egroen 384 Report post Posted May 5, 2008 http://www.thehockeynews.com/articles/1579...ew-Round-3.html Last round, Colorado had the edge in forwards and goalies. Same edge to Dallas this round. They had Colorado winning in 7, this round Dallas winning in 6 or 7. My favorite line: Why They’re Here Detroit – The Red Wings needed a bit of good fortune to get past the plucky Predators in the first round and had a relatively easy go of things against an injury-plagued Avs squad. They’ve been good, but far from fantastic. So despite regular season results. Despite Osgood having a better GAA and SV% than Turco. Despite Wings having more goals in less games --> Dallas should have a pretty easy time with them.
Chase 0 Report post Posted May 5, 2008 Currently the poll for who will in this series has Detroit in the lead, 72 to 28 percent. It appears no one agrees with THNs prediction lol.
NeverForgetMac25 483 Report post Posted May 5, 2008 I don't mind hearing these things one bit. Analysts put their foots in their mouths after Game 4 of the Preds series, through the beginning of Game 3 of the Colorado series and I expected them to do the same for this series. Opie 308 Report post Posted May 5, 2008 I love it!!!!! The C's just got taken to 7 by the Hawks, everyone is doubting them, the Wings got taken to game 6 by Nas, everyone is doubting them. It should be a great lesson for both teams, they learned that there is no easy team in the playoffs, regardless of injuries, luck, skill, beard length, whatever else the thing that matters most in the playoffs is heart, do you desire it more than the next guy, are you willing to potentially play 28 games of balls to the wall all out (any other cliche you want)! All the while the media gives the team all of the Bulletin board material, you don't need the other team to open their mouths (I highly doubt any of the Stars would run their gums, or try something with the Octopi) because the media is doing it all for you. Granted a guy like KG will get more outwardly intense but I think the Wings players are just as intense as he is, and will use the doubt to prove others wrong. At least I am hoping!!!! servo 15 Report post Posted May 5, 2008 Few pundits pick the Wings. But give Dallas credit, they knocked off the hottest team at the end of the year that everyone DID pick to win it all and they knocked off the Stanley Cup Champs. I know that I'd rather see the Wings play Dallas (Not only because I'll see all the games ) not Aneheim or San Jose.
Yzermania19 1 Report post Posted May 5, 2008 Let them pick the Stars - I don't care. We'll just prove them all wrong on the ice, where it counts. Make those so-called "experts" eat their words like we did in the last round against the Avs.
Opie 308 Report post Posted May 5, 2008 On the Best of Mike and Mike, Golic said he thinks the best thing for the NHL would be Pit Det finals. Didn't catch exactly what he was saying up until the end but something to the point it would show case young talented players. Would be good for the base. egroen 384 Report post Posted May 5, 2008 It's boring and not very news-worth to predict the #1 seed to win. Chances are, they will lose somewhere over the course of the playoffs and you look like more of a genius if/when they lose for calling the upset, than if you pick them to win each time. Vegas, depite all the media picks, has the Wings as the odds-on champ... I am curious if all these expert analaysts had to put real money down, who they would bet on? VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted May 5, 2008 The Wings haven't really been tested, but they haven't been struggling. I think people overlook that. Skill and discipline beat Nashville, and everythign clicked against Colorado. People make light that Colorado was hurt and was "easy" to beat, but they never notice HOW BAD Detroit beat Colorado. Plenty of teams would have taken a few more games to beat an injured Colorado.

Greenberg is awesome, he loves hockey and I think he was a beat reporter for the Flyers way back when. On this show Mike and Mike were talking about how awesome the Dallas/SJ game was last night, but they also commented that the American public could care less about it and they said it's a shame. The lead in to your comment was Greeny talking about how the NHL needs to market superstars and the elite teams while Golic said the NHL needs to hardcore market a face of the NHL, which he mentioned is Crosby to the American public. Which lead to his statement that the BEST thing for the NHL is to have a Penguins and Red Wing finals to showcase the face of the game and the elite team. It was actually a very good conversation and I recommend if you watch any show on ESPN it be Mike and Mike because Greeny adores hockey and the game and Golic just loves all and any sports, except Nascar haha

Plenty of teams would have taken a few more games to beat an injured Colorado. Wow, that is exactly what I was going to say! We played very poorly against Nashville and if we played like we did against the Avs, we would have swept them as well. Our talent alone is the thing that beat the Preds along with the resiliency of our goaltending. I also think that the Avs final game was a bit of a lack of effort on the Avs part, there should be no way one team gets 4, 2 on 1, goals, that's just lack of effort. These "experts" always pick the sexy team...there is nothing sexy about Homer or a mule :-p

HAHAHAHA!!! Oh that is hilarious. Were they drunk when they wrote that?? I mean, I understand people having different opinions about who will ultimately win the series from both conferences, and I can see why people may think Dallas has a better chance than Detroit, even though I don't agree. However, to say the Flyers' offense is better than the Pens' is just ridiculous.

I mean when Golic talks about Steroids in pro sports he knows. He admits he did it admits he was wrong and tells his kids how much of a mistake it was. I listen to Rome as well, but only because it is like listening to Stand up comedy, but all the jokes are sports based. Rome just throws catch phrases around and asks stupid questions in his stupid way. Makes me laugh a lot, but..... He has some great interviews!!!!! That is the real reason, he gets some really good College sports coaches on there and his Pro Athletes can be good but the questions are really soft. Some of the Amateur athletes and Olympians he gets are great interviews. But I do like Mike and Mike.
Konnan511 1,736 Report post Posted May 5, 2008 THN: Offense: Dallas...? Defense: Wings (Obviously!) Goalie: (Turco has played amazing it's fair to give them an edge in goaltending, although we ALL know how well Turco is going to do in JLA =)) Special Teams: Dallas (I agree, our PP sucks, but has been doing much much much better lately) Coach: Wings (Obviously again haha) Interesting facts thus far: GAA: Dallas has a lower GAA Goals for: Wings have 3 more goals albeit in a few less games Shots: Det averages nearly 40 shots a game! PIM Dif.: Dallas has taken 32 less minutes in penalties compared to Detroits 20 less PIM than their opp. Datsyuk and Filppula both have 0 PIM Pavs is making 1 of 5 shots, while Mule is making 1 of 4 shots, conversely, hank is making 1 out of every 8 shots. +/- Wings have 5 of the top 6 +/- leaders with Filppula only 1 +/- away from making it 6 of the top 7 (Zata, Pavs, Lids, Raphael, Franzenstienmulealator)

Hank 0 Report post Posted May 5, 2008 This series will be tough. Dallas has very good defense and goaltending. But I like how TSN doesn't bother to mention some of the suspect goals that Turco has let in throughout these playoffs. In the end, most of the analysts on TSN don't like Detroit because they're all Maple Leaf slappy's. It would be no different if it was Ottawa rolling through the East. They would find new and exciting ways to knock them down as well. Leaf homer-ism will always play a role on the TSN hockey panel. My prediction is the Wings win in 6 very tough, close games. Vincanni 1 Report post Posted May 5, 2008 Interesting to see how little emphasis is placed on how we actually faired against one another this year in the regular season. I know the playoffs are somewhat of a different game, but then again even that should favor us as we disposed of our opponents easier and with taking less physical punishment. How soon we forget that Dallas' only beat us once this season and while I hate making excuses that win was during our February meltdown were we had our largest losing streak of the decade, was in Dallas, was against our third-string goalie, while we were without half of our current starting defense men. Predicting a 7 game series does pretty much constitute a toss up in the minds of the analyst, but I was actually expecting us to be predicted as the favourite for once considering some of the most obvious facts. Can't blame this prediction too much however, Dallas has played like a team possessed and if I were to take a stab at a prediction my slightly biased view would say Wings in 7. Guest EZBAKETHAGANGSTA Report post Posted May 5, 2008 This series dosent scare me at all. let them say what they want. Dallas trys to play the same style as the wings and does not do it as good. Turco chokes vs the wings, and the wings have more offensive depth, and dont let me even get started on the d matchup. Predicting 5 games. ( Predicted 6 for nashville series and 5 for colarado so pretty close so far)
