PaVel DaTsYuK fan13 0 Report post Posted June 8, 2008 (edited) Wow..... Unbelievable that he was able to make it back. ...I could swear that I remember a certain few users saying that he should man up and play.... PaVel DaTsYuK fan13 0 Report post Posted June 8, 2008 It seems like everyone has been really understanding about him not playing, and rightfully so, he was arguably our best player down the stretch. But, literally no one on this board has taken the antagonistic opinion. I, however, am somewhat upset that he is out for game 1 against Pittsburgh. I understood that we didnt want to take any risks with him against Dallas, as we clearly outmatched them and that doctors wouldnt even let him practice, but my god, this is the Stanley Cup Finals. I thought hockey was the sport where players gutted it out and played without the OK from the doctors? He says he feels fine, he is practicing, why can't you play in game one of a CHAMPIONSHIP round? Isn't this why you play the game? What every hockey player dreams of? Don't get me wrong, I love Franzen, I think he is an awesome player, but i kind of want him to be that player that refuses to be taken off the ice. Who knows, maybe it's just the European mind set. Does anyone else echo my thoughts, or am i totally off base? sorry wingsownnhl43, but I felt the need to post this.
SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted June 8, 2008 Some scary stuff indeed. And I know playoffs are all about trying to play through injuries and playing hurt etc. For the Red Wings specifically, you don't have to look further than Holmstrom or Flipper this playoff year. And you can say the same for plenty of other teams in the playoffs as well this year or any other year. Was it frustrating to see Franzen looking like he was skating and doing things without much difficulty while he was out of the lineup? Without question, and he was probably the most antsy or frustrated as well. I remember the few topics that were created questioning his "heart" or "desire" while he was out hurt. Things like this really piss me off especially when some of us absolutely have no clue what brain/head injuries are like and the severity of them (myself included), or some of us even having much idea of how it is to be injured at all physically. truebladearmy 33 Report post Posted June 8, 2008 Subdural hematoma isn't that serious so long as it's noticed quickly, and dealt with quickly. Mostly it's a matter of monitoring the patient and letting the blood drain naturally. To return in 6 games though is still pretty balsy, considering any injured area that first led to the intracranial bleed could be reruptured. During subdural heatoma the patient suffers a feeling of pressure, headaches, sometimes in more severe cases impared motor function, lack of balance, and occassional sensory problems like lack of vision, or false vision (Seeing things). Can be fatal, but for sports players with good medical care it's usually a very treatable issue.
