Pressure now to get Filppula signed

Rate this topic

Now that Stuart is locked up, our defense is ridiculus.

Now that Hossa is here for a year, our wingers are set.

All thats left to do is sign Val Filpulla to center a dominant 2nd line.

Please oh wise and powerful Ken Holland, get it done before the offer sheets come piling in.

Here is what I posted in the Hossa thread:

OK - I was just reading that link to the Pens Board and they mentioned about Flip being a RFA - Now would the Pens Organization be so hell bent that Hossa signed with us to offer Flip a contract?

Just curious... As it would make for some interesting events...

Hasn't Filppula told everyone he wanted to stay, so even if he gets a 5million contract he can still re-sign with wings in a 2.5-3million?

Also how do we know that Flip hasn't instructed his agent to not entertain any offer outside of the wings, with the fact that it is now after July 1 and we haven't heard a thing about an offer sheet, maybe when teams call his agent says nope he is all set where he is.

Holland while trying to win now always has an eye on the future he wouldn't let this kid dangle without a plan, not saying he may not be gone, but I bet it would be in Holland's plan!

I, too, am kind of scared. I don't think he'd SIGN an offer sheet, but the Red Wings are 3.7M away from the cap by my count. And that's without Chelios, Downey, McCarty, and Flip (all of whom Holland has said will work themselves out).

I was thinking Flip was in the 2.5 - 2.8 range.

It's a little bit troubling.

He can if he chooses, that's the thing. While it's rare for a player to turn down the big cash, some will. Methinks Fil is one.

Who cares about Flip if you have a chance to sign Hossa after this year, especially if Flip wants 5 million. Flip will never make it past the second line nor score more than 50 points.

Please, please don't start with this Flip > Hossa.

Yeah, I mean, I like Flip and all and think he's a descent player but I don't see him getting tremendously better than he is. He just doesn't seem to have the same tenacity that big stars have. I don't think he's worth more than 2-2.5 mil so if it's going to take more than that, then hey, he got a Cup, helped along the way and was just a good guy to have around, but best of luck moving on...

 Who says he wants 5 million?

He'll re-sign.

I could see Flip getting 2.25 million this season and then a gradual increase from there - take a pay cut this year and then pad the 2nd and 3rd year a little more to even it out for him and us - so the remaining players can be signed... If you compare a realistic signing like Stillman (and factor in his contributions with points) and the money he is making - compare that to what Flip should receive (adjusted down of course)...

Yet when Avery is getting 3.8 million a year - there are issues...
