Hank 0 Report post Posted April 9, 2008 It doesn't make much sense from a financial standpoint, but there were rumors out of Buffalo that the Wings had a deal in place for Campbell at the deadline. I think the rumored deal was Kronwall for Campbell and Stafford. I just don't see how the Wings could fit in another $5+ million defenseman. He'd be redundant here...Stuart at least brings a physical element. I would have loved that deal! In regards to the Wings signing him in the summer, while I love what Campbell brings to the table, I'd rather have Stuart. We need to get bigger and more physical. We have enough small puck movers back there. Teams like Calgary would salivate at the thought of bearing down on guys like Rafalski, Campbell and Lebda. wingslogo19 281 Report post Posted April 10, 2008 No why were spending top dollars on a Dman when we have great D.. We need a 2nd line scorer
imisssergei 0 Report post Posted April 10, 2008 Agreed...Only thing Campbell has on Kronwall is health, but that could always change with a low hit to the knee Gotta shore-up the suspect 2nd line this summer. And a better point producing history over the last 3 seasons. A higher PPG average. More experience, both playoff and regular season. Yeah, that and health is all Campbell has over Kronwall. Reds4Life 51 Report post Posted April 10, 2008 if there was a choice between the two... anyone who would want stuart over campbell is crazy. Campbell's defensive abilities are average at best. We already have 3 great puck moving defensemen, we need some tough defensemen too. Stuart is better for us than Campbell.

Stuart is better for us than Campbell. Tough can be nice, but the point is anytime you have a chance to get an impact player like Campbell, you do it. Stuart is a career journeyman, who is at best equally as good on the defensive side of the puck as Campbell. And the Wings don't have 3 great puck moving dmen. They have 2 great puck moving dmen, in Raffy and Lidstrom, and 1 slightly better than average puck moving dman in Kronwall. I don't want to hear about what Kronwall could be due to his potential. We are talking about facts, not "might be's".

LeftWinger 5,152 Report post Posted April 10, 2008 If Campbell were to don the Winged Wheel - I'm guessing that other Dmen such as Stuart, & Lilja (possibly Chelios too ) won't be returning in order to save extra $$$...Also it'll hinder the amount of $$$ left over for any big ticket UFA forward. ...now you know better than to believe Holland when it comes to signing a big ticket UFA forward. Even though after their first round defeat, that is what he will be preaching. Besides, they have Hudler :puke: ...also, McCarty is back! They'll do something stupid like this, throw all their money into Campbell (whom they don't need) and then have just enough left over to sign Zetterberg before he becomes UFA 2009... Dominator2005 558 Report post Posted April 10, 2008 Why are we spending $5-7m for a guy who is older than Kronwall and no better? Why not use $4m to acquire the second liner, and save some major cash? No better than Kronwall - WOW Kronwall plays in average 47 games per year... and he's getting paid $3M for 47 games... Campbell is better than Kronwall no discussion here

We all know you hate the wings, Holland, the whole org. we got that when you, well you know what happened. The point is why are you here posting negative things all of the time still. If you are no longer a wings fan why on earth are you here to just post negative things. If you had joined here as a Sharks or whomever else fan and were shat talking like this people would be all over you. But since you "claimed" to be a wings fan, when you joined, people are lumping you in with the crowd of negative Nancys around that say the wings can't win because of this, that, and the other thing. The difference between you and the others, you no longer claim to be a wings fan, or are you again? I have a hard time keeping up with it, you switch sides more than Tia Tequila. We get it you hate the Wings now, you hate Hudler, you hate Sammy, you hate the moves that posters are predicting or anything Red Wing. Why, some of you may ask, I'll tell you why. All of this hatred is spawned from the fact that Holland didn't trade for Fedorov (within the division, because that happens so often for other teams ) and in your mind that was a capital offense. Move on go pollute some other board where the people don't mind you trashing the players, a team that mind you no matter who you choose did worse than the wings this year!!! Go root for the sharks, hell they were 2nd best after Det. Go root for Mon, hey O6 team, first in the East, oh but still not as good as Det. Go root for Pit, Young, talented up and comers, 2nd in the east, oh what is that you say they were worse than Det too. Hmmmmm, funny because when I go to LGW you would think that the Wings are the worst team with the worst group of players since the inception of Hockey. Enjoy the playoffs, and remember every win the wings get, will get you closer and closer to wanting to root for them again, but here I will be to point out that you BAILED on them, you turned in your RED WINGS Card remember. I sure as hell do!
Dominator2005 558 Report post Posted April 10, 2008 I don't see your logic. Wings consistently take the presidents trophy year after year... yet you complain that Kronner only plays 47 games a year? Who cares! We just need a healthy Kronner for around 20 games when it matters... post-season. here's to a heathly Kronner for 2008 Post-Season 1. President trophy isn't Stanley Cup - main goal in NHL is to win Stanley Cup and not President Trophy 2. One of the reason why we lost last season was = Schneider and Kronwall injuries... I hope you want your top 4 def to play full season and playoffs I wrote that Campbell is better def than Kronwall... why are you so mad?

I sure as hell do! ...yep, I remember all of that stuff and I still hope the Wings get booted in the first round so I can read all the other negative nancy's who keep their mouth shut all season long until they loose and when Holland lies again about changes. And to comment on your sig, I am the furthest from a bandwagon fan, I DID suffer through the 80's and oh yeah the 70's as well. I am a true Wings fan, one who can see the crap going on in upper managment. I am NOT a Ken Holland fan. I can ***** about the Wings all I want, I can ***** about players Holland aquires and doesn't aquire. And if you did read my comments about the NON Fedorov trade, I said I AM GLAD HE DIDN'T TRADE FILPULLA FOR FEDOROV!!! I also said I can't wait for Holland to land Feds as a UFA so he can play WITH Filpulla and wax Columbus everytime they play. Screw that GM for trying to rape the Wings. That still doesn't make me a Holland fan and that still doesn't make me believe that they will get out of the first round. No matter what happened at the deadline, he couldn't address the secondary scoring. It remains to be seen what he will do come July 1st. He will pontificate about changes that need to be made, then in typical Holland fashion, he'll sign Hasek for another $4MM and give Sammy and Lilja extended contracts and not be able to do anything else because he needs the money to save for Zetterberg and the NEXT off season... ...it just like saying that I am a proud American and am thankful for the men that died to establish this country, but what the world has turned into (mostly because of our Government) turns my stomach and makes me hate everything about our Government. That doesn't mean I don't love this land. I will always be a die-hard Wings fan, but will never be on board with Holland & crew. And THAT is what lead to someone saying turn in your card, because I ***** too much about Holland and the weak players he gets. So with that mindset, if someone told me that I either support EVERYTHING our Government does or hand in my ID, then where's the first plane outta here!?!? (unfortunately it's about to come down something similar to that in this country.) ...I just cannot wait to read the threads on here AFTER they lose in the first, or, if the Hockey Gods are so kind, to let them go to the finals and play Washington and let Fedorov s*** all over them!!! (I know, Holland WANTED Fedorov, but didn't want to give up Flips, and I applaude that) I hope Feds s***s all over them So I can watch all you guys who said he was washed up put your foot in your mouths... Opie 308 Report post Posted April 11, 2008 (edited) You do realize that you are no longer a die-hard wings fan, because you died really easy over a trade deadline deal (that while you wanted it to happen wasn't going to, and didn't) with your team still in first place. You previous posts supersede this one and you are in fact a Die-easy wings fan! I don't know what you were like when you were rooting for the team through the 70's, 80's, 90's all I do know is that you look to be a spoiled wings fan, who didn't have things go his way and bailed on a first place team, that happened to be leading the league in almost every team stat and has multiple players win individual awards (assuming Lids gets norris, Dats gets lady bing again) and stats. You are a walking contradiction, and comparing your loyalty to a country to rooting for a sports team is a disgrace to the people who live and die protecting this country. I would lay my life on the line for the US if I felt it was just. If (not sure how this would happen) my life depended on me never rooting for the wings again, I would stop rooting for the wings, no matter what the cause just or unjust. However I would not stop because: they have gone 6 years (5 seasons) without the cup, I don't like player A, they didn't sign or trade for a player I have a man crush on, or I don't like the front office people. If you don't want to read what I typed just read this part it sums it up You, leftwinger are in fact a die-easy wings fan, or in other words a fair weather fan! Your actions, not your words, show everyone on this forum as much. But if it helps you, away from the forum you can tell everyone you are a die hard wings fan and that you root for them. Because I am not sure I know of too many "DIE-HARD WINGS FANS" that would say this about their team: I just cannot wait to read the threads on here AFTER they lose in the first, or, if the Hockey Gods are so kind, to let them go to the finals and play Washington and let Fedorov s*** all over them!!! (I know, Holland WANTED Fedorov, but didn't want to give up Flips, and I applaude that) I hope Feds s***s all over them So I can watch all you guys who said he was washed up put your foot in your mouths... Especially after their team just finished the season as the best team in the NHL!! Edited April 11, 2008 by Opie
