Cern 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2008 I have the same problem here in Jersey. It's either, "Oh, hockey's still going on?" or "How are the Flyers doing?" while I'm wearing my friggin' WINGS jersey...I don't get why it's ALWAYS confused for a Flyers jersey around here. Even my orthodontist did it yesterday (while his assistants corrected his grievous error even before I was able to...I like them! ). That's nothing. I have a friend who dosen't follow hockey at all, he thought I was wearing a Flames jersey.
WiNgSowN 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2008 ahh the Mobile Mysticks or as we used to call them the Mystakes. Good to hear some local folks on here. There is one thing that is universal no matter where we are. Forsberg and the rest of the Av's suck. Haha Yeah they weren't the greatest but they had a couple good years I went to a bunch of Sea Wolves games lol
Datsyerberger 279 Report post Posted May 1, 2008 Panama City, Florida, here (Northwest Florida, Gulf Coast). Besides the occasional snowbird here, most people don't even have any idea of what hockey is, much less the teams or anything.
Texas Wingnut 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2008 (edited) Panama City, Florida, here (Northwest Florida, Gulf Coast). Besides the occasional snowbird here, most people don't even have any idea of what hockey is, much less the teams or anything. South Texas isn't exactly a hockey hot spot, but at least there is some interest. It's surprising how many different jerseys I've seen here in San Antonio. egroen 384 Report post Posted May 1, 2008 Interesting that you southern fans actually get to choose your hockey teams. That must be kinda nice, actually. For the most part, we are born into them and are simply fortunate the Red Wings have been run so well for so long. Though many of us sat and suffered through the Dead Things era as well - that sucked to be born into!
va Winger 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2008 I can totally relate. Living in Virginia for 20 some years. Thank God for the internet and sites like this. I too suffer the daily news and chatter about this race and that. If I want to talk Hockey, I either come on here or call and talk to friends back home in Detroit. Thankfully NHL center ice versus and the NHL channel are all available. My wife knows that this time of year she becomes a "hockey widow". Looking forward to another late night tonight with a 1000pm start time......................

selkie 10 Report post Posted May 1, 2008 I have lived in the New Orleans area all my life minus five years in college in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. A few weeks ago I moved a little north of the city closer to my job to the town you see on my little mini profile below the Swedish Chef. I miss the New Orleans Brass. And the Louisiana IceGators, blatant and total consistent disregard of the ECHL salary cap and all.

RedFX 48 Report post Posted May 1, 2008 (edited) I think its because people that go to the event or watch it on TV are too drunk to understand what the hell is actually on. Nascar is the lamest excuse of a sport there is. When you get to know some of the people down here, you're not suprised that watching a bunch of shiny cars go around in circles would fascinate them. Inultus 12 Report post Posted May 1, 2008 I think its because people that go to the event or watch it on TV are too drunk to understand what the hell is actually on. Nascar is the lamest excuse of a sport there is. Nascar's roots are in running moonshine. If the races were set up like shine runners, i.e. running on the back roads, some paved, some not, hairpin turns, doing jumps and such, running from cops, then I think the sport would be great. As it is, it sucks. The girl I know who is most into Nascar goes to races soley to get s***faced and cheat on her husband. She also looks like a monkey and has 4 kids. Nuff said.
