redwinger4747 6 Report post Posted May 29, 2008 Mike Babcock's press conference shows why he is a much better coach than Therrien. After a loss, Therrien just bitched about everything, blaming the game on the officiating, obstruction, communists, whatever. Babcock talks about what we did right, what we did wrong and gives the Penguins credit. He was calm, collected, straight forward, and took some blame himself about how much he played the top line. Babcock has class, Therrien does not. Go Wings.

He knows what it takes to win and when a team doesn't do it, he doesn't blame other outside forces.
Anomalously 0 Report post Posted May 29, 2008 Thought he was a bit tough on Z and D tonight. Overall I thought they had good games, considering the outcome. Some good chances, thought Homer was tenacious, could have been better, but they've been working hard and putting a lot of mileage out there. Stuart had a good chance early, he has had a good playoffs, but the puck rolled off his stick at least twice, wasn't in good position for the second Crosby goal, and a pass with good intentions that didn't go on the tape cost the Wings the first. He didn't mention him at all [that I heard]. Rafi was also below expectations. He's a puck-mover, didn't look like it.
Guest MrSandMan Report post Posted May 29, 2008 Despite the 3-2 loss tonight, I thought we did the right things and will come out hungry for game 4. Pens brought their 'A' game and slipped by with a victory. This was the first time Detroit played a game in their house in a long time. It took us awhile to settle down... and when we did, we put the Pens back on their heels. The beat us by a lucky bounce and our bounce wasn't there tonight. Detroit will come out hard and heavy on Saturday! Detroit is clearly the better team.
10 Minute Misconduct 104 Report post Posted May 29, 2008 Sometimes i wish Babcock would just start whining. But the guy is so classy, it would never happen. He never gives any excuses.

He didn't call them out - he just stated the truth. They were both spending way too much time on the ice. We don't need our forwards out there for 60-90 secs at a time. But ultimately, he blames himself for the loss. I'm a little disappointed Babs didn't roll the lines more. I thought being in the position he was in he would have not really thought too much about line-matching and just let the game flow and roll the lines. Instead he panicked when they scored early. #19forPresident! 1 Report post Posted May 29, 2008 I can't think of anybody else I'd rather have behind our bench. He doesn't take crap from his players or anybody else, and he doesn't dish it out either. He's honest, to the point, and almost always doing / saying the exact thing you would want him to as a fan. Mooker 0 Report post Posted May 29, 2008 Absolutely love how Mike is with press conferences... but: With all of the pissy whining from Therrien lately, I REALLY miss Scotty. You know that Scotty would have had a few clever, underhanded digs at Therrien in the ensuing press conferences that half of the analyists wouldn't have even picked up on. NeverForgetMac25 483 Report post Posted May 29, 2008 (edited) When a coach doesn't ***** and whine it doesn't necessarily make them a better coach, but it does make them more of man. Coach T could learn a lot from this press conference. Edited May 29, 2008 by Never Forget Mac #

Firehawk 305 Report post Posted May 29, 2008 This comment caught my attention: "You have to give them credit," Red Wings coach Mike Babcock said. "They found a way to win a game." Now I might be psychoanalyzing it a bit too much, but to me the way he said it and the way it sounded, he totally believes the wings are in 100% control of this series no matter what. It's like you playing your little brother 100 times at NHL 94 on SNES. He's going to beat you once every 50 games, and you say "nice job dude, you won one". lol
NeverForgetMac25 483 Report post Posted May 29, 2008 It read to me like he was blaming himself more than Pavel and Hank. Agreed. I don't believe that was a shot on Z and Dats....that was a shot on the coaching staff and how they misplayed those two.
KrazyGangsta 79 Report post Posted May 29, 2008 The way he talked today showed confidence in his players ... took some blame on him also = very happy players ... meaning good moral ... watch out pens

I thought being in the position he was in he would have not really thought too much about line-matching and just let the game flow and roll the lines. And then you end up with Lebda and Lilja out there against Crosby and Hossa You gotta do at least some matching up against a team like Pittsburgh. This isn't the BJs we're playing
poxer 0 Report post Posted May 29, 2008 Its funny because I was just about to make a post about this but found this one. Babcock is definitely classier than Therrien. Well Detroit is classier than the Pens. End of story.
