On Ice Sounds Drowning Out Announcers?

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

Is it just me or my TV?

Im finding that I had to turn the volume up more than usual to hear the announcers both on TSN and NBC for Game 2.

The on ice sounds are there so when the volume goes up to hear the announcers at a respectable level the skating, sound from the boards and puck contact go way beyond what I'd like to hear.

Now I know what your saying why would you want to hear those guys anyway!

It did seem "mixed" differently yesterday.

Personally, i would rather hear the sounds of the game versus the announcers anyway. I do like the commentary of Emrich, but Olcyk gets on my nerves.............. the way our boys were flying yesterday, they would have matched the music of motown like a glove !

Dave Strader should be doing these games for NBC. Hes the best in the business.

Yeah , every week I hope to hear good ol' Dave on NBC and every week I am totally disappointed. I miss Dave and Mickey they were the best. Although I am happy with the current duo of Mickey and Ken. :) NBC, Please let Dave Strader and Darren Pang do our games!!

Anybody listening with a 5.1 system can just unplug the center speaker (at least when they're on NBC), and it's like you're sitting in the Joe. Every once in a while you'll see Emerick or McGuire talking and you won't hear anything, and if you're like me that'll make you smile.

I had that as well,

when versus is on does anybody have a problem with the volume of their voices rising and falling during the boradcast? I'm constantly adjusting the volume during VS games because of this, been that way throughout the PO's.

I began to notice this last year in the playoffs. It's not just your TV :P

Odd that this thread came up.

Me and my bro-in-law watched a Ducks game this season (vs. who I forget), and the broadcast had some kinda failure.

For the 3rd period there was NOTHING but the ice-level audio.

It................ was................... tremendous.

If I could subscribe to a PPV channel for that kinda coverage I'd pay $1000/yr.

It was like playing again. Unreal stuff. I shoulda TIVO'd it.

aloha

EDIT::::::::

When I say 'playing again' I don't mean like 'me'. I fall down a lot and yell. My brother-in-law is the skater.

mixing the game sound properly is one thing thta CBC does right...

I find that I can't stand watching the american feeds usually for two reasons:

1) the main action following camera is zoomed out too far (so they can see the entire defensive zone from the end boards to the blue line)

and

2) the game sound is really withdrawn to make the commentary easy

I feel that both of these really take away from the intensity of the game. On the first point it makes things too hard too see and you feel like you're in the nose bleeds... it's a bit more work for the camera man and there is more on screen motion/panning, but it really gets the viewer into a more involved position

On the second point, regardless of who the commentators are (annoying or not), not having enough game sound really makes things seem dull even in a good game. They're basically bringing down the tempo of the game to the lackluster performance of the announcers. Having the elevated game sound forces these guys to be a bit more excited and engaged with the game rather than those guys that just drift off from the action to talk about some loser celebrity that's in the audience in a monotonous unenthusiastic voice. I usually don't enjoy much of what the announcers have to say regardless, but they really can influence the tone of the game for the at home viewer.
