Drapes Birthday

I remember Ken and Mick saying that in order to get Draper with the shaving cream, you have to go deep into the playoffs because I believe his birthday is this Saturday? Can someone enlighten us on that? So if that's the case, who do you think will go after Drapes with the shaving cream? I would love to see either Maltby or DMac get him hehe

I remember an article from 2002 in which it was said that Draper got Mac in the face with a pie for Mac's birthday, but that Draper managed to avoid the retribution when his own birthday came around.

They're still best friends to this day, so I bet Mac'll get him.

A bit off topic but I read that Draper's wife was going to be induced into labor on Thursday to avoid conflict with the finals - it should make an excellent present for him...

I don't think they can do anything to his face now that he has stitches. That would probably burn really bad to get shaving cream in your open wound.

OH DMAC FOR SURE....I have a GREAT B-DAY STORY....

Several years ago at training camp in TC I was at the local watering whole with the boys and several other patrons. It was Martan LaPointe's 25th b-day. When Marty showed up the bar keeper pulled a nice little cake out from behind the bar and lit some candles. We all began to sing happy b-day to Marty.

Mean while D-Mac went into stealth mode and began sneaking up on Marty through the crowd. Just as Marty began blowing out the candles Darren came up from underneath the guy holding the cake and smashed the cake into Marty's face (some candles still blazing).....

Oh the chase was on. Darren tore off running through the bar with Marty (cake flying off this face in big chunks) hot on his heels. Out the front door they went. Several minutes later Darren came stumbling in the back door with a good amount of cake now on his face, and Marty following with a BIG smile....

IT WAS HULARIOUS.....

Yup, Draper's birthday is on Saturday. As for the shaving cream, an assault by all his victims AFTER a successful Game 1 at center ice would be fine... ;)

Yea I was thinking, before I read your reply, they should get him during the Game 1 warmups. Most of the fans know what's going on.

My pick is for Hudler to get him... he's like the Spanish Inquisition, no one expects him.

yes and amongst his weaponry are such diverse elements as fear, surprise, ruthless efficiency, an almost fanatical devotion to the pope, and a nice red uniform!

(it's nice to see another python fan around here!)

I'd do with only some of that ruthless efficiency come Saturday. :)

Edit: and a nice red uniform!

Birthday 'doesn't get any better' for Draper

Wings' center hit birthday trifecta on Game 1 of Stanley Cup finals

Bill Roose Detroit Red Wings

DETROIT – The Red Wings’ self-appointed crown prince of birthday celebrations turned

Draper had three teeth loosened on this play when he scored a first-period goal in Game 6 against Dallas.

37-years-old on Saturday.

Known for blasting teammates in the face with a shaving cream pie on their big days, center Kris Draper managed to avoid a foamy face wash from the Red Wings after Saturday’s morning skate before Game 1 of the Stanley Cup finals.

Maybe his teammates were more focused on the task at hand – beating the Pittsburgh Penguins at Joe Louis Arena – or perhaps it was the three loose bottom teeth in Draper’s head that prevented him from incurring the wrath.

“There’s a statute (of limitations),” Kirk Maltby said. “We have a few days to get him.”

Nicknamed the "Birthday Bandit" by teammates, Draper is now sporting braces on his lower teeth, hardware he’s worn since Game 6 against Dallas when he scored a goal on a deflected puck off his lower jaw. It took six stitches to close the cut to his chin.

Draper has victimized such teammates as Jiri Hudler, Darren McCarty, Henrik Zetterberg, Chris Osgood and Dan Cleary.

Fortunately, Draper's shenanigans has never gone awry, though Cleary didn't suffer through sneezing bout caused by an allergic reaction the the shaving cream.

With or without the locker room ritual on Saturday, Draper had to be the happiest player in the Red Wings’ locker room on Saturday morning. And why not?

For Draper, Saturday is the perfect trifecta: he's playing in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup finals – on his birthday – and his newborn daughter, Kamryn Rose, came home from the hospital for the first time.

Ask if playing Game 1, on his birthday, was the best present he could imagine, Draper said, “I would have to say that this one is tough to beat. Playing in the Stanley Cup finals and bringing my daughter home this morning, I mean, it doesn’t get any better than that. This is something that I’ll certainly always remember.”

Kamryn Rose was born on Thursday, measuring in at eight pounds, 13 ounces and 21 inches.

While Draper is pretty certain that this is the first time that he’s ever played hockey on his birthday, one thing is crystal clear.

“The best gift that I got when I was a kid was probably one of those Big Wheels,” said Draper who has three goals and an assist in these playoffs. “I was pretty pumped when I got that. That was probably my last big birthday present.”

But a Wings’ win in Game 1 tonight would be a bigger deal.

Someone should get him while he's sitting in the dentist chair!

Good stuff. And I'd like to second your idea of hockey and Oberon!!

Man, this sucks being in NC and not up there in the Zoo for the Finals.
