Yzerfan1999 81 Report post Posted July 2, 2008 (edited) Where does that leave the Wings with contract extensions for Zetterberg and Filpulla? According to nhlnumbers our cap hit before signing Hossa is 45.273, adding his contract at 7.4 brings us up close to 53 million, 3 million under the cap, right? Don't tell me Holland is going to wait till next summer to try and keep Zetterberg...that sounds foolish, doesn't it? So whats the deal? edit sp Edited July 2, 2008 by Yzerfan1999
Opie 308 Report post Posted July 2, 2008 He can sign Hank today or tomorrow or 3 months from now his contract doesn't hit the books until next season. Therefore the only potential snag would be tagging room, however seeing as Hossa's deal is one year that comes off of the books and is a non factor!
Guest Shoreline Report post Posted July 2, 2008 (edited) I don't see what Zetterberg and has to do with this year's cap. He's already covered. It goes like this: either they sign an extension with him this summer or at the end of next season. Filppula still needs a contract but we'll see first what his demands are. NeverForgetMac25 483 Report post Posted July 2, 2008 Actually, the Cap is $56.7 million and signing Hossa now leaves the Wings $4.027 million in Cap room.
Probert 5 For Fighting 0 Report post Posted July 2, 2008 Zetterberg and Franzen are fine. They're signed through next year. Hossa is on for just this season, so he has nothing to do with the '10 cap.

There's just enough space to get Flip signed and leave some room for the trade deadline too. Zetterberg's extension won't kick in til next year, and the cap should be up another few million by then. In fact if it goes up as much as it did this year, then there may be room for Zetterberg AND Hossa.
Hank 0 Report post Posted July 2, 2008 I know some might still hate the thought, but I'd love it if Kenny still found a way to get Bertuzzi on this roster: Bertuzzi-Datsyuk-Hossa Franzen-Zetterberg-Homer Hudler-Filpulla-Cleary Malbty/Sammy-Helm-Drapes Lots of toughness and scoring. I see Flip getting a 3 year deal for all but about 1.5 of the remaining cap room. That way Holland has his cushion and Flip can get 2 m this year 3 the year after and potentially 3.5 or 4 after that and the hit would remain under 3 mil. Yzerfan1999 81 Report post Posted July 2, 2008 Ohh okay, so if we extend Zetter, the contract has no implications on the cap until next season? And I suppose we have room for Flip under the cap still. I don't see him making more then 3. That makes this a whole lot clearer, now I can enjoy this signing with all the test of youse. Thanks. With the skill taken care of, sure can use a body to rough up some goons. I don't think Mac is a good choice for that, and sure as hell not Lilja. If only Drake were to rejoin. Probert 5 For Fighting 0 Report post Posted July 2, 2008 Since we only have about 4 mil in cap space now, if some Lowe-like crazy person offers Flip 5 mil+, he's gone.
Opie 308 Report post Posted July 2, 2008 Since we only have about 4 mil in cap space now, if some Lowe-like crazy person offers Flip 5 mil+, he's gone. If he accepts, he has said publicly (take it for what it is worth) he wants to stay. So Lowe could offer him 5 mil and he could say thanks but no thanks I would rather win another cup and enjoy another parade!!!

Canadian_Yzerman_Fan 7 Report post Posted July 2, 2008 I was expecting something like.... Now that Hossa is a wing, all we have to do is get Filpulla an extension and sign a drake replacement with Hossa's 7.4M the wings only have about 2.5M left under the cap, so i would expect coupling that with our surplus of Dmen, a trade may go down
StevieY9802 6 Report post Posted July 2, 2008 Filppula is really the only guy that it could hurt if he signs an offer sheet or thinks he's worth more. Ericsson and Howard still need to be signed but will be cheap and will probably be in the minors so it won't hurt them. Why would he want to leave other than big money. Val would be centering two of the hottest players in the playoffs last year.

Glubki 17 Report post Posted July 2, 2008 4 million left Flip = 2M Chelios = 750,000 Mac = 650,00 That would leave about $600,000 Flip is now a prime candidate for an offer sheet.....

Casey 145 Report post Posted July 2, 2008 My roster, assuming Drake retires, Cheli, Downey and DMac return, no other changes. Zetterberg-Datsyuk-Homer Hossa-Franzen-Cleary Hudler-Filppula-Helm Samuelsson-Draper-Maltby/Abdelkader/Kopecky Lids-Rafalski Stuart-Kronwall Lilja-Lebda Chelios The Wizard Conklin/Howard Name me a team that lineup couldn't beat. Work in DMac and Downey as needed, cycle in Ericsson and the other GRers as available.

Yeah if it happens it sucks but I'll take draft picks. They are very helpful in the post-lockout world. And he would need to get 3.5+ I would think for the Wings not be able to match it so they would get a decent amount of picks. Anyone have the breakdown for what salaries get how many picks?
