Wilson blows a gasket: bashes TSN, Canada

So Ron's babies are down 2-0 in the series with Dallas and a TSN commentator asks Ron if "more is needed out of your captain is this series". A fair question as Marleau has gone 4 straight games without a point and hasn't contributed much of anything so far in the Dallas series at all. Instead of giving his captain a vote of confidence with something like "Patty's been super on the defensive side of the puck", or "Patty has been a tremendous leader all year and we know he's working hard and the goals will come", Ron decides to blow up at the poor commentator (who's only asking what every Shark fan is thinking I'm sure) and yell "It's always negative, that's TSN for you, that's Canada for you!!" as he storms off camera and cuts the interview rather short.

What made it a little funny is that as he storms off he tries to go back into the dressing room, only to find it locked, lol. So he has to stand there fuming while some security guy fumbles with keys to let the haughty princess back into her castle.

I don't care what the score or outcome; I've never seen Babcockles lose his composure with the media. I haven't seen every post gamer he's done, but i've seen plenty. This gives me the indication that Babs can control his emotions and put things in perspective; this is the sign of a good coach as far as I'm concerned. What can Patty be thinking after he sees that clip, "so i'm a "negative" now?". I think Ron's an ass, Patty IS an underachiever so far, and the Goldfish will be out in 6.

I think the media always asks stupid questions and I like when the person being asks goes off on them (I remember when Lloyd Carr made a reports look like an ass while heading to the locker room before halftime). But a question about Marleau is definitely warranted. He's been non-existent.

Wilson's ALWAYS been a d-bag though. I'm sure a lot of you recall "Hanta-Yo!" from the '98 highlight DVD when he was coaching the Caps. I see he now has a toilet seat over the locker room door for the Sharks. Major ******.

Which is why I can't understand why Joe Thornton resigned there. He doesn't have to put up with that kind of s***

He likes the sunshine and the fact that nobody in the state knows who he is or cares how badly he chokes in the playoffs. Boston was a pressure cooker compared to SOCAL and I think he was so glad to get out of there that he would have resigned on the moon if it meant that the local media and fans would just leave him alone and focus on surfers and beach volleyball players instead.

Wilson sucks. He is not very good coach. But Marleau is really poor leader. Pathetic really.

What I don't understand is why the Sharks didn't deal him for somebody, anybody, at the deadline. I would have given the "C" to Clowe and let Joe off the hook by letting him keep his "A". I think Clowe would make a better captain than Marleau and you really can't strip Marleau of it without creating bad karma in the room so you trade him and get a decent scorer back and fix your leadership issue at the same time.

Not to nitpick, but San Jose is in northern california, not southern. No surfers, no volleyball. They've got beaches, but no one in their right mind wants to see 'em.

I understand your point, but there are alot of teams in non-hockey markets where the coach isn't a complete tool shed.

This actually happened BEFORE game 2 started, not after.

The Sharks are done just like last year, and the year before, and the year before....

This time though, Ron Wilson will be fired like he should have been last year. WIth the talent that they have had the last 4 years or so, they should have had at least a trip to the finals.

Poor coaching, poor leadership, just an overall poor organization. It's a shame beacause they have some very talented players like Nabokov, Thorton, Cheechoo.....

I agree Marleau needs to go.

He's an absolute shocker. His playoff performances are pathetic and he isn't a leaders *******. Wilson couldn't sit there and say his captain's defensive side is okay because it's not. He can't say his effort is adequate because it's not. Patrick Marleau is supposed to be their captain and he jumps while blocking a shot??? What the f***? What is wrong with this guy? That cost them game 1 and he hasn't even looked desperate to make it up. He should be willing to die to win the Cup! Every other guy out there is. He consistently makes mistakes and forgets fundamentals like a rookie. I just can't understand it because sometimes he's great. But sometimes is just unacceptable from your captain.

I could keep going but I'm gonna stop now. I had to vent. For some reason Pathetic Pat really frustrates me a lot to the point of rage.

Thank God he is not in D-town.

I remember an interview with Wilson prior to the start of the second round. He not only pretty much picked his team to win it all, but also named the Conn Smyth trophy winner. I was thinking ' Man this guy either has balls of steel or no freakin' clue. I see it's the latter............To bad for the Sharkies, they do have allot of talent........Series isn't over, but it don't look good for 'em.

Joe T should be the C for the sharks.

Strip Marleau of the C, don't even give him the A, if he wants to cry about it, show him his recent playoff highlight reel, the double flamingo, lack of points, what looks like a lack of heart, and then say to him, show me you deserve a letter besides L on your jersey and we will see what we can do for you.

 Lloyd Carr would make the reporters seem like idiots quite often at halftime. He'd just give these smartass answers and they'd shut up.

But anyway, didn't Wilson pretty much call Marleau out after game 1 anyway? Saying something about not jumping out of the way of shots.

If that was me, "well coach, obviously today was a good day to lose. Will you ever have a good day to win?"

 haha

I think Ron Wilson has been thinking himself that he couldn't get much out of player and somehow it has been somewhat of his complex.

So when a reporter asked 'if more is needed out of your captain' at wrong time... well let's just say I think he read too much between the lines.

IMO Ron Wilson is one of the best assistant coach in business. I think he is pretty good with X and O. However, as we know already, he is not a good head coach. Hantayo? give me a break oh and by the way thanks for the Cup in 98.

As for TSN, I don't know if they are negative but I can tell you they are bias for sure, Especially against Red Wings. If you've been watching TSN this is nothing new but this is getting worse to an unreasonable level.

For example, I was watching the intermission show of game 2 against Avs and they were talking about whether the poor ice condition has been a factor in playoff so far. They played 2 clips and they were Nick's bounce in Nashvile series and Ozzie's clutch save in game 1 against Avs (they were saying how Avs couldn't tie the game because of poor ice ) One of the panel member (I believe it was Pang) said 'you really don't like Wings do you' and host Duthie replied to a tune of 'will you let me do what I do' or something like that. (no I'm not making this up)

Does anyone have a link to the video of Wilson bashing TSN?

it's on tsn.ca front page, click the highlights of the dallas/sharks game. however they beeped out any comments about tsn or canada as he's walking away from the interview.

There were a lot of people giving him crap for that right after that game, then the coach came down on him hard about, then yesterday the VS clown's were saying it wasn't that bad, it wasn't the best way to go about it, blah blah when two days before they were chastising the guy for his double flamingo!

Marleau jumping out of the way of that Modano shot in Game 1 was completely unacceptable. You will never win with your captain playing like that. Ever.

The most hilarious part about it was the Vs. broadcasters when it happened. Right after it happened, when they showed it slo-mo from that backside angle where you can clearly see the double-flamingo, they actually said "he's not trying to avoid the shot, he's just trying to make himself big." I remember thinking "Big? There shouldn't ever really be a need to 'make yourself big' on a shot block by jumping. I'm pretty sure if the puck was going to go over his head, it wouldn't be going in the 4' high net anyway."

I had to wait until our game on NBC (of all places) the next day before I could listen to broadcasters ripping Patty a new one.
