Emery on waivers

i'd take emery in a heartbeat, the talent is there, he just needs to get his head in gear. I'm sure LA, hell maybe even tampa would take him no way he gets to us..

Two years and $6.75 million for a guy who's played well for a total of maybe a season and a half in the NHL, and was bad last year, AND has had multiple incidents that show he has a poor work ethic and is a bad teammate.

No thanks.

The Wings are all about second chances, but they're smart enough to do it on bargain basement prices. With people who generally want to turn things around. I'm not sure Emery's there yet.

I see L.A. is trying to undo some of the damage Crawford did, since they put Cloutier on waivers.

NFM,

Would you pick him up for lots less? I'd be sorely tempted. You know he is a locker room cancer but you never know how much this ordeal has broken him. At one time Cleary was acting like this. Kid's got all the talent in the world.

I laughed when they hired him and laughed even harder when they signed Cloutier. His damage will take quite a while to undo.

That's a different story. I wouldn't touch him with a 10-foot pole for his current salary, but if the Wings could pick him up like they did Cleary, I'd absolutely give him a shot.

HaroldSnepsts just said it best:

Actually the fact that he's only played in Ottawa militates in his favor. I mean, he didn't choose who drafted him, he just played the cards he was dealt. Maybe he's a bad kid or maybe there is a lot of crap going on in the organization that we don't know about. He has yet to show that he is the cancer, but if he screws up in one more organization, he will have a tough time getting back.

I disagree with that. It's been cited several times how he was late to practice, had a poor work ethic, and seemed to think his job as the starting goaltender was a given.

Sure some of that may be a bad fit with the team, but no matter where you play, that kind of crap is unprofessional.

You're completely right Harold. My point is that I made some pretty stupid decisions when I was his age, and it took quite a knock to the head to get me to grow up. This was his first real knock. I hope, for his sake, that it wakes him up. You're not blackballed until you show yourself to be a chronic screw-up.

Agreed. Hopefully this will be a wakeup call, because I think he is a talented goaltender. And a helluva fighter. :P

Can't say I'm really surprised by this. While I rarely watched the Ottawa Senators this past season, when you have media reporting of locker room problems, well (Captain Obvious moment here :D)......

I'm pretty sure it wasn't all Emery, but it wouldn't be surprising if he was a major part of the problem.

He's still in his mid-20s and has plenty of years of being in athletic shape left in him. Hopefully, like others said, he can adjust his attitude to complement his goaltending as his tank is far from empty wherever he lands up.

Teams like Los Angeles could be desperate enough to pick up someone in his position, but given his attitude, I almost don't see it happening. I mean, it's a stretch to blame all of a teams problems on one player (unless that one player is Alexei Yashin, but that's another subject for another day), but Emery was a distraction in that lockeroom this season. Once he came back from his injury, expecting to be the #1 goalie without actually earning it (which he never did), his attitude pretty much started the Senators season derailment.

I think he might end up somewhere, but not right away. If a team like Los Angeles or maybe Tampa still has goaltending problems later this season, then he may get another shot.

Guest Four

I think the whole NHL community knew this was coming. I think he won't play in the NHL for a good portion of next season.
