Roenick, Ward Re-Sign with Respective Teams

and to think JR was done a year ago.....

14 goals in 70 regular season games, 2 goals in the 12 playoff games.

IMO, he was done a year ago and he's still done.

The fact that he 'earned' a million-dollar contract is hilarious.

Other than that one 4 assist playoff game, I thought Roenick was doing nothing. Wasn't he a healthy scratch at times this season, or least on the verge of being one? That's a risky signing IMO that won't pay off.

While JR has definitely taken a step back, and that he wasn't stellar for them in the post season, he did come up with a huge game when the Sharks needed him most in Round 1. I'm not arguing that he's worth a million dollars because he certainly isn't, but that's why I wrote "for the contract he's likely to get". You can never have enough leadership, and he helped calm that team when they needed it in Game 7.

For a lower level salary, re-signing JR isn't a bad move for SJ at all.

Not bad. Roenick is not bad for 1 million. San Jose need player like him. Joe Thornton and Patrick Marleau are not good leaders.

Ward is still solid defenseman. He's not worth THAT much though.

I might be JR biased, but i like this signing. Many of you are saying he is done because his numbers have dropped, but many players numbers drop and they are still very usefull to their team. Yzermans numbers dropped towards the end of his career, but he still brought tons of leadership to the team along with experience when it comes to adversery and playoffs. Now i am in NOWAY comparing Roenick to Yzerman, im just using him as an example to show that numbers dwindle at the end of careers. I just dont think you can look at just numbers when it comes to a players contribution to a team. Roenick brings grit to the team, and alot of veteran leadership. This team for the most part is still quite young, and having that experience might be a good thing for them )as it was this year). Now with that said is he going to play all 82 games? Probably not. Is he going to be a healthy scratch for some games? More than likely. But in my opinion hes a good guy to have on the team.

I'm surprised Roenick is coming back to be honest. He's 38, which isn't old, but with his history of concussions and his diminished abilities, you would think he would have called it quits by now.

I thought he was pretty invisible for most of the playoffs. He did have 4 pts in one game (though I don't remember him being that dominant in that game), he only had 1 point in the other 11 games.

Too bad for you that 10 of those 14 regular season goals were game-winners. Edited by Systemfel

THIS.

Roenick was clutch in the regular season. It was a shame that it didn't translate into the playoffs...but then, you could say the same for the entire team in the playoffs.

The Roenick signing is interesting. I was expecting SJ to part ways with him for the sake of making a statement (i.e., "We're really serious business now. No, really! We swear!") This is a merit-based signing; he performed, he gets another chance. I think that sends a much better message.

Kudos to JR and management.

Good for JR. He's always been one of my favorites, and I'm proud of the guy for resurrecting his career. 10 GWG's last year, and anyone saying he didnt do anything in the playoffs.. you werent watching, he was probably San Jose's best player.

Good for Ward too, always liked that guy.
