russianswede919293 95 Report post Posted April 16, 2008 I'm not sure how I feel about this. Lebda's speedy...and that's it. I don't really see much of an offensive upside, unless they mean that his addition to the lineup will offend people. At least Lilja blocks shots, makes hits and plays relatively sound defense. Lately, our defense has been the problem compared to the offense. Agreed. Lilja has been pretty solid, with exception to a few really bad turnovers, but hell that is why he is 3rd pair...I like Lebda and all, I just don't see what he adds to the lineup right now... DaKineMaui 8 Report post Posted April 16, 2008 Lilja is the worst Red Wings defenseman since Anders Erickson. That said, if you could ALL do me one solid before the beatings begin - please please please watch, and take note of, how many times Lilly is chasing the play tonight? How many times is he at least a 1/2 step behind? Recovering, following, trying to keep up with the adults. Head turned the wrong way. Chasing chasing chasing. aloha
NeverForgetMac25 483 Report post Posted April 16, 2008 I'm gunna have to say I dont overlly like this either. I like Lilja. I'm hoping he is going to come out in game 5 angry and throw the body. But I want Stewart to start throwing some bombs as well. He threw one last game and it costs the Wings the tying goal. I'm all for laying a guy out, but not when it puts your team at a defensive risk.
Sergeiwasmyfav 0 Report post Posted April 16, 2008 I agree with most of the others who have posted in this thread so far: I don't think this is the best idea ever. I like Lebda, but I think Lilja does more for the defense overall. Yes, Lebda is faster, but that's about it. I would rather have Lilja's shot blocking and hitting than Lebda's speed at this point, but we shall see. Perhaps Lebda will do really well and surprise me; I hope so. I'm just not sure this was a good idea by Babs.

esteef 2,679 Report post Posted April 16, 2008 I'd rather keep Lilly in but Lebda will help the transition game with his speed. f*** it! I'm rooting for whoever is starting!!!!
edicius 3,269 Report post Posted April 16, 2008 And while Lebda may not be chasing the play, he'll probably be missing it entirely. I remember a lot of screaming over Lebda's missed defensive assignments (directly leading to goals) in the latter part of the season. Don't say we didn't warn you... Wings2818 0 Report post Posted April 16, 2008 One thing I have noticed in the series is the fact that we are struggling to break out of the zone. With Rafalski and Lidstrom on the backline it hasn't been much of a problem but it has been some of the other defensemen. I think Lebda will bring added speed and the Wings will break out of the zone a lot quicker and a lot easier.
DeuxEx 0 Report post Posted April 16, 2008 I don't really understand what Lebda is going to bring to the Wings tonight, I suppose they are looking to use his speed. I much prefer Lilja on the third pairing.
TheWestWing 71 Report post Posted April 16, 2008 Hey-zeus what is it with all this shot blocking love? Kinda scary that the main asset mentioned in here is that Pylon is good at getting horizontal (tho having a good, stable, less prone to softies, younger, OsGod goalie would be nice, but I guess that's another thread eh?). The boy can fly - is that what we need tonite? Well, IMHO we need someone who can get the damn puck outta the corners in our zone for starters. And then make one, just one pass outta the zone (just for tonite OK? Just to see if we can really do it). Pylon has not shown the tendency to execute either with much success. So let's see what Lebda can do - can't be any worse. Really. As always, your mileage may vary.....

As if we needed to get any softer, now we take out the PAIN TRAIN, and replace him with someone who looks like a schoolboy. Speed had nothing to do with our loss to Nashville. The Wings lost because of poor goaltending and an overall lack of concentration coupled with sitting back too much in the 3rd. Somehow that all amounts to Lilja needing to be scratched for Lebda. Good call Babcock.
redwingfan19 293 Report post Posted April 16, 2008 don't like this move at all. lebda will be manhandled all night and it will lead to turnovers...... rather have quincey or ericsson if PT is going to sit.........
barabbas16 499 Report post Posted April 16, 2008 I like this is because I think it will get Lilja on the top of his game when he plays again...and Lebda while he is playing for that matter. It's good to get Lebda in a game in case one of our D goes down later on...he have as huge a gap between actual games. I do like Lilja for us better though overall. Lilja can play PK....and he is often in on 5 on 3s. I can't see putting Lebda in during those situations nor can I see him in on the PP. Good move for this game, but unless Lebda has an awesome game....I fully hope and expect to see Lillypads back in game 5.

He hasn't been very physical, he was out og position allowing the 2 on 1 goal, and he screaned Dom on the game tying goal. Lebda doesn't seem to do anything, he's just kinda there. Stuart right now seems like a slightly better version of Cory Cross (god help us). However, he should definitely be in the top 6. If it comes down to Lilja and Lebda, I just don't understand why Lebda should be picked. And I'm tired of people talking about his speed. His speed might be useful in a video game, but in real life it amounts to nothing out there offensively. He's Rico Fata on defense. Also, his progression as a player has pretty much stopped. To me he's a valuable 7th or 8th defenseman, but that's where it stops.

FUUFNF 1 Report post Posted April 16, 2008 meh, if there ever was a good time to experiment with the lineup, it would be while we still have the lead in the series. maybe lebda's speed will help prevent another quick back-to-back nashville goal.

KDDRWINGS1 9 Report post Posted April 16, 2008 This is terrible. At the beginning of the season I would have rather played with 5 dmen instead of Lilja being out there but I can admit he's improved, Lebda hasn't. Lebda brings nothing and I'll never like him unless he scores a couple tonight and than it will only be for a few seconds cuz he sucks and needs to go. TRADE HIM so Babs can't make this mistake again. Other than that I would put Downey in for obvious reasons.
