NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Chris Osgood allowed just one goal to the Predators after joining the series in progress, and that's going to lead to him starting the next series.

Osgood made 20 saves Sunday to shut down Nashville, 3-0, and clinch the series in Game 6. Osgood took over midway through Game 4 after a poor stretch by Dominik Hasek, who has been relegated to backup status.

"I thought goaltending was a big difference," coach Mike Babcock said. "Dom would tell you he was really good in Game 2, he got us the win in Game 2, but the puck didn't hit him as good here in Nashville. So when Ozzie came in, it gives you a change and it gives you a boost, and he's done a good job.

"Ozzie's obviously got the net right now, and it's his job to make sure Dom doesn't get back in it. But Dom's going to do everything he can to be ready."

So will Osgood. He knew coming into the season that he'd back up Hasek, so he stayed sharp through every practice and never complained. When Babcock went to him, Osgood couldn't have been readier.

"When Babs called me, I just went and played, because I didn't have any other thought in my head other than that I feel good and confident and am going to play well," Osgood said. "It was great to get a chance to play."

More relaxed than Hasek on and off the ice, Osgood's calmness spread to his teammates.

"He looks real relaxed in net, and I think it gives the whole team confidence and comfort, too," captain Nicklas Lidstrom said. "He doesn't seem to get rattled. Even when he came in in the game here, Game 4, he played real well."

I'm glad Babs answered this early, now we wont get 4000 threads on it.

Possibly the smartest coaching move Babs has made all season in terms of goaltending. I dont care who you are or how few games you play, how many shots you face, etc. It is DAMN hard to only let in 1 gol in 2.5 games worth of playoff hockey.

This is shaping up to be a storybook playoff run, with Mac and Osgood having stand-up roles in this run..

glad to hear this, though i kind of just assumed that ozzie would get it. he def looks calm and in control out there, and i love the fact that he doesn't snow angle everytime the puck is loose in front of him.

good thing there are two game 7's this week or i'd be bored outta my mind!

(begin hi-jacking of thread)

I'm getting a little ahead of myself here, but if Osgood wins another 34.5 lb, shiny, silver chalace, and gets to 400 wins by the end of his career, it will make for an interesting HOF debate...

(end hi-jacking of thread)

I agree, if he wasn't relegated to a back up role or playing for an average to cellar dweeling team (Isles), he would damn near be in the top 10 in all time wins. All of the top 10 in wins are either in the HOF or not eligible yet. I think he deserves it when he retires.

Everyone would say "he played on great Wings teams". Well, Brodeur, Roy and others played on great teams.

OZZIE!OZZIE!OZZIE!OZZIE!OZZIE!OZZIE!OZZIE!

Ok, now that I have that out of the way. This is an amazing decision. No offence to dom or anything... :lookaround: , but the team rallied around Ozzie, and so did the fans. It was so loud when I was at game 5, it was amazing. In my opinion ozzie earned enough to start the playoffs this year, but I understand why babs had to start dom. That whole loyalty/age/lastyearhopefully thing.

Anyways, KEEP IT UP OZZIE!!! Your playing amazing. Keep 'em stonewalled baby!
