Majsheppard 203 Report post Posted July 4, 2008 (edited) That the trade deadline is pretty much going to be boring for us? Or is it????? I hear he is going to go after Ovechkin.... If anyone could do it... Serrious though, you think he will try to add anyone at the deadline. I say no way. btw all you facebook users, search for the new group "Holland Worshippers" Holland is a god. Edited July 4, 2008 by Majsheppard

Hockeytown Red Wings 245 Report post Posted July 4, 2008 No. Brad Stuart is nice and all, but not that exciting. Todd Bertuzzi was terrible. Before them, I cant even remembered trade deadline acquisitions. Robert Lang? A god, but he was lazy and he sucked. Schneider? He left us for Anaheim, good timing, LOL. Being excited at the trade deadline is overrated.
Majsheppard 203 Report post Posted July 4, 2008 Just a question about what the trade deadline holds.
rage 24 Report post Posted July 4, 2008 I doubt much unless there is some crazy injuries, which could happen. Unless there is a chemistry issue or something..... Roll with the flow!

RedStormRising 7 Report post Posted July 4, 2008 Who knows? Some guys may go down injured, we may not be as good as we should be, etc. We might need to add someone at the deadline but lets play a few games first... Silly to be talking about it now.

You haven't lived! Was Cheli before the deadline? I thought he was a deadline acquisition that year. And btw, Bill Ranford was ******* amazing for about a game and a half after Ozzie went out. Then he fell apart like Tim Cheveldae. Wendell Clark was a great player, but no one should ever remember him as a Wing. And Ulf Samuelsson.....god I hate him. Lidstromrules16 7 Report post Posted July 4, 2008 IMO, being dissapointed at the trade deadline is a VERY GOOD problem.
Seraph 240 Report post Posted July 4, 2008 Yeah. We don't seem to be a quick fix kind of team anyway. We'll work stuff out in our own system. We definitely know we have the tools to get it done.
Hockeytown Red Wings 245 Report post Posted July 4, 2008 IMO, being dissapointed at the trade deadline is a VERY GOOD problem. Considering the hysteria here last season, indeed it is.
rage 24 Report post Posted July 4, 2008 IMO, being dissapointed at the trade deadline is a VERY GOOD problem. Good point. A lot of us were disappointed at the trade deadline this year with only getting Stuart, but it sure of hell worked didn't it?!?!
Lidstromrules16 7 Report post Posted July 4, 2008 Good point. A lot of us were disappointed at the trade deadline this year with only getting Stuart, but it sure of hell worked didn't it?!?! And it took a little while for Stuart to adjust. The Wings have Hossa for a full season before the playoffs, he should be well adjusted by then, and I dont see a need in any acquisitions. octopusonice 0 Report post Posted July 4, 2008 You never know what you're going to need at that time. Probably won't be earth-shattering, might make a depth move.

NeverForgetMac25 483 Report post Posted July 4, 2008 Wow....its not as if Brad Stuart is chopped liver. He may not be a Marian Hossa, but its not as though he was Cory Cross.
puckbags 863 Report post Posted July 4, 2008 Let me get this straight, we have the rest of the off season, training camp, pre-season, and 50 regular season games and we are talking about next years trade deadline. Thats like me wondering at 29 if I'm going to need Viagra when I'm 67 years old. I'm still celebrating the Stanley Cup victory and half ass paying attention to the side show that this free agency period has been so far. The trade deadline is so far from relevant right now it's not even funny.

I heard a rumor that because of the govt paying your medical insurance, that most men over 30 take viagra on a daily basis... you know cold weather is like cold water...then there is the dreaded shrinkage thing... egroen 384 Report post Posted July 4, 2008 I ranted a bit about saving such an unbelievably high amount until the trade deadline as we did last year. Holland made the right call without over paying for anyone... but it's not like Ovechkin was going to be available for all the cap space we were saving. I had preferred to see most of that cap space filled at the beginning of the year on free agents that we have for the full year and do not have to trade away prospects and picks for. Well, I got even more than I wished for so I am more than happy to be bored at the trade deadline
Jedi 1,865 Report post Posted July 4, 2008 Keeping as much room with the cap as he did helped us out a bit this year though. Any bonuses that were included in the contracts would have been applied to last season's payroll, so we should have zero carryover salary wise from last year to this. Yeah, an extra free agent might have been nice in the beginning of the year, but we obviously did alright in the end last year. No harm, no foul. As far as this year, if we make it to the deadline with no need for trades, that's what I refer to as a "high quality problem."
Cern 0 Report post Posted July 4, 2008 I think Kenny getting Hossa was kind of like a parent spoiling a kid (the fans) "Okay, just this once, but this is your free agency AND your trade deadline present, okay?"
