Ozzie, we can rebuild him.

I think that he has always been great, he just didn't have a team that was just as good.

Are you referring to the very beginning of his career, because the team he had in front of him in '98 is quite comparable to the one he has now. That's absolutely no knock on Ozzie, because he has always been very good. The way he's been playing the past couple years....he's been great.

This is why I've been more or less an Osgood supporter throughout most of the season. I was a little wary of both goalies February-March, but in retrospect, we did have the Griffins on defense which doesn't really help. I've seen hints of this since he returned to the Wings but until Hasek went down, he hasn't really had a chance to really show it. It's a situation almost similar to Franzen. Hints of brilliance here and there but no stage to really show it off. Now that they've got their chance, they're making waves.

You've gotta pay a bit of extra respect to his Sv. % as well because the reality of the matter is that Detroit doesn't give up a ton of shots and when they do give up shots, the opposing teams have to work pretty hard to generate legitimate scoring chances. He doesn't get 10 or so extra soft shots a game to pad his numbers like most goalies. You could say the strong D helps the numbers and that's certainly the case with GAA, but again, with Sv. %, you've gotta look at the fact that opposing teams have to make great plays to get shots which puts him on the spot more. But he's so strong positionally most of the time that he's right there to take care of business. GAA can lie about a goalie, Sv. %, not so much...

Unless you're the goalie facing Detroit. :P

My wife and I have always been Ozzie supporters. We loved him back in the day, and we love him now. She wears her #30 jersey with pride.

He was always smart and competitive, now he's confident, tempered by age and humility that is, frankly, inspiring.

Ozzie rules, he can retire in Detroit, I'd be happy with that.

Good article, movement is the main reason why Osgood made that game-saving save with 8 seconds to go, he could not have done a better job anticipating that shot and getting over.

Too bad he didn't do this years ago...

I think he did it at about the right time, his "style" wasn't really that outdated until a couple of years ago. Plus he had the lockout to rework his game, it might be hard to do mid-season or in one off-season :)
