TSN: Leafs hire Ron Wilson

Maple Leafs interim general manager Cliff Fletcher told reporters on Monday that the club had made an offer to a coach and were in negotiations with him. He did not give the name of the coach in question. Sources tell TSN former Sharks coach Ron Wilson is on his way to Toronto.

I didn't really need another reason to hate old "Hanta Yo" but this certainly gives me one. I wonder what the rest of Canada and Toronto fans will think of Ron Willson's on air comments about TSN and Canada always being "negative" and asking him the tough questions? I think Ronnie's a ****** and I hope he and the rest of the Maple Laughs enjoy another 25 years of futility and non-playoff hockey.

At least now he'll have an excuse for never making it to the scf.

Also in the midst of this is that Cliff Fletcher will stay on as GM for the upcoming season, as Brian Burke will likely end up as the permanent GM after next season, or sooner.

sorry for being disrespectful mack, youre usually awesome at providing us with info on this board...leafs decisions aside

thanks

:hysterical:

Edit: Ok, I'm better now. Thing is, I actually like the Leafs. They are the closest thing I have to a second team. But, sorry, if RW couldn't get it done with the talent he had in SJ, he is the absolute last person the Leafs should hire to attempt to lead the team out of the woods.

I think it's too soon for the Leafs to bring in a guy like Ron Wilson. They won't be making the playoffs for a few more seasons, which will put pressure on Leafs management to fire him sooner then they'd probably want to. Obviously Wilson is a guy they want to try and win a championship with.

I don't understand why they wouldn't want to go with a B list coach for a few seasons, then bring in someone better when the team is developing into something good. They should have stuck with Maurice for a few more years.

Edit: I'll believe the Burke stuff when it happens.

Leafs were my first team as a kid, so I hear you. I'm mostly impressed that the Toronto Maple Leafs Organization hired an actual NHL level coach instead of someone like, say, my 8-yr-old boy ro run the bench. They made a much better choice!

(Although my kid would have them skate super duper fast and shoot lasers at the other players and make fart noises and stuff.......I dunno, maybe they boy woulda been the way to go.)
