"Stars were tired in Game 1"

The Stars wouldnt of been tired if they woulda beat the Sharks in 4.

QF-Effin'-T.

I'm also sick of the whole excuse that everyone's using that Homer's goal shouldn't have counted.

Rule 69 – Interference on the Goalkeeper

69.1 Interference on the Goalkeeper - This rule is based on the premise

that an attacking player’s position, whether inside or outside the

crease, should not, by itself, determine whether a goal should be

allowed or disallowed. In other words, goals scored while attacking

players are standing in the crease may, in appropriate circumstances

be allowed. Goals should be disallowed only if: (1) an attacking

player, either by his positioning or by contact, impairs the goalkeeper’s

ability to move freely within his crease or defend his goal; or (2) an

attacking player initiates intentional or deliberate contact with a

goalkeeper, inside or outside of his goal crease. Incidental contact

with a goalkeeper will be permitted, and resulting goals allowed, when

such contact is initiated outside of the goal crease, provided the

attacking player has made a reasonable effort to avoid such contact.

Turco initiated contact coming forward, plus Homer didn't impede Turco's movement in the crease.

And if Detroit had lost, it would've been "rust from the 7-day layoff", right?

Suck it up, you nancies.

^^ What Matt said.

Yeh I found it funny the whole game the announcers are talking about "the Stars aren't looking very good. They're really hung over from their last series." They also showed Ribeiro & Ott and the announcer says, "Look at them. In between faceoffs, they're literally struggling for air." Boo-F'n-Hoo! Time & again the disrespect shown our team just makes me so infuriated. Excuses are for losers.

And memo to Dallas: that wasn't even Detroit's A-game last night.

One game doesn't tell you everything, but at the end of Round #1, and going into Round #2, I said if we meet the Stars, i'd be REAL happy. Bring it on!

Steve Yzerman can never lead a team to a championship

The Wings are old and slow

The Wings bought the cup

The Wings are not physical enough to last

Blah Blah Blah

How many excuses do I have to hear in my life time from all of the haters?

In the Salary Cap era, they won't be haters if the Wings keep winning and playing they way they have the last month. I don't see how the haters can debunk the Wings if they win the cup this year.

I believe that the wings really are the better team, and a good case can be made that they are the best team remaining in the playoffs. I think Dallas is second best, followed by pitt, and shocked Philly is still in.

I really don't know how people can say the Wings aren't the better team. If you go over to knowledgable Dallas forums right now, even the concensus there is that the Wings are the better team. If the wings continue to play like they've been, they are not going to lose another game. They're playing on all cylinders right now. Let's hope it keeps up.

If we posted every slight, every excuse, every disrepsectful comment shown towards the Wings, and how we are not taken seriously, we would shut this site down from overload.

Wait until Dallas wins a game. [if they can, I mean]

For those keeping track of the "pros" picks:

Round #1 - San Jose, Anaheim, Pittsburgh, and to a lesser extent Montreal & the Devils.

Round #2 - San Jose, Pittsburgh and OMFG - now the Rangers!???

Round #3 - Dallas, Pittsburgh, and a bone thrown Detroit's way.

Whatever.

I am a Wings fan, but the Stars got beat by a couple fortunate calls and bounces. Stars missed on their chances, like Hagman missing on that 2 on 1 in the first period when he had an open net to shoot at and just missed the pass from Ribero. The penalty to bring the Stars down 5 on 3 in the first period was weak. As a hockey fan, there is no way I could call that a penalty, but as a Wings fan I will take it. Now I wait for the Stars to get a call like that in game 3 in front of their fans and the Wings to be in the same spot. Not trying to put down what the Wings did because they played very well. They also missed some close chances like the Zet wrap around opportunity and great save by Turco.

I just don't agree that the Wings are a "better" team. Both of these teams are pretty darn even. The Wings just have more going for them right now.

Oh, and the Stars being tired? Please. If the Wings lost, they would have been "rusty" and had too much time off. The announcers are like a broken record when it comes to this time of year in the playoffs. I have heard it all.

I agree with your assessment on some of the weak calls. Modano's 'hooking' penalty was a joke. But so was Lidstroms.

What made Lidstrom's even more infuriating was the complete non-call that happened 10 seconds before 200 feet down the ice involving Robidas. He basically hogtied Filpulla. How do you call hooking on Lidstrom and Modano (when no hook was involved) and yet let Robidas not only interfere with Filpulla's path to the puck, but literally grab him and throw him to the ice?

I loathe complaining about referees as hockey is the hardest sport to officiate but the consistancy needs to be there.

Whether the league or refs want to admit it, they're human nature gets in the way too many times. They say they'll call every penalty no matter what stage of the game it's in, but that's not true. They're still swallowing their whistles if one team is getting penalised a lot. And I'm sure Modano's weak call played a big role in Robidas getting away with his Greco-Roman tactic.

was the game in Detroit on a local channel or versus? Cause on versus announcers felt that Dallas had enough time to rest and wings basically outplayed them.... that is what I heard at least....

I got the TSN feed and they went on and on about how tired the Stars looked and how they weren't moving their feet.

Some thought it had more to do with mental exhaustion they accumulated during their series against the Sharks.

I'm sure that's what happened to them. But you know what? If the Stars wanted an easier road to the Cup they should have played better from October to April.

I'm don't have rose-coloured glasses on so I know the Wings have probably had the easiest road to the Cup out of all the 4 remaining teams. And it's why, for ONCE, the President's Trophy has paid off for this club.

I definitely disagree and feel like we were watching two seperate games. The Wings dominated 5 on 5 as well as special teams (except for the final period where they were hanging back w/ a 4 goal lead and trying to avoid injury). For every chance you listed that Dallas missed, Detroit had one as well... from Kronwall's 2 on 1 to Zetterberg missing the open net on the wrap-around. That game could have been 7-3 if not for some lucky/great saves on either end.

Calls were soft all around. Penalties are going to be called in this series, and so far Detroit has proven to have the better special teams.

Yeah, I had to deal with that old argument on another message board, providing proof that it doesn't apply this season (meanwhile, Detroit goes 12-1 against the "tough" NW Division). Oddly enough, no one had any comebacks for that.

ohh yea just watched that. Yea basically unfair penlties, unfair goals and stars are tired. What a joke... Let them eat crow at the end of the series, but for now they can talk all the trash they want...

Don't forget that Phillipe Boucher is injured, so even if we win this series, they'll always be able to say that him not playing affected the outcome of the whole series.

Screw the Stars and their so-called fans. As someone already mentioned, it's their fault their team had no killer instinct to finish the Sharks off earlier.

The Wings MADE them look tired. I expect them to be tired for the rest of the series before they are REtired! (The Stars did pick up the intensity a bit during the 3rd period, but the Wings did a nice job of matching it!)

Tired? If the NHL would have started the series on Tuesday like they should have that still wouldn't have been an excuse for a professional team. Instead they pampered their asses and so they had no repercussions for being so weak that they needed 7 periods to finish a game. If they were tired it was because they spent their time chasing a better team around the ice all night. If only Dallas' fans had as much class as their team. I haven't heard any crying from the actual players about being tired. Now if they would just learn what real goaltender interference is so that they would just stop whining about that. Turco better get used to the fact that he is going to be looking at Homer and Mule's asses for 3-4 more games.

How could the NHL play game one of this series on Tuesday, when if the Sharks won game 6 there would have been a game 7 that day!!

Don't you think you should finish one round of the playoffs before you start the next, I mean it would seem pretty silly to have the wings start a series with Dallas if the Sharks won game 7.

Then you have to start the series all over again!

Exactly. Which they couldn't have done if they really were tired. They'd have started strong and finished weak, not the other way round.

Honestly, I think the Stars' 3rd period "surge" was more of the Red Wings sitting back than anything.

Did all of you actually watch this game. I disagree that the Stars were tired. Even if they were..........to freakin' bad this is playoff Hockey.............. Dallas was outplayed, overworked and lost to a good , disciplined Hockey team. Why do you think Dallas was so penalized, when you can't keep up you commit penalties to prevent easy scoring chances. I have been a fan for long enough to know that Nobody is going to say nice things about the Wings. Everyone loves to hate the best ! I have said it from the start... This is a really good team, and it's going to take more than the Stars to end this run. I can't wait for game two when the tired myth is dispelled. These aren't last years Wings or the year before. This bunch can smell the goal line and Dallas has a very short season left !
