Pens close it out 3-1 (w/ empty netter). Without Timonen and Coburn, their forwards have no support coming through the neutral zone, so the Pens continue to trap and be patient for chances.

Flyers win; NHL wants to get more income and they're tired of the short series. Longer series = more revenue for NHL

Flyers win because NBC has a game scheduled on Sunday.

Actually, I don't think NBC pays the NHL a penny for televising their games. I forget the word for it, but John Buccigross talks about it occasionally in his column.

Basically, the NHL is in such a state wrt its profile in the US market that Bettman is prepared for it to be shown on network TV, for free, so that it at least gets *some* exposure.

Praying for a Philly victory for 2 reasons 1) i like them and 2) i dont want the Pens getting alot of rest while they await the wings who dont play again till saturday which if we close out the series than means that the pens had 2 more days of rest over the wings. No good! The pens are already going to have a big enough advantage having the face of the franchise getting all the help from the refs, we dont need to give them more help by givingthem all that extra rest...

What do you think is more likely? Bad calls against the Pens so that NBC can have a game on Sunday, or bad calls against the Flyers because Bettman will cry if Sid doesn't win?

I think we just saw the answer to that on the Briere penalty....or lack there of...

I did enjoy seeing Carter nail Malkin in the leg and not get a call though! Malkin deserved that one!

I don't want Pens to win tonight either, but would them having extra time off really benefit them? If you remember after they swept the Sens, they came out pretty rusty the first game 2nd round, and were down. I don't remember if it was late 2nd, or beginning of 3rd period where they started skating and making a come back. I think if that was to happen against Detroit, they wouldn't let the Pens back into the game.
