96warrior 11 Report post Posted May 1, 2008 http://redwingscorner.blogspot.com/ Forsberg out for Game 4 Colorado coach Joel Quenneville just announced that Peter Forsberg and Ryan Smyth will not be in the lineup for tonight's Game 4. With Paul Stastny also out, the Avalanche will dress seven defensemen. That means they'll skate three forward lines, rotating two extra forwards in. "We realized (Forsberg) had health issues when he came here," said Quenneville.

I can't bring myself to cheer for the Wings tonight knowing that the divealanche are undermanned like this. It's just not fair I tell you.

vladdy16 2,154 Report post Posted May 1, 2008 I am eternally grateful we didn't actively persue him or he refused our advances, whatever the case may be (Thank you, hockey gods!), but I have to admit that the Avs definitely play better with him in the lineup for whatever reason. If Wings win tonight, this series will have an asterisk next to it because of the laundry list of injuries Colorado is suffering right now.
Wingsor 2 Report post Posted May 1, 2008 Nice deadline acquisition, Avs. Imagine if we had wasted time on him. Yeesh. strange how both Forsberg and Lindros, who were both traded as rookies from Quebec to Philly, and Philly to Quebec....both ended up so injury prone over their entire careers, yet they were so heavily anticipated and marketed. Anaheim's series against Detroit last year should have an asterisk next to it too, in that case. It sucks but those are the breaks of the game.

Its just how it works sometimes....but Pavel and Hank have played with injuries during playoff series', and there aren't asterisks next to those. Screw the Avs, they've made bad personnel and coaching moves, players were hurt at inopportune moments, and the Wings did what you have to do with a wounded opponent, and that is dominate them. No asterisk necessary.

Forsberg had much more success imo. But recently he's had major issues. I'm glad the Wings didn't land him. The Wings better take care of things tonight when they are down 3 big name players like that.

No asterisk necessary. They starting making dumb moves, I thought, way back when they kept trading away so many guys for Bourque and Blake and Kasperitis. Trading Drury for Derek Morris? I know Drury might not be there now but that was a dumb move. And I love how so many people kept saying the Wings were old and everything and wouldn't make it post lockout and they have made a nice transition to a little younger of a team and a team well under the cap. Unlike the Rangers who were at the cap and will probably be swept tonight. Now I hope they can get out of the WCF's this year.
gcom007 1,465 Report post Posted May 1, 2008 Nice deadline acquisition, Avs. Imagine if we had wasted time on him. Yeesh. The thing is though, we had/have the cap space and we have plenty of depth to afford the gamble. He would kinda be like a side-gig. Think like a businessman who happens to be a great musician too. He's got his 9-5 and it's more than enough money, but he's got the music gigs at night every now and again and the money he makes there is just a bonus. If it slows down, no deal, he's still got the 9-5 to get by. I'm not saying that I'm upset we didn't get him, but it wouldn't have been the blow to us as it is to a team that doesn't have as much depth.

My thoughts exactly. Injuries are part of the game. We're taking advantage of the Avs' injuries this year. Anaheim did the same with us last year. No asterisks necessary. Those are the breaks when it comes in the playoffs. If people want to look at it that way, what's to stop them (aside from Chris Chelios--BTW, where has sirdrake been?) from saying that about the Wings-Ducks series last year minus 2 of their top 3 defensemen? Yeah, we've disagreed a lot lately and I've been ignoring you intentionally after your claim Forsberg had no intent in the high stick. Absolutely he did. Maybe not to chop off Sammie's head, but there was definitely intent there. *scowling at you* And you know darn well that winning this series will be no big deal if half their corps is out. "Wings beat Colorado's farm club to advance to WCF." sirdrake is alive and well as far as I know, but what's to stop Chris Chelios from banning him?

Gizmo 21 Report post Posted May 1, 2008 Actually, it would probably be better for us if he DID play tonight based on the fact that he helped the Wings bag two goals in Game 3!!! So far, the "part-time" NHL'ers aren't fairing to well this play-offs...

Exactly. I mean just put Schneider back in the lineup and I honestly think the Wings win that series last year. Or how about 2001? Wings were minus 2 of their top 3 players against the Kings. No Yzerman or Shanny and I think I remember McCarty and Chelios both playing pretty banged up.

Personally, I'm aiming for the 8-11 musicians gig myself...classically trained music major becomes rock guitar hero...sounds good to me considering I couldn't find any college that had a "rockstar" program.
