marcaractac 3,963 Report post Posted May 18, 2008 I don't think so. They wouldn't tell him "go ahead and exercise" if that were true. They'd string us along without that kind of update otherwise. If this were Game 7 of the Cup Finals, he'd play. If this were January, they'd say "out two weeks" and leave it at that. True that. They want him back asap, they just aren't gonna risk anything with a player who is gonna be a big part of our team for years to come. We are more than capable of finishing off this series with the W without him.... he'll be back for the finals. Heck, I wouldn't be shocked to see him in a game 7 if it got to that (heaven forbid!! :S)

Hank 0 Report post Posted May 18, 2008 We got him, his name is Franzen. Only problem is that he is injured. We could have traded away Flip and Huds and Helm for Hossa, but then if Hossa goes down we have no Flip, Huds and Helm. What then? Hartigan? Would you have traded away 3 guys from our roster for Hossa? That would have been a hell of a gamble. The problem is Franzen went on his tear after the deadline. So Holland's decision not to make a deal for a forward had nothing to do with that. Secondly, yes, I would have traded Filp and Huds for Hossa. Thirdly, who's to say that it had to be Hossa? All I know is Ryan Malone was available for nothing last spring. I was adamant about the Wings getting him then. I have a hard time believing a 27-year old, 6'3" forward who loves to hit, fight and has hands would have hurt this team. Especially now. I'm not a Holland hater or fan, but I certainly think he missed the boat when he failed to address this need for the past 2 seasons. I just hope that Franzen's okay for Game 7. And if we do manage to finally put Dallas away, only having two offensive players won't help against the Pens that have one of the most underrated defenses in the league. Dabura 12,232 Report post Posted May 18, 2008 That scoring winger Holland promised in July and again in March sure would come in handy now. Please don't tempt me. aaaghungasdfasdfasdf
Wings_Dynasty 267 Report post Posted May 18, 2008 I we don't win game 6 ( I still think we will pull our s*** together) I think he plays game 7, even if he only has 1 practice. The team docs are more lax with pressure from the brass. I know people won't believe me, but it's true. If it wasn't true, Kariya would have been out for the game when Stevens laid him out at center ice and it took him 15 seconds to wake up and realize he was alive. Important players play in important games if they think they can, and game 7 in the conference finals is the 2nd most important game that any player can play. But hopefully it won't come to that. Matt 1,049 Report post Posted May 18, 2008 I'd be shocked if he plays another game this year. The injury is obviously season ending, but they don't want to give out that kind of information. That's hogwash -- if it was "season-ending" then there's no point in the club dealing with the daily media circus that is finding out Franzen's health situation. Besides, as a couple of reports have mentioned today, Franzen is now free of headaches and we're just waiting to get medical clearance from team doctors. The key is when Franzen was clear of the headaches... usually a week after that he'll be given the green light.
marcaractac 3,963 Report post Posted May 18, 2008 A couple days of light exercises with no returning headaches, and he will be allowed to practice again. After a couple of those, he will be back. I'd say definitely for game 1 of the finals, and possible for game 7 of this round if it comes to that. God i hope it doesnt come to that.... lol
10 Minute Misconduct 104 Report post Posted May 18, 2008 I don't think he will play in game 7 but game 1 wouldn't be for another week so if he isn't getting head aches he should be good to go.
j.hoop 64 Report post Posted May 18, 2008 We didn't necessarily split them up, but when Hank and Homer were out Datsyuk, Flip, and Cleary played well together. they were so fast!!
HockeyCrazy3033 168 Report post Posted May 18, 2008 It is not season ending. If it was they'd say it and get it over with already. He's not having headaches anymore which is a great sign. Babs said the second he's cleared to play, he's playing. Doesn't have to practice a lot. That says something right there.
HockeyCrazy3033 168 Report post Posted May 18, 2008 Also, since we are talking about Game 6: Babs is expected to make some line changes.
Reds4Life 51 Report post Posted May 18, 2008 Also, since we are talking about Game 6: Babs is expected to make some line changes. Good to hear Babock is gonna make some changes, we need that. Hopefully Hudler will get more ice-time, while Cleary is demoted to 3rd or 4th line.

Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted May 18, 2008 Dano and Homer need to have big game 6's if were gonna win. I'm really starting to miss Franzen, he gives us great depth as opposed to decent depth.

Hopefully Hudler will get more ice-time, while Cleary is demoted to 3rd or 4th line. Samuelson is the one who needs to be demoted. At the least Cleary works hard in the corners and gets to lose pucks, he nor his line mates have had any sucess putting it in is the problem. Holmstrom-Datsyuk-Filpula Hudler-Zetterberg-Cleary Meech-Helm-Samuelson Drake-Draper-Maltby McCarty Looks ok, if Babs is actually gonna juggle lines I bet they look something like that. OsGOD 3 Report post Posted May 18, 2008 Like i said before... The team should just operate as though Franzen is lost for the season... they need to raise their game UP. WE ARE NOT A ONE MAN TEAM.... or are we? If so, we don't deserve to play the pens!
10 Minute Misconduct 104 Report post Posted May 18, 2008 People seem to forget Dallas is without Lehtinen and Barnes. Lehtinen is there top winger, and we can't even wrap up a 3-0 series lead without Franze. *sigh*
HockeyCrazy3033 168 Report post Posted May 18, 2008 My goodness people..CHILL. Having two not so good games in a row does NOT take away from what a great team the Wings have been in this season and playoffs. No way in hell you're going to go throughout the playoffs playing perfect hockey. Bumps along the way are going to happen. Adversity only makes teams stronger. They'll be FINE. We won with Franzen and we can win without him. The fact we have lost the last two games isn't because Franzen has been out. It's because players have not been stepping up and have relied on him too much. If everyone did their part and upped their game a bit we would have won. Let's all get excited for tomorrow's game and hope that the Wings we know will show up. I know they will. As for Mule, he will come back when he comes back. That's all you can really say.. RedwingFan29 1 Report post Posted May 18, 2008 I think most here knew he wasn't going to be in for game 6. mlive just confirms it. Cleary will step up. He's so close to breaking out right now that it's not even funny. Maybe Babcock should break up Dats and Zets for a couple shifts to try to ignite Cleary. I hope so Cleary's been ******* useless this year.
HockeyCrazy3033 168 Report post Posted May 19, 2008 I hope so Cleary's been ******* useless this year. No he's not. He's great defensively. His offense hasn't been there since he broke his jaw. His freaking helmet/jaw guard doesn't help much either.
