really hot coming into playoffs. honestly, do some of you really think the Blues of the East who are now a big mess without leadership, without vision and without faith - does this Senators look legit? sorry, they don't. if the season took 2 more weeks they'de be gone off the playoff picture

Actually, Caps would be fifth right now if the Divisionwinner-rule didn't exist, beating the Sens through their season series. Caps are definitely worthy of a playoff spot, thats for sure! I love it when people jump all over someone on the internet because they don't automatically agree with everyone in a thread. Yeah there are teams I don't like such as philly for their numerous cheap shots, or anaheim for their goon tactics. But the caps dont display those qualities, and i judge those teams for what they do on the ice, not what some asshat fans decide to do. Either way calm down, im not jumping all over you, i just thought it was funny you generalized your dislike for the organization because some guys yelled at you 4 years ago thats all. And I don't demand everyone jump on the caps bandwagon, and i have in no way shunned anyone who did not like the caps.
FinRedWing 172 Report post Posted April 6, 2008 Eastern Conference has really been exciting this year. Capitals have to be the story of the season with their great play under Boudreau. This will be remembered as AO's (regular) season. There's also: Montreal with a total team effort (only Kovalev being in the top 30 in scoring). Kostitsyn bros,Price etc. They've really done well. Who would've guessed before the season. And why not Pittsburgh too, with Malkin carrying the load and Conklin coming out of nowhere to play like a Vezina-candidate for a while.
