So your saying because he didn't have any game losing penalties in the season, he won't have any in the playoffs

and if thats the case, then why didn't the wings win the cup the seince 2002. They have had great seasons, so were are the cups?

If this is a ******* belated April Fool's joke its in poor taste.

Seriously, did anyone else read this leap of logic here and A)not piss their pants in sheer laughter or B) cringe out of sheer terror at its utter stupidity?

Sorry "greatness", no more sugarcoating for you. You're speakin' crazy now.

You are the one saying he's going to take game losing penalties in the playoffs. All we're asking you to do is state what evidence you have to believe that. But you can't because their isn't any. All you keep saying is that its increased intensity so he'll probably take game losing penalties.

Do us all a favor, go speak to the other 15 coaches in the playoffs and spread your wisdom to them, see if they drop all of their fighters from their playoff rosters.

You started this ludicrous post with no evidence to support it yet you want us to provide evidence why we disagree with you?

Grow up and get smart. The lunacy of your thought process is literally starting to piss me off.

I DO NOT think Downey should play in the first game, he is to explosive and could take a bad penalty and loose the game

Your crazy, Downey has not taken a bad penalty all season. He has played great. Done the job he was ask to do and plays a very physical game which the playoffs are. He should be in and playing so he can crush some of there D-men into the boards and cause turnovers. I say play Downey !!!!!

Bravo  Downey doesn't hurt us when he's on the ice. He has played within his role, and he worked hard enough that they couldn't send him down. Injuries allowed him time to prove himself to Babcock and the Wings, which he has done well. I would prefer Downey right now over D Mac.

I agree !!!!

downey shows amazing restraint! he doesnt seem to just drop the gloves on a whim like some and sure he takes the odd roughing or goaltender interference penalty but that is more or less his job! the guy has done an excellent job for the wings and has been a good sport about being scratched. i want to see him in game 1 so he can play a few minutes and keep everyone calm out there. it'll be easier for our skill guys to play their game knowing downey is there even if he is on the bench.

I don't see a real reason why we should change the gameplan now.

Pulling Downey from the lineup (more than he was during the regular season) arguably puts our stars in a position where they have to worry about protecting themselves more or standing up for each other.

Downey doesn't seem to be a liability, and I think we need either him or McCarty in the lineup each night to bring a consistent physical presence.

They aren't liabilities, Downey hasn't been put in a playoff situation and has been known to fight, so he is

Is this some kind of a joke? Because if not, I can't follow your logic at all. Since Downey's a fighter that has proven he won't cost the Wings a game with stupid penalties means nothing because he's a fighter? Meanwhile, Abdelkader who has a history of getting LOTS of penalty minutes SHOULD play, even though he's a rookie? Wow!

Age doesn't matter. I have been brought up on hockey, i first held a stick at age 2, have watched the wings win their past 3 Stanley cups, and been to who knows how many games. I have studied the game, play advently, and i know a problem player when i see one, and Downey will cause problems for the wings

your only a couple of years older than me, so look who's talking

The difference between someone who is 15 and someone who is 17 is massive both physically and mentally.

Your proving yourself to be immature with this rambling thread which if all your posts were lined up one after the other you could win an award for hypocrisy.

Not really, any 15 could take a 17 in a mental or physical challenge, and this has nothing to do with the thread

Well your senseless posts in this thread are either due to

1) You dont watch hockey

or

2) Immaturity

Im now guessing both.

This thread has no basis in reality. Downey is going to play whether you agree or not, I'm skeptical that Babcock is going to pull him out the lineup based on the "threat" of him taking a bad penalty in the series.

IMHO Downey has shown a great deal of restraint and class during the games. He seems to know when to fight and when not to. With a physical team like Nashville they need to be shown that we will not let them walk over our key players as they have been doing all year. I also think McCarty should be played *and not only cause I have his jersey  * as he has a lot of playoff experience. I say just play them both! It's not gonna be too often that only 1 player is going to the box...they ususally make sure that they take someone with them! :P

And to those of you who say that McCarty hasn't shown anything since he's been back...he just started after a rib injury and, I believe, is saving himself for the playoffs....I think we're gonna see a different McCarty during the playoffs as I'm sure that he realizes that he might not have too many seasons left in him.

ok first:

second, i think babsy should try out mccarty first and see how he does, and make a decision after that. downey is my favourite wing, and i'd love nothing more than to see him out there. however, even though they can both bring the pain, d-mac also provides (theoretically, anyway) a bit more offence and a lot more experience. ideally, i'd like to see them both playing, but that's not gonna happen.

They should both play. NO HARTIGAN, this guy takes more penalties then Downey! If you watch the games you'd know this, I watched every game this year. Hartigan took ALOT of hooking penalties and a couple holding ones, Downey takes instigating and roughing penalties. He finishes checks, and he forechecks, and he protects the guys.

McCarty and Downey. No Hartigan. Case closed.

wow ... the arguments in this thread are seriously some of the most hilarious stuff i've read in a while ... downey has demonstrated outstanding timing this year, he's not a ticking time bomb just skating around waiting to go off ... we get some bad calls, but it's always interference or hooking, not instigating ... in my opinion, there's a good chance nashville (read: tootoo) is going to ocme out hitting and trying to set a physical tone right off the bat, and i can already see the bullseyes on hank and pavel ... in my opinion, based on everything we've seen thus far this year, downey is the best equipped player we've got to respond ... i say he plays ...
