vladdy16 2,154 Report post Posted April 19, 2008 Ellis is not hot IMO - the Wings shoot the puck at him. He barely has to move. I think in spite of the loss that Nashville's got some serious confidence going on now. They made a game of it and took us to OT. We need to win the next game resoundingly, not by the skin of our teeth.

You aren't going to score on him or any goalie by constantly shooting the puck into his chest.

He's hot enough. But he's giving up juicy rebounds all series and the Wings only really capitalized on them in game 2. Nashville might have gained confidence, but they might also be deflated to lose that game in OT. The Wings need to come out with the same effort tomorrow but do a better job finishing and pouncing on rebounds.
HockeyCrazy3033 168 Report post Posted April 19, 2008 (edited) Anyone else feel better about us winning tomorrow due to the game being at 3? Kinda weird, but I much prefer the early games against teams like the Preds, Flames, Sharks, etc.. because we always seem to lose the ones at 9 or 10. Third Man In 2,091 Report post Posted April 19, 2008 "They brought their very best game. We took it," Ellis said. "We didn't play nearly our best hockey. There's a long way we can go from what we did tonight. When you can look at it that way, that's one of the key positives you can take." Not quite, Ellis. But go ahead and believe that if you wish. The Wings played very, very well. But the Wings' very best involves burying opportunities that no goalie can stop. The Preds can play better, but so can the Wings. Let's hope the Wings do bring Ellis their very best on Sunday.
Matt 1,049 Report post Posted April 19, 2008 Finally back around. For the lack of the "3" right after the game -- sorry. I was busy romping around the upper bowl giving random high-fives and making sure my vocal cords were shredded. That said, bullets: - I never really had any doubts that the Wings would win the game. Nashville did nothing 5-on-5 all night -- and even on PP chances -- through regulation and I as 100% confident that if they played the OT the way they did the first 60 minutes that they'd get the OT winner. I didn't expect it that fast, however. - The power play MUST get better. It looked better for long stretches in the game (very active movement, rather than the more passive one we've seen lately) but still didn't capitalize. - MUST FORECHECK. Nashville can't handle it. Enough said. I can't even begin to count the amount of turnovers that happened when the Wings would forecheck last night. - Filppula was one of the Wings' top 3 forwards. Great to see because of his struggles through the first four games. I wonder if one of the coaches had a talk with him, because he was everywhere last night -- attacking the zone, great defensively (see: Franzen GWer) and was extremely aggressive in the faceoff circle. He's pretty streaky so let's hope the goal is a good sign. - Speaking of the goal... I'm shocked they reviewed it. My seats were just a couple rows down right in front of where Ken & Mick are in te booth and even from that vantage point there was no doubt that was a goal. - IMO, winning a game in this fashion (OT, rather than a 1-0 shutout) probably does more for Detroit, IMO. The Predators did hang around but if Detroit puts this same effort forward in Nashville I find it extremely hard to believe that Ellis has another 40-50 save circus act to fall back upon. That said -- Nashville stayed within one shot of tying and did it -- big boost for them.... Only to have it slammed shut less than two minutes into the OT. This series is no way, shape or form over. The health status of both Arnott and Legwand will be a big factor for Game 6, but if the Red Wings show this same level of tenacity and can get some results on the power play I think we'll be able to close this out tomorrow. Here's to hoping. Oh! Before I forget: How did the Joe sound last night? It was incredibly loud inside there last night...

redwingschick33 0 Report post Posted April 19, 2008 My dad sat in the second row by the zamboni tunnel for last night's game and took some great photos with his nice camera. Here a couple of my favorites below and you can view the rest here. The photos at the link are bigger. I shrunk the size for the photos below so they didn't take up too much space. GO WINGS!! Let's hope the Wings do bring Ellis their very best on Sunday. The preds were dominated last night but thanks to Ellis, they were able to hang around and tie the game in the final seconds. Less than 2 minutes into overtime the Wings slammed the door shut on them. I don't know how they can gain anything positive from that except that they have a goalie that played a great game. I gotta believe that they are thinking that they have no chance to survive an onslaught like that twice in a row. Eventually Ellis will let some in and then they are done. I don't see how they can be feeling good about their chances at this point. I think that they thought that they had a chance when it became apparent that Hasek was beatable but then we switched to Ozzie who has given up a total of 1 goal in 4+ periods. That certainly has to hurt their confidence. They probably will get Arnott back for game 6 and maybe Legwand and they will be home but I got to believe that they have this little voice in the back of their minds that keeps telling them that they are severly overmatched. I can't wait for game 6 to start.
HockeyCrazy3033 168 Report post Posted April 19, 2008 Oh! Before I forget: How did the Joe sound last night? It was incredibly loud inside there last night... That's the thing. When you're at the game it's insanely loud. When you see/hear it on TV it's nowhere near the same. There were so many times last night where the FSN feed mic's were somehow getting blocked and you'd hear absolutely nothing except for Ken & Mickey. And that's why those that aren't Wings fans claim that we are quiet and don't get into games much. If only they were at the games live they'd know much better than that.
