SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted June 23, 2008 He did it because he was making the best team to beat the Red Wings. I highly doubt McGuire is intentionally writing articles and the like that are aimed to "get or beat the Red Wings".
Dabura 12,232 Report post Posted June 23, 2008 Sorry, but anyone who defends this has blinders on. Franzen, even before the postseason, was arguably the ultimate "monster" in the league -- and he was certainly affordable, so the "Pierre's just being realistic" argument doesn't hold much water here. The guy's a penis with glasses.
GoWings1905 2,694 Report post Posted June 23, 2008 McGuire gets paid to write/voice his opinion guys. Just because he "slighted" the Red Wings doesn't make him wrong, a moron, or completely oblivious to hockey. It's really not that big of a deal -- the Red Wings have received plenty of real awards and accolades recently anyways. I'm not the biggest fan of McGuire, but I respect his opinion, and that's what he provided in the article. Not everything in the NHL has to revolve around the Red Wings. Dabura 12,232 Report post Posted June 23, 2008 I, for one, don't respect his opinion. And not because he doesn't verbally blow the Wings, but because he tends to come off as a fool. (There's a reason why Milbury calls him out at one point or another in practically every broadcast they do together.) That said, often times his foolishness involves the Wings (e.g., the glaring absence of a guy like Franzen on this ttly heart-tastic roster, his comments about the Wings' draft success owing more to pure dumb luck than anything else). Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted June 23, 2008 The fact that the list includes only one European should give away the bias pretty quickly.

Wings_Fan_In_Exile 3 Report post Posted June 23, 2008 Pierre McGuire has always annoyed me. While he does seem knowledgeable, I do take everything he says with a really big grain of salt. I mean his whole 1 year of NHL coaching experience landed him a losing record of 23-37-7. Not exactly HOF numbers, haha. He's entitled to his opinion, and I'm entitled to mock it

Not exactly a star-studded cast of characters.

Not exactly a star-studded cast of characters. Agreed. I'm just saying he is no Scottie Bowman. But Zarley Zalapski is a pretty badass name! I actually remember him. I just prefer Bob McKenzie as an analyst.
bringback91 2 Report post Posted June 24, 2008 While a McGuire is a complete d-bag with an obvious bias against the Wings, I think some are missing the point of his "line-up" here. There not supposed to be the best scorers, most points, or even the biggest impact on the games. To me it seems to be a list of tough, hard nosed guys who are great team guys and are huge to their teams reguardless of what shows up on the scoresheet. This should be apparent by the absence of the Cros off a list on TSN. Sure guys like Franzen, Cleary, Kronner, Dats (this year especially), Z, and Ozzie before or after the playoffs could've been added, or even mentioned as "on the bubble" but really what did you expect?
