Lidstrom Bashing

I'm at a loss for words. Ok, first, Lidstrom only missed 6 games, not a "good 10 games". Are you trying to question the durability of a player who has missed no more than 6 games in any of his 16 seasons (many of which are less than 2 or none at all)? Second, physicality is not a requirement for a hockey player. The fact that he is not physical does not make him any less of a player. Third, the poster you responded to said it was a "near elbow" and made no insinuation of it being a dirty hit, so your tangent on why Laperriere wasn't suspended is unfounded. Players have been injured on less physical hits and others haven't been on more physical ones. You are in no position to judge what any one hit can do to any player at any time.

The fact that no one can remember the last time he's been hit like that is a bad thing? It doesn't speak volumes about his ability to avoid checks like those yet remain in terrific position to defend?

Honestly, who cares if he is "robotic and mechanical"? He is highly efficient and that is all that really matters. About him playing on strong offensive teams that booster his numbers, take this into account. In the six games he missed, Zetterberg recorded 1G-2A-3P, +1. Datsyuk managed 6 points, but was minus 1. The Wings went 2-3-1 in his absence. He makes the players around him better; he is not merely a beneficiary of the team he plays on.

Please don't compare him to Zubov, his creativity is almost unmatched. You shouldn't compare him to anyone, for that matter, he is who he is.

The bottom line is that a player does not win the Norris Trophy 5 times by being overrated. It's fine for anyone to have an opinion of him being overrated (even though I feel it's unjustified), but your reasoning does not support it.

Wow, thanks for that link, I haven't laughed that hard in a long time :yowza:

I mean really, I could stumble into I-75 and catch an 18 wheeler to the face, by some miracle survive in the worst of all comas in recorded history, and I would STILL have more functional brain cells than that piece of work.

Reading the Stars' boards:

A) made me laugh because it reminded me oh so much of LGW

B) gave me a new found respect for Stars fans

Only one a-hole bashed Lidstrom/Hank...and rest surprisingly stood up for them hardcore. Star fans!

This guy needs to sort some stuff out. The other Stars members seemed to know that Lids is a great player and I thought that was classy. I also find it classy that they spanked the Ducks 4-0 in their own building :)

Guys, it's okay to question Dallas Fan's logic. It's normal. When I encounter this problem I try remember where in fact Dallas is located.

Here this map may serve useful to ya!

It just breeds irrational thinking.. :hehe:

My dad has never been terribly fond of Lidstrom. He's always found him too invisible - that said, his favourite player is Bobby Orr so I guess he'd probably consider virtually every d-man invisible by comparison

FWIW, Dallas hockey fans tend to understand the game just as well as "Northerns". Being stationed in Texas, and only getting to see games in Dallas, I have always been surprised that for the most part, Stars fans didn't give me crap about my Wings jersey and actually could talk intelligently about the sport. Most would say something like "Hey, Yzerman! He's awesome. Wish I got to see him one more time." Sure, they have a few idiots (like the dude bashing Lids) but, face it, so do we.

And oddly enough, youth hockey is MASSIVE in Dallas, thanks in no small part to Mikey Mo.

Yeah, Dallas has long been the exception to the "Southern Hockey Teams" rule. They know the game, they support their team and the sport, and if you look through their boards they're a lot like us. Got nothing but respect for them and their team.

at least one of them stuck up for Z.... I'll stick up and say Turco did great, coming out of the net to play the puck also helped shut down quite a few offensive opportunities for the Ducks, so at least Hasek isnt alone anymore when it comes to playing the puck (thank god)

I'm very aware of this, and I have no problem with southern fans anyways. I was simply making a stupid joke.
