hardcoretom21 71 Report post Posted April 17, 2008 Hey all, I don't know if this belongs in a thread on its own, but I was wondering, how come the Wings ALWAYS meet a hot goalie in the playoffs? Why does it seem like they are the ones making that goalie hot? and, why can't the Wings get a goalie who steals games? BY THE WAY, I know that nonetheless, Hasek (and Ozzie) have been very good in nets these series.. It was a couple of bad bounces, FOR THE MOST PART
OsGOD 3 Report post Posted April 17, 2008 Ozzie has in fact been 100% SUPERB... its okay you say it... its true... good is an understatement!
NeverForgetMac25 483 Report post Posted April 17, 2008 Because the Wings MO is to get shots on net from all angles in hopes of getting a rebound. Sometimes it works, but more often than not any goalie will cast those shots aside, thus inflating their numbers. It's just the way the Wings try to score their goals. It was a couple of bad bounces, FOR THE MOST PART i sort of wonder the same thing. detroit is a team that shoots more than probably any other team in the league and i wonder if just constantly throwing the puck on net and giving the opposing goalie a few easy pucks to stop each game is giving them some confidence? rick zombo 3,739 Report post Posted April 17, 2008 Ellis isn't HOT. He's allowing, on average, 3 goals a game.
VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted April 17, 2008 Ellis isn't HOT. He's allowing, on average, 3 goals a game. Osgood will be our "hot" goalie. He's our secret weapon and this series is going back to the Wings' favor. Not to mentino half of the shots against Ellis are from players like Filpulla and Samuellson who for some reason never have control of the puck when they shoot. Osgood4President 8 Report post Posted April 17, 2008 I wouldn't necessarily say Ellis is hot. I agree that the Wings shoot to get rebounds, and Ellis has been kind enough to give some nice ones to us. When we start finishing on all of his juicy rebounds, nobody will be calling him hot. Jamaica Jon 1 Report post Posted April 17, 2008 I have honestly not been as impressed with Dan Ellis as most people, especially the media have been. He's been good, but I thought Osgood outplayed him tonight, and Hasek outplayed him by FAR in the first 8 periods of this series. I also thought Roloson wasn't 'hot' in '06. I definitely think the Wings poor play made him look a lot better than he was playing. A majority of their shots were from terrible angles. The Oilers did a great job of keeping our forwards outside, so we were just settling for shots from out there. Most people in the media were pointing to the number of shots he saved and saying he was stealing the series, but honestly... in terms of stopping a lot of actual SCORING CHANCES he wasn't "amazing" by any means. HOT goalies would be: Giguere who DOMINATED us in '03 and Kiprusoff who stole the series (shutouts in Game 5&6) in '04. Ellis and Roloson do not compare to those guys AT ALL. So to answer your question (sort of) the Wings made Roloson look hot, and I think the media is making Ellis look hot.
Datsyukian Geek 2 Report post Posted April 17, 2008 (edited) All I know is, when Osgood went in, pucks stopped magically bulletting off our players' asses and into the net. Deflections seemed to disappear and pucks stopped going in, so for me it's Osgood in until this new trend stops. He's been good enough so far, but we've seen he can be rattled, too. Ozzie for the win! Edited April 17, 2008 by VM1138
GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted April 17, 2008 Ellis sucks. He's given up bad goals and too many rebounds. The only problem is that our goalie sucked even more. For once we can't make excuses of the other goalie standing on his head.
Firehawk 305 Report post Posted April 17, 2008 Yeah i don't think Ellis looks unbeatable whatsoever. He's giving up major rebounds. In my opinion he still looks nervous and shakey most of the time. It's the lack of effort/pressure on Detroit's part and Nashville clearing the pucks out that has saved Ellis' ass several times. Roloson and Giguere got 'hot', even though I'd still argue we fired everything right at Giguere's chest. But Ellis still looks shakey and very beatable to me. Echolalia 2,961 Report post Posted April 17, 2008 Elis isn't a solid goalie. He isn't enough for the Preds to make a deep cup run, at least. He gives up huge rebounds, and can't be relied on to steal a series (or a game); he's only the last line of defense, nothing more. The Wings need to be more aggressive in front of the net if we are to capitalize on these flaws, though. All our rebounds are bouncing to their cluster of defense, and we aren't getting clean shots from the point. We need to work on that along with keeping them from feeding off momentum. OsGOD 3 Report post Posted April 17, 2008 Dan may not be "that" good but he did manage to nab third star twice in 4 games (once on the losing end)
umredwing11 2 Report post Posted April 17, 2008 Yea, I definitely wouldn't say he is "hot." as in hot like Roloson in the playoffs a few years back. We know we can get pucks by Ellis, we just need to create more traffic and shoot the puck more. Cutsy goals are great, but not right now.
Z and D for the C 712 Report post Posted April 17, 2008 Ozzie has in fact been 100% SUPERB He was in net about 30 minutes...and faced about 10 shots. :| Not that I'm saying anything bad about him, but to call him the jesus of the playoffs is a bit early. OsGOD 3 Report post Posted April 17, 2008 He was in net about 30 minutes...and faced about 10 shots. :| Not that I'm saying anything bad about him, but to call him the jesus of the playoffs is a bit early. he made more saves on less shots with the same exact team shooting on him and defending for him... to say both goalies played good... is silly.....especially when one gave up 3 in less time in net. Granted it was only 3 less but after game 3 when know just how much damage can be done in those precious 3mins, no? that is all...
Z and D for the C 712 Report post Posted April 17, 2008 (edited) I didn't say that both played good. I'm just saying you're way over exaggerating osgood's performance. He was in half a game, wait a little more before you instruct league officials to give him the Conn Smythe. I dream that one day people will realize I'm only saying...exactly what I'm saying (and not anything else). I never said you did... i was referring back to my original post where i was commenting on Ozzie has been 100% perfect in this series so far... A 100% is a 100% no matter how you slice it.... its perfection. GO OZZIE!
DeuxEx 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2008 I don't think Ellis is playing hot or even very good. The Wings just haven't been capitalizing on the huge rebounds he leaves.
Jedi 1,865 Report post Posted April 17, 2008 Ellis left quite a few rebounds for the Wings during game 4. Now, had we only had more than one Wing forchecking, and we might have been able to convert on more than we did...
