10 Minute Misconduct 104 Report post Posted May 21, 2008 Detroit doesn’t expect to have Johan Franzen in the lineup for Game 1. The forward known as Mule, who has an NHL-high 12 goals in the playoffs, missed the last five games against the Dallas Stars in the Western Conference finals because of concussion-like symptoms. “A doctor is going to take a look at him Thursday or Friday,” Holland said. “He’s doubtful to start the series, but we’re hopeful we’ll get him back at some point of the series.” http://ca.sports.yahoo.com/nhl/news;_ylt=A...p&type=lgns
Grateful Gadsby 10 Report post Posted May 21, 2008 (edited) Holland: Mule doubtful for game one, according to USA Today: http://www.usatoday.com/sports/hockey/2008...874622778_x.htm Article also says Holland is "hopeful" that Franzen will play at some point in the series. Docs will be examining him again later in the week. Edited May 21, 2008 by Grateful Gadsby

NHLrules? 32 Report post Posted May 21, 2008 I think he has a broken collar bone or something else. I dont think we will see him again this year. s*** that sucks.
Reilly 24 Report post Posted May 21, 2008 I don't see the Wings winning without Franzen. It was doable against the Stars because they coudn't score to begin with, but Detroit needs secondary scoring. Their second PP unit is beyond awful.

Do you ever have anything positive to say? lol The Wings can win without Franzen. If they didn't have Lidstrom, Zetterberg, Datsyuk, or maybe even Rafalski/Kronwall i'd agree with you. NHLrules? 32 Report post Posted May 21, 2008 The penguins D and tender are no where near Dallas. I think we have a better chance of him this round than last, and hey we did pretty well last round.

It was doable against the Stars because they coudn't score to begin with, but Detroit needs secondary scoring. Their second PP unit is beyond awful. Wow. What a shock. It's one thing to be negative every now and then, but it's a damn shame when you have not a positive bone in your body and constantly bash your supposed fave team. Please don't say it you being realistic because it's not. You are just overly pessimistic and it's really sad to see.

Uncle Danny 155 Report post Posted May 21, 2008 I think it's safe to say that something else is definitely going on. I don't fear the worst here like some, but when you couple this with Holland's recent remarks about the proper way to report injuries to the press, I have to guess that he's sporting a bum knee or somesuch at this point. Here's to hoping he makes it back soon!

Sergeiwasmyfav 0 Report post Posted May 21, 2008 (edited) Someone suggested it could be his sinuses, and I think that could be a legitimate theory. My mom types medical reports for doctors and she typed a man a couple of weeks ago with sinus pain so bad he was in the hospital for almost two weeks on morphine, and there was nothing the doctors could do other than try to drain his sinuses, but even that didn't really help. I'm not saying that this is Franzen's issue at all, but it is possible that the change in altitude going to Denver could have really messed with his sinuses, and they did say the pain started in the Colorado series. Obviously there is no way to know, but I guess it could be possible. Edited May 21, 2008 by Sergeiwasmyfav
RockyMountainWingGal 108 Report post Posted May 21, 2008 Frustrating. First it's "he could play in a game 7" then "he'll be back for the finals", now "he'll be back after game 1". Very depressing seen as how Franzen would push us over the edge in this series if you ask me.... But, I'll wait until I hear something directly from the Wings before I freak out about rumors. It'sthe Stanley Cup finals and you know he's begging to play - so hopefully it works out.

Chaldean 0 Report post Posted May 21, 2008 The penguins D and tender are no where near Dallas. I think we have a better chance of him this round than last, and hey we did pretty well last round. Exactly. This is going to be a high scoring series IMO, and look for 2nd and 4th line getting some easy goals.
10 Minute Misconduct 104 Report post Posted May 21, 2008 Exactly. This is going to be a high scoring series IMO, and look for 2nd and 4th line getting some easy goals. It won't be any higher scoring of a series then Dallas'.
Chaldean 0 Report post Posted May 21, 2008 (edited) It won't be any higher scoring of a series then Dallas'. I think the Pens are going to score more then the Stars did. Look for 3 - 4, 4 -5 gams Edited May 21, 2008 by Chaldean
redwingfan19 293 Report post Posted May 21, 2008 more good news on Franzen "Red Wings forward Johan Franzen continues to remain free of headaches, significantly improving the odds he'll be able to play during the Stanley Cup final against Pittsburgh." TSN I am very optimistic that Franzen will play in game 1 if the headaches are gone. Hopefully he gets into the practices and is ready to go. I know the Wings brass is being very hush-hush about this but it could just be them playing head games trying to throw a wrench in the Penguins plans. just my 2 cents on this issue
