Jesus H Christ, when will the nostalgia ruled mindset finally die here? Was Shanny the "Dallas Drake" from 2003 on? I don't seem to recall any big playoff success there nor is there any in NY where he was a big no show this post season. Was Dallas Drake the reason we won a Cup?

Shanny needed to get out of the way so the Kids could find their own way and you can sure said they did this year! No looking back people. There is this thing called the FUTURE that can sometimes be brighter.

Short answer. No.

Long answer. Nooooooooooooooooo. There's no cap space for him, there's no roster spot for him, and why exactly would Shanny even be needed in Detroit.

I like the guy, but there's no reason to bring him back.

No lie. I like the guy as well, but he's won three Cups already, there is nothing else for him to prove in terms of winning championships. He even said himself that he was part of the Wings past a few seasons ago, and not part of the future. I know people might come back with the few guys trying to win a 5th Cup, there's still stuff to prove....well there's probably going to be an underlying motivation to get Hossa his first Cup when it might only be Hossa's only season with Detroit. Again I like the guy, but it's been time to move on from him on the Red Wings a long time ago.

Shanny only left the Wings because HE lost faith in OUR ability to bring home another Stanley.....before he retired....he figured the Wings just weren't gonna get it together before he stopped playing. No guy in his right mind is gonna leave a team he's played with for a decade + won 3 cups with if he BELIEVE's that team is gonna win another cup soon.

He went to NY because he saw a cup potiential winning team....heck, he must talk alot with Barry M. anyway, he helped bring in the big guns over there (Dury, Gomez) and of course his buddy Avery. Things didn't work out the way he expected and NY hasn't been a good team at all.

He sunk over 13mil into a condo on Park Avenue so I highly doubt he's gonna run back to Detroit....he's waiting on a handout from NY to keep him. And besides Detroit can't compete with NY in the nightlife!

With all that said there is nowhere on our present team for him....the Shanny of old was my faviorte player but this new guy I don't recoginze....so I'll just stick with the good memories of him instead!

...yeah, Shanahan left for more money, Fedorov left for the same money. Who's the greedy one? Anyhow, if we are looking for a mid-level UFA to replace Drake, even though I don't we have the roster room for him, but Marty Lapointe should be the replacement for Drake. Now, don't tell me I am getting nostalgic, I am not, but looking over the leftover UFA's and comparing the ones that may cost too much (er... I mean want too much) and those that may only cost between 1-2 million. Lapointe is a leader, he would probably equal Drake's offensive output (prolly get more points) and he would scrap with anyone to protect his teammates plus he's only won 2 Cups, he's gotta be hungry!

...seriously though, if they are gonna give Waste McCarty a contract then there is no room for anymore forwards, but truely they should give Lapointe a call and see what he wants or what he'll take...

...if you do recall the ORIGINAL grind line was Maltby Draper and Lapointe, then Kocur stepped in, THEN McCarty stepped in, so if you want REAL nostalgia, get Marty back here...

...besides, Lapointe is heaps better than McCarty...

Thank you. I might add, this also applies to Feds, Bert, Lapointe and a host of other glitterati

yeah, lets stop being nostalgic, lets not bring back old players, but lets give McFarty a contract cause he;s is just so unfortunate, his story is so sad and he is so loved for his history with the team. Yeah, he'w worth signing again, lets not get nostalgic, but McCarty pretty much sucked 11 years ago and he sucks even worse now! I'd resign Ferard Gallant for nostalgia before I offered coke-head a contract...

...objection, hearsay, sustained...

...sorry, before I offered the suspected abuser a contract. Anyone know is Probert can still skate? Hell, lets give him a 2 way contract!

If McCarty sucked so bad this season, why did he play most of this playoffs given the roster as it was laid out? Coaches must have thought otherwise...

To put people in the empty seats which had been there all season.

Why do people think that Hollands motive in replacing Drake was to add an old dog to the roster? When Holland said he wanted to replace Drake, he was speaking to those players who can motivate a group with their presence alone.

The fact that we just signed a superstar who wants the cup so bad he turned away some 70 million dollars to sign with us gives Detroit its motivating factor.

Coaches don't control who gets put in the seats or not.

And playoff games were going to be sold out at JLA this past season regardless of McCarty's status/playing time.
