chrisdetroit 189 Report post Posted May 18, 2008 The series isn't over yet until somebody loses or wins 4 games. Dallas is still closer to losing 4 games. We need to keep this all in perspective. We won the first 3. Two were blowouts and one was a close game. They won the next two both close games. So it's 3-2 in our favor. Yes, we had them down 3-0. When they were in that position, they needed to win 4 straight. They have won 2 straight. They still need to beat us 2 more in a row. It's not panic time. Monday will be our 3rd chance to close them out.
Reds4Life 51 Report post Posted May 18, 2008 I don't think we are in trouble..yet. But if we loose game 6 in Dallas, anything can happen in game 7. It would be totally embarassing to loose the series 4:3 after leading 3:0. Last 6 periods, we played with little to no effort. This just can't repeat. All players need to step it up. Especially Cleary, his injury is not excuse anymore, it's been long time since he played again. Chelios screwed it a lot in game 5. We need to play our game. If we do, we will win game 6 for sure. Go Wings!
sixer 37 Report post Posted May 18, 2008 (edited) blah blah, blah blah, we're going to the Cup. Period. Don't worry, we're not in trouble, I'm honestly sick of all this. Edited May 18, 2008 by sixer
isbister 0 Report post Posted May 18, 2008 We gave Dallas some life but I think we will bounce back game 6 even though its on Dallas ice. We usually don't miss as many oppurtunities as we did yestereday, so I just think its a matter of time. We held Dallas to like 20 shots to our 40. FEED THE MULE!!! russianswede919293 95 Report post Posted May 18, 2008 Not in trouble, if we lose game 6 then we are in trouble, right now we are on our heels, and in need of some adjustments. I think a few line-up changes are in order. Personally I think that it may be a good idea to split Hank and Dats tomorrow since on the road they will put the Peterson line up against those 2 every shift, and I also think splitting Kronner and Stewie up into a pair with Lids and Raffi would be beneficial to have one physical and one offensive D man on each pair. So to start the game my lines would be Filpulla-Datsyuk-Homer Cleary-Zetterberg-Hudler Drake-Draper-Maltby Hartigan/Abdelkader-Helm-Samuelsson Lids-Stuart Kronner-Raffi Lebda/Lilja/Ericsson-Lilja/Chelios/Ericsson Meaning I want either Lilja or Ericsson in for either Cheli or Lebda, since those two, espsecially Cheli haven't been great this round If things don't work shift back to the old lines. But against Peterson and with the lack of 2 lines right now, its been over 2 games since a non-PP goal by somebody NOT Hank or Dats has been scored, it may be time to break the twins up. GAWing 1 Report post Posted May 18, 2008 It was one of those games where you just didn't have a good feeling throughout the game. Unfortunately we've seen this many times before. Can't come out like this tomorrow night or we'll be down 4 goals early. Need to set the tone right from the start.
motorcitykid 42 Report post Posted May 18, 2008 (edited) Panic? I get so tired of seeing these threads after a loss. No matter where you turn, God forbid we lose a game, it's "what's wrong with the Wings?". We were given no chance when the playoffs started. Then everyone jumped on our bandwagon the deeper we went. Now, today, it's time to make HUGE changes because we are on the verge of losing this series - to hear the f'n media tell it. Puh-leeze! Homer's "non-goal" in Game #4, as well as the phantom interference call on Pavel later on, played a huge part in momentum for the Stars. Had those goals counted, it be a whole different story sitting here Sunday morning. Yesterday, for some reason, this team came out slow, and never found their feet. Not to mention two horrible defensive mistakes directly led to goals. This team, year in, year out, is the best in the NHL. We break records, so many, we barely have time to stop and enjoy them. We are THE measuring stick for every other organization. And think again if you don't figure that's a big weight to carry. From Game #1 of the NHL season, we are expected to win every game. We go into every other team's building as the team everyone wants to beat. It's our name they circle on their schedules. Everyone wants to see how they stack up against us the cream of the crop. Player after player, talk about the Red Wings organization and how we are held in such high regard. We stand alone. I love it. I love everything being a fan or a Red Wing means. 5 W's left. Go WINGS!! Edited May 18, 2008 by motorcitykid
GMRwings1983 8,803 Report post Posted May 18, 2008 Agreed...In recent history it appears the Wings are @ times incapable of finishing off an opponent when they have a commanding lead in a series. Huh? The last time we lost a game where we had a chance to eliminate someone was in 1998 against Dallas. That was 10 whole years ago. Since then, this team has had an easy time closing out opponents when we get to 3 wins. That's why these last 2 games have been so unprecedented.
Donaldjr2448 43 Report post Posted May 18, 2008 Keep this in mind too.... since 1995, we have NEVER finished the Western Conference Finals out on the road! 1995 @Chicago, 1997@Colorado, 1998@ Dallas, 2002 we had to come back from 3-2 just to get to game 7 at home!! with the exception of Chicago we lost all of those series game 5's. VERY INTERESTING!!
Hockeytown_Ryan 122 Report post Posted May 18, 2008 (edited) im not worried about this round its the next one i am worried about. Pittsburgh hasnt gone more than 5 since the playoffs started, which means they have a good offensive team..... if they get more rest then we do we could be in for a 7 game cup final (which would be awesome) But i think would go in their favor am i worried ??? yes i am Edited May 18, 2008 by Hockeytown_Ryan

Letting the Stars back to a game 6 is frustrating enough, I am just frustrated when I see the Pens scoring goals like crazy and making the finals. IMHO, Its do or die tomorrow. 10 Minute Misconduct 104 Report post Posted May 18, 2008 Imagine the threads on here after tomorrow IF we lose. Wow, that will be some kind of comedy. I have a really good feeling about tomorrow, for some reason i think the Wings will realize "oh f***, the series is now 3-2", and play there ass off.

Yzerfan1999 81 Report post Posted May 18, 2008 I had a bad feeling about game 5, but I have a much better feeling about game 6. In my mind, the Wings looked like they did in games 4 and 5 of this series, as they did in games 3 and 4 of the Nashville series. Nashville wasn't the problem, and I don't think Dallas is either - the Wings have just had 2 mediocre games in a row, its not like Dallas cannot be beat. When it goes good - and it will - the Wings will be a better team in the finals because of this wakeup call.

Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted May 19, 2008 I'm not worried because ZDH are being matched up against a bunch of plugs. Peterson, Erikson, and Lundqvist are 4th liners, sooner or later ZDH will over power them, and then Dallas are done because they are relying on that line and Turco to win them the game. Ribeiro is just like Spezza, choking when it counts. Modano and Zubov are really looking past there prime and MVP has be getting tired by now.
VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted May 19, 2008 The thing that is so great about the Wings is their versatility. Split the twins up. If it doesn't work, go back to the original lines. We have so m any good players we can adapt. Ozzie for Hasek, splitting the twins, rotating the defensive pairings and each time it sparks the team. I say experiment in the first period to try and gain some momentum. Scoring the first goal can go a long way towards us reminding Dallas who the hell the Wings are. BuckeyeWingsfan80 209 Report post Posted May 19, 2008 the blown call in game 4 seems to have changed the momentum in the series... we should still win though.. The blown call notwithstanding, Game 5 was a completely different game. The Wings weren't nearly as sharp has they have been, even in Game 4.... I think we all know that scoring one goal isn't going to get the job done.
Yzerfan1999 81 Report post Posted May 19, 2008 I am banking on the Hockey Gods evening things out for that horrible call in game 4 - And no, that wasn't a return call for Holmstroms interference in game 1. That no-goal in game 4 completely changed this series. There is little doubt in my mind that if that goal stands, the series is over in 4. No way an injustice that monumental leads to the Wings blowing this and becoming epic failures. No way.
