stud_defenseman 1 Report post Posted April 11, 2008 I thought that the Sammy, Drapes and Hudler line played quite well tonight, from what I saw atleast. (I missed the first period and a bit because of TSN). They had a couple of quality scoring chances and it seemed like Draper was able to stabilize them quite well defensively. What I'm wondering was if this was the line they used most of the night, or were they just thrown together a few times. I thought it was nice to see Drapes put on a line with guys who can atleast score sometimes, I'd like to see him get a few clutch goals this post season. If that line keeps playing like they did I hope people will stop ragging on poor old sammy and hudler, but I'm sure one of them will go and f*** it up anyways. Cicada 4 Report post Posted April 11, 2008 it seemed to me to be very Bowmanesque last night... lines were all over the shop
58Miles2Joe 12 Report post Posted April 11, 2008 you'll never (er, almost never) hear me ***** about Sammy as a third-liner...it's when he's on the PP or top two lines...argh, makes me so mad !
Z and D for the C 712 Report post Posted April 11, 2008 I thought sammy played well being on the third line. Being on the PP point is just trash though.
Death2duder 0 Report post Posted April 11, 2008 Lines were all over the place as Babs was trying to counter Trotz on every shift. I really thought our 2nd and 3rd lines played great. I don't mean to take away from Hank and Pav but despite their two goals I thought the 1st line was the worst. Hasek faced the most pressure when line 1 was on the ice. There were 3 or 4 times when that line got caught in their own zone, dog-tired. I'm not trying to put down Hank, Pav and Holmer I just think that it speaks to how well everyone else played. My two cents...
wings_fanatic 677 Report post Posted April 11, 2008 I noticed that too, but only in the first period. In the first period, our first line just couldn't click, which led to Babs splitting them up until the second period. But, from the second period and on our first line was solid, nothing special though. I noticed Pavs and Z had a little trouble with doing their normal moves last night... but near the end of the game they looked much more comfitorable out there. Homer looked very good all game long, I thought- his timing was good, passing was good, had some nice opportunities, good net-front presence. And I liked the other lines as well... I think Babs should stick to them...

I think Babs should stick to them... I agree with pretty much everything that you said. Z and Dats settled in nicely. But, I think that Homer wasn't as good as we need him to be. I think his net-front presence wasn't all that great, but that may have been just because he didn't have all that many opportunities to set his ass up. I thought that whenever Drapes-Sammy-Huds were out there, they looked great. Sammy is a fine 3rd liner, Huds showed some upside, and Draper was all over the ice like its 10 years ago. I also liked the way that Drake played. However, I wouldn't mind seeing Downey in to replace Mac, becase as much as I love Mac, he's not as physical as we need him to be. Also, I wouldn't mind seeing Abdelkader or Helm in instead of Hartigan. I didn't hear Hartigan's name once in the commentary, good or bad. I think that Abra-Cadabra or Helm would bring a little bit more of that playoff energy that we need. All in all, I though it looked pretty good out there, but it could always be better. But, considering how we tend to play down to our opponents, I'm very happy that we took the 1st game. Go Wings!
gcom007 1,465 Report post Posted April 11, 2008 It was good to see Draper with some jump in his play after last years abysmal post-season. Everyone on our team stepped it up last year in the playoffs sans Draper in my opinion. Looks like he's intent on not letting that happen again.
Guest wingsin08 Report post Posted April 11, 2008 i definitely agree with everyone around here, if hes down on the 3rd then hes ok, he just doesnt have the talent or ability to play with the 1st or 2nd. that line looked great last night, draper had some great pokes at critical times, a great one during a preds oddman rush too
DeuxEx 0 Report post Posted April 11, 2008 I complain about Sammy a lot but only because he ends up on the second line and on the PP. He looked great on the third line with Draper and Hudler.
GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted April 11, 2008 Believe it or not, I thought Sammy looked shy out there when it came to shooting the puck. That line is undersized, though, so I see them potentially being pushed around out there.
Superman54 91 Report post Posted April 11, 2008 Sammy carried the puck with so much confidence last night, it was awesome to see
Majsheppard 203 Report post Posted April 11, 2008 Disagree, Samuelson was a negitive one. It also seemed that when they had the most pressure it was when that line was out. I just don't think they helped each other out enough out there. Maybe that is lack of chemistry. I think huds and draper, or draper and sammy can work. All three of them is really kinda a time-bomb waiting to go off. I do think Hudlers late-season goal made him more confident, kinda want to see him more with Darren. Babs must be having a blast right now.... all those combinations, none of which are bad.
Majsheppard 203 Report post Posted April 11, 2008 Sammy carried the puck with so much confidence last night, it was awesome to see That one shift where he brought the puck in and stickhandled all over the place reminded me of Yzerman. Of course Yzerman would put the biscuit in the basket....
Echolalia 2,961 Report post Posted April 11, 2008 Draper and Franzen played amazing last night. Everyone keeps saying that Hasek or McCarty will be the X factor, but if Franzen can keep this up, he could really give us the extra push to get the cup.
Opie 308 Report post Posted April 11, 2008 Echolalia, I really think Franzen is going to be a very good second liner before it is all said and done. I would like to see more of Cleary Flip Franzen
YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted April 11, 2008 I agree with the Franzen comments. I think he might end up being our Pisani of 06.
