Who should the Wings sign over the summer?

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

I am trying to break away from the playoff topics, so I will ask this question

Who would you like to see the Wings sign over the summer?

Even though the Wings are about as perfect as an NHL team can get these days, it is always fun to think of who you would like to see play for the Wings. One free-agent-to-be that I think would add a butt-load of depth to our offense is Antoine Vermette of the Ottawa Senators. He is pretty underrated as far as 2nd liners go. I could see him on a line with Franzen and Filppula easy.

Another free-agent that would be cool to get back is Jason Williams. He has had a pretty good season with the Hawks this year and I think he is only going to get better. He already knows how we play so we wouldn't have to worry about him adjusting to our unique playing style.

There are no UFAs defensemen that stand out to me as a REALISTIC trade. I think that we should just work on resigning Stuart.

uhmmm the only addition i would make is if/when Drake, Mac, or Cheli retires.

id like to get a depth forward but i dont know at this point if Franzen is legit (and i really feel he is) he's the perfect solution to secondary scoring and Hudler of all people has proven that he can bring it as well.

I just want to see Hasek, Chelios and Maltby gone, and the youngsters like Howard and Ericsson moving up fulltime.

If we have enough money leftover to keep Stuart around, that's enough for me. Maybe another guy with a decent shot on the wing.

maltby isnt a free agent. i think he has another or two on his contract (he just signed one during this season)

I'd like to see Feds come home as well. Hell, his level of performance with the Caps is about what we need right now, and if he's willing to take a home town discount (a reasonable one, mind you) for a final chance at success with the Wings, by all means..

I'd much rather see him have a chance at redemption (and more so, to see him actually redeem himself with some good play) for all the good things he did do with the Wings, than to see eternal bad blood. You've gotta wonder if he misses the Wings.

Dunno if Feds will return; Holland came across as though he never wants him back, & Feds had a good run with the Caps...Me thinks he'll stick around in DC for another year, or two.

Holland said there wasn't a consensus on bringing him back at the deadline and thus their offer wasn't as high as it could have been. Though rumors out of Columbus had the pricetag at ridiculous levels for us. What the Caps sent over was nothing and I can't imagine whatever we offered was less.

All it would take now is a bit of money. Since Kenny did call McPhee and made a pitch you can be sure he'll call Fedorov's agent.

That's probably not a realistic expectation.

I just want to see ...Maltby gone

Signed three-year contract worth $2.65-million contract shortly before the start of the 2007 Stanley Cup playoffs. Maltby will earn $950,000 in 2007-08 and then $850,000 the next two seasons. The contract will count $833,000 against the salary cap.

Whoever the Wings sign this summer won't be a big name player. But hopefully the success this season will keep people from screaming their heads off when Holland misses out on giving mammoth contracts to second line players.

FEDS.

The town needs it, support is low and he can recandle the past.

I've only missed 3 home playoff games this year and I never remember seeing this many empty seats.

Can you ever remember this many lost jobs, or what about the lack of spending $ in the city?

Sorry, but Federov isn't going to create a stimulus package giving fans $200 to see a playoff game from the upper level.

I truly hope we work within our own organization this summer. I don't want Sundin. I don't want Fedorov. I don't want any of those guys. We need to see what these young guys can do up here. If it doesn't work out, we can figure something out at the deadline. But seriously, we should spend our money solely on guys we are trying to RE-sign.

That's stupid given the cap space we have. Obviously we need to be thinking about key guys like Zetterberg but if we have a shot at getting sundin why the hell wouldn't you take that? Why would you not want to improve? And NOT signing in the off season isn't exactly a Red Wings trait over the years.

We have a Championship game to think about. This should be the last thing in your mind.

You do realize that we are fans, not players, right? Talking about free agency is not going to distract the actual wings players.

Wings offseason?

Lock up Zetterberg, Lock up Franzen.

Resign Stuart. Resign Flip. (restricted)

Drake, Cheli, Hasek retire. Let Lilja walk if he asks for over a million per. Make a decision on Mac and Downey.

Helm, Quincey, Ericsson and Howard all move up to the big club full time. Leino gets his shot on the 2nd line. Perhaps resign Liv to compete with Howard or to split time in GR with Larsson. If we resign Lilja it might mean the end for Meech or Quincey.

I don't think we're going to see any UFA's come in. We're going to spend our disposable income on Hank and Franzen's extensions. I think the only possibility is Sundin for a year or a depth forward.

Prospal? Are you people serious?

While I'd like to not mess with success, it's hard to imagine Franzen scoring as many goals next year in the playoffs. I think Samuelsson has been generous this series as well. Timely scoring for sure.

But what we're all forgetting is other teams will be better next year, as well.

I like Stuart, but I'm not thrilled with giving him more than $3 million. He's good, but just makes some dumb decisions sometimes.

I think Sundin would be ideal for the second line. Put him on the same line with Franzen and Filppula/Hudler, you're talking about two potentially explosive lines.

Signing Sundin also allows you to move Cleary to the 3rd line and Sammy to the 4th.

This team really has only one more year of cap flexibility before Zetterberg gets his much deserved pay-raise. I'd like to see them go all-out.

Considering how much cap space the Wings will have going into next season, I disagree with this. A lot.
